Competition: My advice to Alan Pardew is ...

OK there's no saying he's gonna listen, but..here's a chance to get away from the DVD game and play Football Manager...in a proper way. Jan.1st the transfer window opens and Alan Pardew will undoubtedly be in the market for some new faces.. but where ...and who? I'm going to suggest a competition to " out-think the manager."

RULES..? Well for a start..ONE entry per person only ..so think about it before you post.

Comment on each dept. in the team (see below) and say IF you would sign anyone.

I won't spend all my time refereeing the entries 'cos I'm sure you will post your success for us all to see ...come Jan.31st.

NOT part of the competition but IF you want to "name names"..you should do it before the Sun / Mirror/ NOTW or SSN publish it. Might be OK for those who think they are ITK... but it's always guesswork-isn't it ?

So... I'll put my head in the noose first.

GOAL : No changes. Bart should be good enough to stand for a month or two., and KD will be fit again in a month. (besides FA will OK emergency signings in the worst scenario).

DEFENCE : Dependent on whether Trotman stays longer.. or returns to PNE

....AP will sign ONE more CENTRAL defender.

MIDFIELD : Mellis is also loan ...but if he returns to Chelsea in January...

We will get ONE DEFENSIVE midfielder.

STRIKERS: I'm going for TWO more strikers. Connolly is good a long as he's fit, but I expect AP to sign a couple extra as cover for Lallana and Lambert. They are scoring freely now but if one gets injured ...what will happen ! ?

(our defence is a bit leaky so we need to score more goals in every game.)

Part 2. Living in Stockholm doesn't put me ITK by a long distance but I'll guess; that most of the loan players will get extensions, but that Pulis, Gillett and Lancashire will go permanently. Saga will move too.

(If he doesn't join Rasiak at Reading... he'll move back to Poland.)

So for what it's worth, thats my entry. Have a go .. Good luck!

GOAL : I think Bart will do ok so long as he keeps his confidence in check, i would however believe that AP is probably looking for a Loan here in case KD has set backs or Bart becomes shaky jake again.

.... Perhaps a Loan signing

DEFENCE : Keen to watch this space, obvious to me that the defensive part of the team needs work, Trotman became a little flappy for a while but i would expect him to come good. If not or if he is returning to PNE then i expect AP will look for a new aquisition here.

........ Perm or loan signing here, perhaps Ward but doubtful.

MIDFIELD : I think we seem strong enough in an attacking sense here, but agreed we need to sign a decent defensive midfielder to cover the back four. ....Perhaps two signings in this position, one perm and one loan. Expect to see a DM come in.

STRIKERS: Tricky one, provided that Saga moves on then yes i would imagine that we bring in another striker. Lambert and Lallana definately need cover in case they get injured however we do have Connolly and the young scot (forgot his name) so i don't expect any big moves here.

..... Perhaps a permanent signing of a youngster here, i think not much will happen without injuries. He may shock us with another decent striker to challenge.

Part 2. I have not heard any rumours at all as of late. I can see pards moving for people in january, he also said about completing a loan signing before the window closes so i can see something happening soon, perhaps a keeper ???

I believe Saga will move on, Pulis will leave, and lancashire will extend his loan to the end of the season.

Would be nice to extend Melis, Trotman (or perm) and antonion's loan deals to provide cover and competition.

Thats my guess, it all depends on how tight ML keeps his purse strings, and whether AP feels a promotion push is justified.

Goal: No changes, KD will be back early new year allegedly, Poke can be recalled if required (confirmed by fact that we denied Torquay permission to play him in FA Cup rd2). Bart is fine, Forecast is dodgy backup if needed. Personally I would unload Forecast in Jan, if not perm then on loan. Poke has got to be a better bet long term otherwise we would have let him go permanently by now

Defence: Need another CB whether or not Trotman stays

MF: Don't see any need for a change, but another attacking MF would be good especially if Mellis, Antonio or Papa go back to their parent clubs

Strikers: We need at least 1 new striker as cover for Lambert, clearly Saga is not wanted, so a direct replacement (though more of a target man)

In summary very few incoming, lots of squad players should be loaned out or released, primarily the ones already out on loan.

well that was brief and to the point - welcome back on Jan.31 and see.

GK - No change

DF - AP will sign Trottman permanently

MD - No change. Antonio will get loan extended for the season, but Mellis will return to Chelsea or go elsewhere on loan.

ST - AP will sign one Lambert type forward on loan

Saga, Pulis & Gillet will leave permanently for a near pittance.

Thats it I reckon. If anyone else comes in, it will be a "big" name such as Connelly rather than a squad type player.

Attack - Steal Simeone Jackson from The Gills.

They really do need the money to invest in their squad to avoid the drop and he would give us so many more options, not just from the start but also coming off the bench, we would have sucha fast team it would scare the pants off the opposition. He scores from anywhere and he will really shine with the AP touch and having the pressure taken off of him.

GOAL : Not sure BB is up to it, watched him .v. USA in the WC U-20 get chewed up for @ss paper. He stops the ball fairly well, but does not inspire confidence...and that is too big a risk to take. Get a loaner in from the MLS, who have a plethora of totally quality 'keepers. That is the one position that the US really excels at and you could get a 30/60/90 day loan while they are out of season here and not playing.

DEFENCE : Pick up one more good 'outside' full back.

MIDFIELD : More of a 'nice to have area' for us, I really think we're solid in their...maybe one more 'Lalanaish' type than can link between mids and strikers??

STRIKERS: Yeah we need at least one more decent 'goal-scorer' for our/the next level (but then again name a team that doesn't).

Part 2: There is a lot of top quality players if we find the right fit in Holland, USA, Australia and Scandanavia....just need to research them as players and as people before trying to bring new blood in. Dutch players seldom fail in England, Ausies and Americans are desperate for success/challenge/recognition over here and Scandanavia has historically been one of our best resources.

GOAL : No changes, unless Kelvins injury is worse than first anticipated. If so...poke back from Torquay.

DEFENCE : I think we're now looking at alternatives to Trotman, i've got a hunch he would like to play at a higher level and PNE can offer him that now. Pard's will go in for Elliott Ward for a fee (probably under £1m)

MIDFIELD : I think Mellis will stay with us until the end of the season, he's a nice attacking option to have. I'd also sign Jimmy Abdou from Millwall, very impressive deep sitting midfield player, scored the equalizer for Millwall at St Mary's and swept up v well. Millwall aren't flush with cash at the moment, so i'd expect a bid of around £1m should get him. Leeds tested the water in the summer.

STRIKERS: We'll sign a striker on loan - possibly from low end premiership/top end championship. I think it'll be someone with a bit of power and pace to compliment the likes of Connolly and Lallana.

A name that springs to mind is Marcus Bent

Bent is on loan at Boro so doubt it would be him.

Would love to see us sign George Boyd from Peterborough but is that just really wishful thinking?

didnt' know that! oh well.

can't see george boyd coming here. he's a top championship player IMO, would command a fee of 2.5m +. Has already scored something like 12 goals this year.

I Couldn't agree more.

And give them Sag to sweeten the deal

I also thought this, but can't see it happening, don't get me wrong, if it does then HAPPY DAYS

Defence - Trotts will go back to PNE I reckon and we will need to sign/loan another good young defender who is good in the air. Is it too early to start thinking about long-term solutions to the right-back position?

Midfield - Send Mellis back PLEASE. Loan a better attacking midfielder. Wotton and James between them should be good enough for the holding midfield role for the remainder of this season. Tell anyone enquiring about Lallana in no uncertain terms to feck off, we're no longer a selling club. Sign Antonio permanently for a small fee.

I think Saga is too costly for most L1 teams regarding his weekly wages, we'd ned to subsidise them, perhals he could go to a desperate CCC team who need a goalscorer and I would hope that he would get his hunger back as I think he's still hingover from our terrible last couple of seasons.

Re Jacko, I've watched him a few times in the last years and he is really exciting. Even though they have a couple of others knocking goals in basically there survival rests on his shoulders atm. They let too many in and I think that mark Stimson is desperate to stop the leaks, which is going to cost money.

A lot of Gills fans are starting to view Jacko as a luxury player ironically and after their last couple of decades up and down the leagues they just want stability and have a lot of faith in Stimson to steady the ship. He got them up through the play-offs last year with a few very wily finds from non-league and I reckon he is has already got a few others in his sights, thus appeasing Paul Scally's need for some wonga in his back pocket to pay his rent in Dubai where he now resides.

I have a few friends in Gillingham and they are much more accepting than we would be of selling the better players for the greater good of the club.
