Now Poland have all but missed out on qualification for the WC, do you think this will now impact how Saga views staying at the Saints?

So far this season he has shown commitment and quality on the field but was searching for a move to ensure he was in Polands WC squad.

Maybe this is not such an issue now........so might be good for the Saints.

Thoughts anyone?

Poland are 2nd from bottom in their group - I was a bit surprised at their poor showing, always had them as a reasoanble outfit. I'm sorry for Saga but the best thing he can do for himself and his nation is to apply himself and start banging in goals for Saints! Two on saturday will do nicely !!

Another way of looking at it, he might stop putting in as much effort BECAUSE he has nothing to play for.

I thought of this too, but I'm not sure, despite everything it would be surprising that any player would purposely be half hearted, happy to be dropped and not playing 1st team football. Saga has had periods of poor form in the past, but its rare he does not seem to try. MLT never seemed to put much effort in (but obviously was, especially when going for a throw in )

If that does not convince, you could also argue that he would try as I think his contract is up at the end of the season and he needs to play for a good one either at Saints or elsewhere........

I don't really blame Saga (or anyone) for wanting to better himself, or hoping to further his international career. I do think he's had a bad deal from Saints (starting with the loan out last season) which was an obvious way of saying we didn't want him.

He does seem to be a bit short of confidence and really needs a coach to give him encouragement (think Lawrie would have known how to handle him) in any case he does have a chance to re-establish himself in the current squad and score more of those great goals we've seen from him before.

No, its an obvious way of saying we couldn't afford him. There is a difference

I can just see the Polish manager begging Saints not to sign anymore Poles and thus turning good footballers bad!

I hope Saga stays and does a job. I think he'll come good eventually, but if he's still not interested in playing for us, ship him out on loan and bring another striker in.
