Well I liked Yoshida. Even though there was a mistake in him he was a model professional, worked his socks off, great ethic, good servant to the community and representative of the club...and he was a solid CB with a goal threat for headers too. Captain of his country for 100 caps. Class act. The kind of player we need more of not less of. Best of luck Yoshi and thank you.

This is where the Liverpool run ends. Right here. Liverpool 0 - Saints 1.

Cedric Soares - Official: Loaned to Arsenal
Vancouver Saint replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
This. It's not too difficult to understand if you look at it from Cedric's POV. He put in 4 or 5 good years with us, was out of favour with Ralph in the past, can see the Gao set-up (i.e. little or no future investment) and understandably wants to move on. Once he has - in the correct gentlemanly way as he probably did - let the club know he does not intend to sign a new contract, then the decision is made for the club. Then it's a case of finding an outlet before the clock runs out...A loan deal with Arsenal (Spanish/Portuguse linkage with Arteta) and an option for a four year contract there is a step up for him (let's be honest) and a no brainer. For the club the decision is....keep him and try to get a player who wants out to run his heart out for us / not play injured / do an Ozil...or try to salvage something from the situation. Agree that the £5M fee nonsense is an insult to our intelligence though. Greater transparency required. There should be a supporters representative around the boardroom table for just such occasions as this. -
Saints v Spurs (FA Cup) Match & Reactions Thread

Totally agree 786. When is the club going to wake up to this and change it? -
Palace 0-2 Saints. Wild celebration reaction thread.

Fantastic performance and fantastic result. Hope the Redmond critics will finally zip it - he and Armstrong outstanding tonight and not just because they scored corking goals. All round team energy level and closing down was brilliant though - we were winning all the 50-50 balls in the first half and should have been two or three up at half-time. Thought we might have a different second half but so happy we continued in the same vein. I believe we can beat Liverpool. -
Is Bednarek out? That is a real loss. We get exposed as it is against powerful quick strikers running at us...Traore Saturday, Zaha tomorrow...we lack speed at the back and Bednarek has got used to covering for that. Would take a draw but think we're capable off more. Will be interesting to see what kind of a reaction Ralph can get out of the team after such a disappointing second half against Wolves.
-
How it goes sometimes. If we'd got the draw we deserved the whole tenor on here would have been different. Just watched Newcastle absolutely steal a win against Chelsea...only one team looked like winning that for 93+ minutes. Newcastle defended heroically but all the creation was Chelsea...outshot Newcastle 3 to 1 and 70% possession...lost to a 'punt it in there' hail Mary. Just how it goes sometimes.
-
Shouldn't over-react...that game could easily have gone either way. So close to 3-0 up and game over...their first goal turned the game. Is it only me that thought Bednarak missed the early tackle on Traore that would have stopped that? Anyway at 2-0 up texted my Wolves-supporter mate who had given up on his team saying they were in such poor form...knowing Saints I said it's not over...was strangely calm as the predictable comeback unfolded. Bottom line is it was an even game against a strong team. Redmond inches away from a spectacular goal that would have put us ahead. Fine margins. Anyone else think we are giving away teams a big advantage having their supporters behind our goal...especially when they attack that end in the second half?
-
Congratulations. So proud of our team. Never gave up even when it looked like we may not get the breaks we deserved.
-
We look like we have belief. That is a huge difference. Amazing how the same group of players can perform so well when they want to. Still think we need to strengthen a bit. Very happy with the result.
-
Well-earned point. contrary to what DAZN commentator said, thought we played well. Finished the stronger team but could have conceded late too. Satisfied with a point. Djenepo class.

Aston Villa 1 - 3 Saints - FT - Reactions and Christmas Cheer!
Vancouver Saint replied to Heisenberg's topic in The Saints
Jack Stephens MOTM for me. Ings did his job superbly - do we actually have a finisher now?! Long did okay (when you accept from the start he is not going to score everything else is about harassing defenders and setting up chances for others) Armstrong makes a difference in midfield, McCarthy not given a mention so far but also played well. Bertrand looked interested and had some great runs. Redmond still struggling a bit to find his confidence and touch but worked hard. Comfortable in the end but I confess with 20 minutes to play I said to myself...3-0 up - "how can we f--k this up from here"...knowing our team, I am still nervous two goals up with only extra time to play...I know you can all relate! -
Looked like a poor attendance. Says a lot when we can't fill our (relatively small) ground for a crunch relegation game when we're supposed to be finding our form. Tells me the punters know this team just isn't good enough to win games. Ings fantastic, Djenepo dangerous (but can't do anything without the ball), Romeu commanding when he came in, McCarthy actually pretty solid apart from silly kick at the end...whole back line poor today...Hojberg just not good enough, sooooo bad today but can't sub the captain heh...Long pointless...subs way too late...where was Boufal?
-
Horrible. Simply horrible. Hoj and Ward-Prowse no creativity or control of midfield. Bertrand off his game. Cedric too. Djenpo hasn't had a touch, nor Ings...Long just horrible...how can Ralph think Long is better than Che Adams? Second to everything. Opposite of fight. If ever there is a need to kick ass and change things at half time this is it. Adams for Long. Romeu for Hoj before he gets sent off. Antonio bossing this game for West Ham. Everything poised for three goals in 9 minutes from us and a 3-1 victory!
-
Relief is the word for me. Would really appreciate winning a game handsomely without the inevitable clinging-on, desperate crawl over the finishing line but how many times would we have conceded that equaliser recently? So happy we didn't and thrilled with 3 points and out of the relegation zone. Games are won or lost on such fine margins and commentators and press ride the momentum wave, so with seven points from our last three games and us moving up the table not down, let's feel good about it! With a new CB or two (what's happened to Danso?) in the transfer window and either a revitalised Valery or a new RB too, we could have the making of a decent mid-table team. Djenepo is class. Ings is in good form. We saw what Redmond could do last season...he just needs his confidence back. Boufal is gifted, needs to graft harder. On to Newcastle - a decent point there, possibly three would be nice to keep this little run going.
-
We actually won a game at home and if we win against Norwich we could even be out of the relegation zone. I only saw the second half. Thought we were abysmal until Djenepo / Ings bit of magic. Am very happy we got three points - that is all that matters at this point - about time we played badly and got some points. Still can't believe how bad we are going backwards though. Watford have zero shots in the second half, then get four corners in extra time or whatever it was. Real lack of composure. And Long on before Che Adams - seriously? Hasenhutl must now realise Adams is a better option...get him scoring and we might just get ourselves out of this mess.
-
Didn't get to watch the game as I was working. My son gave away the disappointment by texting me 'Classic Saints'...so I knew it was another last minute concession of a goal...but I was reasonably happy that we still got a draw and it wasn't another loss. Happier still we played well and should have won by all accounts. Would much rather that than have been hammered - and let's face it - even with Arsenal mis-firing that could easily have been the outcome. So kudos where it's due...let's stay positive - and bring that same game attitude and performance to the next game - but this time finally win a game at home!
-
Cannot see us surviving this season unless three things change: - we invest in some decent CB's and a goalkeeper in January (what is it with us and goalkeepers?...Gazzaniga now turning good at Spurs) - we get a truly gifted and inspiring captain on the field (I don't believe PEH or JWP are the answer) - we start winning games at St Mary's
-
NOOOOOO! The worst knee-jerk reaction. You really want a negative, park the bus hoofball crook to manage us? I'd rather give a ball boy a go.
-
What is it about St Mary's? How can the attitude and performance be so different from the Man City game just last week?
-
This. If we put that effort in every game we will be alright
-
Agreed. Sounds a positive and appropriate approach that was clearly in the works already.
-
This. Small things going the wrong way spiral into a super big mess...should've at least drawn against Liverpool (Ings where was your finish when we needed it?)...should've beaten Spurs against 10 men (but for an incredible second-half performance from Loris)...should've drawn with Bournemouth on balance of play and could easily have beaten Wolves...Che Adams looking promising but just not getting the breakthrough he needed, Djenepo looking like the spark we needed, then injured...so where did this incredibly amazingly shockingly bad result come from today? Pundits had it 1-1 before all the smart-Alecs say they saw it coming. Ralph has actually got some good performances out of a bang average squad, for which I blame consistent under-investment - which is Gao. Yes, I think Rohl is clearly a big loss and RH's right-hand man going is a significant factor. Yes, I think some of Ralph's selections have been bizarre...Gunn - why? Vestergard a liability, Hoijberg captain? Bertrand completely out of form/confidence, leaving out Yoshida, not playing Boufal etc - so he is certainly not blameless. But firing him now would be suicidal. Luckily, we have the opportunity to beat Man City twice to get us back on track. Ha!
-
I am not feeling pain any more...numbed by just how bad we are...have never seen a side capitulate like this, let alone us...except perhaps Sunderland when we did the reverse? Gunn and Valery should never play for us again. Hoijberg seriously questionable as captain of this crap.
-
OMG this is even worse than my worst-case scenario... "Abject capitulation' says the commentator...
