  1. This really is a fantastic thread - well done to the original poster. In fact, I would go as far as saying this is probably one of the best threads I've seen on SWF - it's what football forums should be all about. That said, to be honest, I keep forgetting the rules. Every time I read the rules as originally set out, by the time I come to reply, I seem to have forgotten them. When you're as old as me, I'm afraid the memory starts to fail. When I was a lad, our heroes were the likes of Tom Parker (who could give that whippersnapper Shaw a run for his money), George Kay (who got in the England squad and would show Lallana a thing or two), and Ted Drake (who we lost to Woolwich Arsenal, but had his best times with us and would have competed well for a place against Lambert). As I say, though, I keep forgetting the rules so have probably got this all wrong.
  2. For those of you complaining about cyclists not staying in cycle lanes, take a look at some of these gems: http://blog.cycleinjury.co.uk/2011/12/photos-25-of-best-crap-cycle-lanes.html
  3. You're nuts. Imagine the greasy nastiness when you tried to pick up a piece of paper. Mitchell was right about that. It has to be armpit dispensing sun cream every time.
  4. Why does it bother you so much? And, by the way, suggesting that Pap is an anti-Semite is ridiculous and as offensive as anything he has posted. You're the one who has given credence to his posts by continually going on about them. I've always thought you were a good poster Verbal and an all-round good egg but, to be honest, your stance on this over the last couple of weeks has been just as foolish as Pap's conspiracy theories. And you've opened the doors to mindless goons attempting to bully Pap, not that he'll be that bothered about that, but it does allow the idiots of SWF to feel like they have legitimate reason to round upon someone.
  5. Don't forget us oldies. We miss him as well.
  6. Interesting read, Deano. Can't see any mention of that perennial favourite, fishfingers, either in or not in a sandwich.
  7. So, at best you wrote an undergrad dissertation on the subject which got bound and plonked in a cupboard somewhere. These 'academic' articles you write are probably little more than journalism that you post on a blog somewhere. There is nothing wrong with this (and writing poetry for that matter, don't be embarrassed), but don't try to represent it for something it is not. As you see, you'll get found out. Now, I do publish in academic journals (proper ones) and if there was a serious debate on the subject I research, I would have no hesitation in referencing myself and posting the reference on this website. My name and credentials are in the public domain and I am more than happy to disseminate my research. If you do write on politics (and the Troubles in NI in particular) I don't see why you are being coy - what is the point of writing on this stuff if you don't want people reading about it. So what if people find out your real name - what are they likely to do with that fascinating piece of information? Until then, let's just assume you know no more on this topic than Pap (who seems to have no problem with people knowing who he is).
  8. Oh, and I almost never hear the 'excuse' from my students that their computer is broken!
  9. I work in a university and can usually access these things. Post the reference and I'll track it down, even if it requires an inter-library loan.
  10. Lost, but not forgotten, eh? xx
  11. That was, indeed, pretty impressive. Oh, and I liked the music!
  12. Hooray, I'm not on Tokyo's hate list. I'll rest easy tonight.
  13. I hope you didn't form that opinion about me when I recently asked for info on Japan. I think I was almost gushing in my obsequious thanks for the info you and other provided.
  14. Thanks guys, lots of good advice there. I knew I could count on you to come up with the goods. I picked up a copy of the Lonely Planet yesterday but it's always useful to get a biot of firsthand experience. We'll be there without the kids, so might give Disney Sea a miss. I was surprised to see Hiroshima recommended - would never have occurred to me. Kyoto, on the other hand, seemed obvious, but I may end up going there seperately anyway as my university is in the process of setting up a research partnership with Kyoto University. Anyway, thanks for your friendly advice.
  15. That'd be great. I don't know anyone on this site who isn't also a cheapskate so I may be forced to stump up a fiver to get hold of your info, Tokyo. But, what about the octopus porn? Eh, eh?
  16. Myself and Mrs BS are taking a short trips to Japan at the end of May. So, anyone been there? Any tips and advice? We'll have a few days in Tokyo and are planning a trip to Mount Fuji. I think our main problem is that Tokyo is such a huge place that we're feeling a bit overwhelmed. Anyway, it seems that places to go are the Fishmarket and Imperial palace/gardens. All very touristy. What else? Tokes, over to you.
  17. I think a poster by the name of Junction9 does this sort of thing. I've heard he does good rates for other Saints supporters and does a particularly good job of the drawers.
  18. Whoops. If you are going to comment on the standards of English teaching in schools......
  19. Perhaps it's your kids that are 'terminally stupid'.
  20. And this is the reason why there are so many problems in defence procurement. Chapel and Moonraker both make their points well and, probably, based on good personal knowledge. The problem is, these arguments are at odds with each other. The programme directors are faced with a plethora of stakeholders, each with their own, well informed opinions about what is required, what the future is likely to be and so forth. These stakeholders are politically very powerful and influential. So, how is the programme director to balance the opposing views? You can't have everything or else you'll end up with Homer Simpson's car which he designed for his long-lost brother - a mish-mash compromise that doesn't satisfy anyone. So, you need to come up with something, all within an (admittedly, very large) budget. And, as any project manager knows, making changes half-way through the project causes no end of problems. And so, we have poor defence procurement.
  21. Top draw sleuthing, I have to say. I think we should rename you the SWF Sherlock in residence. From now on, Dull-Sherlock-Days, please make it your life's mission to root out any alter egos of Deppo.
  22. You do know, of course, that we have our very own plumber/handyman expert on the forum going by the moniker of Junction9. I'm told he offers exceptionally good rates for fellow Saints fans.
  23. I see Sherlock is on the case.
  24. Oh, it isn't me in the picture. I spent most of the day complaining about the road closures. But I do do a lot for charity which I don't talk about.
