  1. I don't wish Bournemouth ill, but I don't feel sympathy for them either - I want to see us win well.
  2. Agree we look ponderous when Hoj and Vestergard are in the team...both slow and default mode is step back and sideways or backwards pass...slow down rather than speed up...consequence is we never get the speed or momentum to exploit gaps in defence because they have time to get men behind the ball and regroup. Contrast that with Walker-Peters who was brilliant today, stepping up into play, beating his man, creating space for others by running forward and drawing defenders...Redmond is good at this, Armstrong too...Ings always a handful...Djenepo (what happened to him?) another forward-looking player. Think you're a little harsh about Adams tonight. He was better than Obafemi. Very unlucky to have two goal-bound shots blocked either of which would have made him the match-winner and hero instead of the villain he's been cast as. He is woefully short of confidence still, despite the great goal against City...but there is something about him that makes me think he will find his scoring boots for us. He is a unit and can create chances for others. He looks to me like he'd be better losing a few pounds and swapping a bit of strength for speed.
  3. Very good performance once we'd got into our stride. A gulf in class between the sides I felt the longer the game went on. Lots of good performances all over the pitch. Looked fit. Obafemi did well as a creator. Ings great, Redmond looks sharp. Armstrong a real asset. Great support play and neat triangles...won't get away with that against 'bruiser' teams though. Valery concedes the ball too much for a full back. McCarthy distrinution still something to work on but these are minor niggles in a very encouraging performance. Let's hope it carries on to Arsenal next week...
  4. Yes, but it's come at a cost - how many kitchen injuries, torn ligaments from kickabouts with the kids and broken skulls from fights with the WAGs?
  5. Typical Saints - only we could find a Chinese investor with no money!
  6. I hope you're right...but you know our team...if we don't win one or more of the next two games we could be entering May needing two wins out of the last three games...don't see us getting anything from Man City, Everton or Man Utd...
  7. I have never been so angry in my life as that first half - VAR red card for Djenepo after the Chelsea one not given? - checks the monitor for that but not the penalty? Everything went against us today. Valery a weak link defending and will be targeted by other teams if he plays. Now no Djenepo for the next how many games? Probably no Armstrong. If ever Smallbone would have had the chance to shine this was it. So predictable we'd concede a stupid defensive error after a terrific defensive effort for so long. Long played well whoever on here said he was a donkey - sure we all know he has no touch or finish but he put so much effort in and kept two men at the back occupied. That was so not the result we needed. Now we are in real danger of getting sucked back in. Norwich a must win...with them desperate for a win and targeting us for three points too.
  8. So after learning from West ham, what would you do if you were Steve Bruce...give us the ball, bully us on 50/50 challenges, hit us on the break and thump high balls into our area up to anybody and wait for us to fail to clear it... Hopefully we will have Djenepo back and we can create chances going forward. The Ings / Long chasing long balls down trick has been found out...we need options in and around the box other than Ings. This is the game for Che Adams to start and score a brace.
  9. What is wrong with Djenepo....where was he...? We can't lose him, Ings and Redmond and expect to perform...lose any creativity and ability to play quickly on the floor through defences. Boufal should be able to step up and prove himself in their absences but was at his worst today...over-playing and not working back hard enough to win the ball when we're out of possession. I'm done with the Boufal experiment now...move him on...let's get a harder-working fast creative midfielder instead of him. Hoj a big heart but lacks pace. JWP huge - needs the midfield and captaincy in a revitalised team. Let's get two more wins asap please...
  10. Am worried about this. No Boufal or Redmond so creativity with the ball on the ground severely restricted - have liked Djenpo but he looked terrible against Burnley - Mings is back for them - KWP out already!! (need some pace to stick with Grealish)...Valery hasn't played since goodness knows when. Vestergard a proven liability. Bednarek wouldn't have been left out if there wasn't a niggle or something with him - is he fully fit? Tons of away supporters filling their quota for Cup Final tickets...our complete inability to win at home. We need a fast start and Grealish to be holding back / locked in cotton wool / have a dousie. I would definitely play Che Adams for this one and abandon our play some more direct long balls up the park for him to hold up and harry.
  11. Lost this game before kick-off with Redmond out. He is a major loss. You beat Burnley by keeping the ball on the ground and running it past them to create openings. No Redmond then no Boufal - couldn't have been worse for us. Then we lost it for sure in the first minute with that ridiculous giveaway goal - why was Ings guarding the near post and not KWP? Vestergard before Bednarek? Can only think Bednarek wasn't fully fit. Adams should have been on before Obafemi - some muscle and hold-up skills with the ball on the ground. Every time we hoofed it up a Burnley head got to it first - that was very predictable Ralph. Weather didn't help. Ref didn't help. And what is it with SMS? Need to lift the curse somehow. Only positives from this...KWP was okay and showed some confident touches. Stephens was good. Great goal from Ings. Let's just get the 9 points we need quickly. Please.
  12. Important game this - could define the direction we look for the rest of the season, up or down - unfortunately the bad weather forecast works in Burnley's 'non-footballing' favour. Predicting we turn them over 3-0 in a reverse of the first game of the season.
  13. If, just what if, this is a sincere message of unanimous support for Ralph from the board...and a message to Gao saying - 'the supporters know we back him, the supporters back him...if he goes it's for other reasons...like the club can't back up the rhetoric of ambition with actual funds or action?
  14. Very frustrating. Only got the livestream working in time to see Moura score - then that dive. Sooooo predictable. JWP loss is potentially bigger than this game. Spurs have been so lucky twice in a row at home...should have lost both games by a margin, instead win. Onwards. Burnley game more important. Let's get the points we need to be safe.
  15. What game were you watching? We were no huffing and puffing. I have several Liverpool mates who - correctly IMH) - said we and Wolves have been their toughest games so far this season. The scoreline was a travesty - we outshot them and had double the number of corners. There are some TWA-S on here who can't see past the result if we lose.
  16. Why no thread on this? As commentator said; scoreline did not reflect the story of the game. So proud of our team. Liverpool have a magic spell cast in their favour this season. Onwards.
  17. Very interesting - smart guy - he can start as Director of Football with us when he's ready.
  18. Well I liked Yoshida. Even though there was a mistake in him he was a model professional, worked his socks off, great ethic, good servant to the community and representative of the club...and he was a solid CB with a goal threat for headers too. Captain of his country for 100 caps. Class act. The kind of player we need more of not less of. Best of luck Yoshi and thank you.
  19. This is where the Liverpool run ends. Right here. Liverpool 0 - Saints 1.
  20. This. It's not too difficult to understand if you look at it from Cedric's POV. He put in 4 or 5 good years with us, was out of favour with Ralph in the past, can see the Gao set-up (i.e. little or no future investment) and understandably wants to move on. Once he has - in the correct gentlemanly way as he probably did - let the club know he does not intend to sign a new contract, then the decision is made for the club. Then it's a case of finding an outlet before the clock runs out...A loan deal with Arsenal (Spanish/Portuguse linkage with Arteta) and an option for a four year contract there is a step up for him (let's be honest) and a no brainer. For the club the decision is....keep him and try to get a player who wants out to run his heart out for us / not play injured / do an Ozil...or try to salvage something from the situation. Agree that the £5M fee nonsense is an insult to our intelligence though. Greater transparency required. There should be a supporters representative around the boardroom table for just such occasions as this.
  21. Totally agree 786. When is the club going to wake up to this and change it?
  22. Fantastic performance and fantastic result. Hope the Redmond critics will finally zip it - he and Armstrong outstanding tonight and not just because they scored corking goals. All round team energy level and closing down was brilliant though - we were winning all the 50-50 balls in the first half and should have been two or three up at half-time. Thought we might have a different second half but so happy we continued in the same vein. I believe we can beat Liverpool.
  23. Is Bednarek out? That is a real loss. We get exposed as it is against powerful quick strikers running at us...Traore Saturday, Zaha tomorrow...we lack speed at the back and Bednarek has got used to covering for that. Would take a draw but think we're capable off more. Will be interesting to see what kind of a reaction Ralph can get out of the team after such a disappointing second half against Wolves.
  24. How it goes sometimes. If we'd got the draw we deserved the whole tenor on here would have been different. Just watched Newcastle absolutely steal a win against Chelsea...only one team looked like winning that for 93+ minutes. Newcastle defended heroically but all the creation was Chelsea...outshot Newcastle 3 to 1 and 70% possession...lost to a 'punt it in there' hail Mary. Just how it goes sometimes.
  25. Shouldn't over-react...that game could easily have gone either way. So close to 3-0 up and game over...their first goal turned the game. Is it only me that thought Bednarak missed the early tackle on Traore that would have stopped that? Anyway at 2-0 up texted my Wolves-supporter mate who had given up on his team saying they were in such poor form...knowing Saints I said it's not over...was strangely calm as the predictable comeback unfolded. Bottom line is it was an even game against a strong team. Redmond inches away from a spectacular goal that would have put us ahead. Fine margins. Anyone else think we are giving away teams a big advantage having their supporters behind our goal...especially when they attack that end in the second half?
