SaintRichmond Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Earlier this morning, on BBC Text, it said that David Moyes had managed to get a work permit for a Foreign player ( I forget the name ) ..... and it would " give us the chance to see if he's any good " .... I'd certainly never heard of the guy .... ( The BBC text has since been withdrawn ) I don't get it .... Jaidi, who's been actually PLAYING in the UK, at Prem ? and CCC level ........apparently cannot get a Work Permit ......... yet Everton get a permit for a player ... virtually just to have a look at One Rule for some ........ completly different Rules for others CRAZY
skintsaint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Ever Banaga is the fella...he is actually a promising player and think he qualifies under that rather than caps for country etc
Saint Martini Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 To be fair it is not that difficult to argue that Banega is a better player then Jaidi. He's already played at a higher level then Jaidi (Champions League) and is only in his early twenties. Eventhough I agree with you that the work permit rules seem a bit random at times I don't think this case is very peculiar.
Andy_Porter Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Promising young players qualify, hence people like Denilson, Lucas, Rafael etc all playing in the prem without being anywhere near the required games.
'00' Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Werent saints denied a work permit for Brad Friedel when Souness was in charge?
Albie79 Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Can Tunisians not get French passports? (or am I confusing with Algeria?) Because that would knock the need for a work permit on the head.
krissyboy31 Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 There are certain criteria that he would meet that Jaidi doesn't, age and potential certainly being part of the decision. Spare a thought for the Celtic Crusaders rugby league team, who have had 6 of their current first team, including the club captain, deported for visa/work permit irregularities. At least with Jaidi, we haven't paid out or invested anything other than time speaking to his agent. We tried him, it wasn't to be, let's move on. skintsaint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 I actually thought being in the UK for 5 years qualifies him for a UK passport? (does on FM anyway)

So what you are basically saying is that Jaidi, after playing over here for 5 years ?? .... can now pack up and go back to date picking in Tunisia ????
derry Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 The work permit issue may be irrelevant as the club haven't applied for one, which makes me think there may well be carried over injury problems from last season.

krissyboy31 Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 I should have added ...... even though he can still play at a reasonable level ??? CCC/Div 1 ..... ?????? There could be any amount of reasons that the visa application may be turned down but age and length of contract may well count against him. I can't imagine at his age we would be offering more than 2 years and maybe the Border Agencies aren't prepared to offer a work permit for only that period? There is also the FL's home grown quota rules that are coming into force, which might have something to do with it? Also, It wouldn't surprise me that being in the Division we are currently in, doesn't count against us when it comes to signing foreigners because there are more than enough EU born players to choose from. I think the level we are playing at probably is an important factor. There is enough dross kicking around without importing more from further afield. Smirking_Saint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 There is another criteria in the work permit arguement other than age and caps that is 'if a player can aid in raising the profile of the game' Banega is a very promising young argentine and so the work permit's decider's whomever thay are i would imagine have based the decision on this. The problem with Jaidi or even a 20 yr old in league 1 is that no matter how good they are they still would find it difficult to make a dent in the english games profile as they are out of the premiership and out of major competition. That being said, i find it hard to believe that they have turned it down outright, i think some are right in thinking there is more to it than that, after all, we seem to be the only club sniffing around and the Brum have released him after a good promotion season. John Boy Saint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 I think someone in the Work Permit department is a Saints fan, making sure we don't get another pit pony in the Squad. Pahars & Golac got through despite slim odds thankfully, Pertplopkin or whatever his name was a farce, and a shame. Delgado and his personal shopper Chala-la-la-laa had no grounds to be refused; and Ali Dia was as a result of our friend being on holiday at the time and his skate work colleague who was covering his in~tray thought it would be a wheeze to get the approved stamp out
derry Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Fair point ... but I would have thought that Saints would have issued a "no longer interested" statement ???? Having done due diligence maybe they don't want to give reasons why not. Alternatively if there is a medical problem, publicise it and prejudice the players chance of a club. If there is a problem maybe the player is getting medical treatment.
