Does it? In what language? Scots Gaelic?

I'm confused. Why the the people of Orkney (I have to presume that 'polis' = citizenry - 10/10 for introducing some Greek, btw) arrest someone? Was it a citizen's arrest? And why would those same people (the 'folk' must also = citizenry) then feel angered at their own actions. Is there some kind of mass-schizophrenia in the Orkney's?

Where's Junction 9 when you need him. He's done loads of favours sorting out this kind of thing for Board members in the past. I'm sure, if you pm him, baj, he'll fit you into his busy schedule.

Is it because they are all grocers? Or should that be grocer's? Or grocers'?

What are the chances of this happening in Southampton?

This is BC gone mad -
I guess, if you have checked out Sanate House Library, that you're at one of the London colleges. Well, having done a 2 second search of Copac, I've found that the item, although rare, can be found at Aberdeen, Birmingham, British Library, Cambridge and UCL. Are you at UCL or does you college have reciprocal arrangements with them? If nothing else, you should be able to get it on ILL within a few days. Again, this should costs nothing and you get to read the book over a longer period.
-
Oh, and all this costs nothing apart from the tube fare to get to the library. If you walk, it costs absolutely nothing.

FFS, students of today. I see your location is London. Get over to St Pancras, go to the British Library, get a card, order your book, sit in the reading room and read it. Talk about spoon-feeding.... Here's the record, fyi. http://catalogue.bl.uk/F/?func=full-set-set&set_number=045540&set_entry=000001&format=999

This is exactly the attitude we need to get away from really. This place isn't the be all and end all, ffs. Chill out - don't take the interwebs so seriously. Yeah, NS, stop being a boring old fuddy duddy stick in the mud.

The 'Atticus Finch viewing the mainboard' thread

The whole thing does seem incredibly vindictive. So speaks the voice of reason. -
I know that this is a risky question

Who is Deppo of which you speak? -
Breaking news, then.

He's a well known plagiarist. Mind you, I'd prefer a plagiarist to a racialist any day.

Strangely enough, I may be in the market for some new flooring. Our old stuff is all chipped. I checked out the invent forum link and it seemed there was nothing doing. Looking into flooring generally, I keep getting all Tangled up with the different options. Any advice, J9?

Human behaviour explained by Evolution....

I found this one interesting - one for all the thickos on here: "2. Liberals are more intelligent than conservatives A study by Dr Kanazawa, published in Social Science Quarterly in March, based on the same data showed that young adults who identified themselves as "very liberal" had an average IQ of 106 while those who identified themselves as "very conservative" had an average IQ of 95. Humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends. Being liberal and caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers is evolutionarily novel. So more intelligent children may be more likely to grow up to be liberals. " -
Listening to Today this morning, apparently, the Panorama Team received the firm evidence about five weeks ago. They then presented the info to FIFA about three weeks ago - at the same time, more-or-less and the Times scoop. FIFA acted on the Times revelations but refused to respond to Panorama (presumably because they hadn't yet broadcast their programme. Problem is that Panorama are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they had broadcast the programme after England had lost the bid, then it would all look like sour grapes. Personally, my view is along the same lines as Chez's. Although these bribes took place in the 90s, the corrupt tossers who took those bribes are still in post and making decisions that will have a profound impact on the structure and direction of world football. Cameron et al will be cosying up to these individuals and, even if they don't participate in bribery (which I'm sure they wouldn't) they are lending it tacit support and are soiled by association. I am pleased to see British reporters at the forefront of exposing this kind of thing. We may have all suspected this to be the case, but now we have convincing evidence. The problem lies, of course, in the structure of FIFA - a bunch of unaccountable blokes with total hegemony over a very lucrative sport. They wield substantial power and, without accountability, are liable to corruption. Investigative journalism is the only form of accountability there is in this situation. Thankfully, we have a free press who can make these journalistic decisions without interference from Government. As Chez says, if we lose the bid, so be it. Give it to Russia - they know all about corruption......

I can't believe I've only just stumbled across the thread. It's absolutely hilarious. My sides have been splitting. My wife asked me what I was laughing at and even she found it rib tickling. But, I think she's taken the underlying message on board as she said she'd get the train to work from now on. She admits herself that putting on make up while driving at 50 in the fast lane on the motorway while chatting about shopping on her mobile phone was a little dangerous. Women, eh? Special mention goes to Dune for his brilliant observations and fantastically funny videos. Please, Dune, stop, or I'll be crying with laughter.

Yeah, those nasty Muslims with their lack of imagination. They're as bad as the Spanish who insist on calling their kids Jesus. For that alone they should bugger off back to - oh, they're nearly all British, so that'd be Britain then. Still, we're getting in the way of a good ol' rabble raising scare story here with our pesky correct interpretation of statistics.
