yellow&blue Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 I think it's obvious where we need to strengthen based on the goals that we have conceded in the league so far.. Millwall - conceded goal from a corner, after pressure from saved penalty Huddersfield - conceded penalty from a long ball clearance from Huddersfiel - saved but scored the rebound Huddersfield - conceded goal from a corner Huddersfield - conceded goal from long free kick outside the box Swindon - conceded goal unmarked from a corner I am confident that the goals will come from Lambert and whoever else and that we will get a result against Brentford. But serious questions need to be asked of our defence that is too old, and poor in the air with no pace whatsoever..........
Saint Charlie Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 This is the absolute concern area. Pardew knows about this, bloody shame the Jaidi deal didn't work out.

Saint Charlie Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Looks just as much that it needs someone in there to organize things at set pieces.

S-Clarke Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 I thought we were going to appeal. now is the time to bring in a new CB the bloody worry is attracting players is getting harder and harder after every **** poor defeat. good L1/championship players are not going to leave for a club that looks like it may be hovering in the lower reaches of league 1. (i hope you haven't changed your mind though hammond...) We've got to bide our time and get to January and see where we are..... quite worried tbh. brightspark Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 2 new CBs or bust. Thomas and Perry are clearly not good enough for League 1. Until they move to another club of course, where they will start playing great.

WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 2 centre backs ,a decent winger,Hammond and 2 strikers if Rasiak and Saga leave is the bare minimum we need. I fear if AP doesn't achieve this it will result in his own head in 10 games time when he is sacked.I worry about all the comments from the Charlton fans and warnings they have given us are currently ringing very true about AP.It's still early days and I hope he is given enough time as we don't need to keep changing managers. But with players playing out of position, subs not used to the final seconds and reading comments from Saints fan who we there questioning AP its worrying times. I imagine if we still haven't won after 10 games that NC & ML patience would have run out aswell as the fans!!Let's hopt things start improving on Saturday. Surely they can't get any worse can they!? John B Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Surely they can't get any worse can they!? I always think things are going to get better but they never do We have never been so low in the League table ever I would have thought even without the 10 point penalty we would be in or near the relegation places. Genk Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 I cannot get my head around how PROFESSIONAL footballers cannot simply mark a man from a set piece. Come on, the opposition dont have te presence of the likes of Terry in the air, it cannot be that difficult.

70's Mike Posted 19 August, 2009 Share Posted 19 August, 2009 This is going to be unpopular but it also highlights the biggest weakness in KD's game, he does not command the box at set pieces and his lack of height gets exposed , after saying that he gets no protection
chocco boxo Posted 19 August, 2009 Share Posted 19 August, 2009 It is easier to defend a corner or free kick than it is to attack one, however Saints are and have always been the exception to the rule. It was only when Hoddle was in charge we seemed capable of defending any? I agree KD seems to be in Nomansland when a good corner or free kick is whipped in. Unless we can get this sorted we will be swapping places with Dag and Redbridge!!!
DT Posted 19 August, 2009 Share Posted 19 August, 2009 This is going to be unpopular but it also highlights the biggest weakness in KD's game' date=' he does not command the box at set pieces and his lack of height gets exposed , after saying that he gets no protection[/quote'] Totally agree. The problem is the yawning gap he creates by not coming out when he should. Other teams exploit this. No coincidence our defence tightened up with wright. This will always happen with KD. Sorry.
