I don't understand the people who stick up for him saying give him time to settle and all that - staying onside isn't something which you have to get used to or adapt to in another country! He is 25/26 years old and has played in Serie A and at international level - he must know the offside rule!

He has played at a higher level than the majority of our players and is on nearly £10,000 a week - even by being on loan he is our top earner.

For all that - Serie A and international experience and top earner at the club - you would expect more from him. The amount of offsides he has racked up already is almost laughable, hence the offside songs which have emerged recently.

I was there at Leeds on Saturday, too, and although no-one played particularly well for us, Papa's first touch and passing was pretty bad. The only reason he didn't get caught offside was because he was playing on the right! Only his work-rate and some spells of determination trying to win the ball back made it worthwhile him being on the pitch.

Sorry, I'm not trying to target him or anything like that - I thought there were worse people on the pitch on Saturday such as Lloyd James - but for a player like him who has been playing at the top level for a few years now, he should know the offside rule!

Oh and to back that up with some evidence - he was offside 7 times against Wycombe before he got substituted! 7 times! Wycombe!

Apart from that, seems a nice chap!

No he isn't. He wasn't against Norwich. Give it a rest. He's learning, unlike you it seems.

..and it has to be said that teams with a well-organised defence will always be able to catch a winger (almost any winger) off-side most of the time.

Some sides do it very successfully, so it's no surprise to see it - even up to the Premiership level. Not every game, of course but it happens a lot.

If the passing to him is that predictable, then the opposing defenders will read it and with his turn of speed, he'll be offside a lot more - unless midfielders can be more creative.

Did it ever not occur to you that, by playing at the top levels of Serie A, he might be used to a higher quality of official..? That is, one that can see and make the right decision..?

I do agree though, he seems a nice chap. I'd like someone to ask Alan Pardew for his opinion on the offide question.

Of course he knows the offside rule. I think its more a case of not anticipating what others around him are doing. He obviously has a certain level of skill and on occasions gets back well to cover but surely he needs a run in the side. This isnt a dig at Pardew but he still doesn't know whether to play Papa or Antonio and the only way either of them will improve is by being given a decent run of games.

And for how much longer is Antonio on loan with us ?

Simple question with no hidden innuendo.

Maybe not for long. The chopping and changing between Papa and Antonio leads me to believe that AP is not overly convinced by either of them but just maybe if Antonio went back in Jan it might give Papa a chance to shine as he undoubtedly has the potential. In MHO Antonio rarely has a good game when he starts and is much more effective as a "late impact" player

Yeah the officials are very poor in this league but you can't surely blame Papa's numerous offsides on the officials?! Yeah of course some of them would naturally be errors by the linesman but in the game against Wycombe Wanderers, for example, he was offside 7 times and got taken off well before full-time - say 2 or 3 were mistakes by the linesman, that still means he was offside about 5 times against a very poor team.

This is a guy who is our top wage earner, too - what do you make of other aspects of his game? To me, apart from having a bit of pace, he doesn't seem the most technically gifted, either.

I can see I have a higher opinion of Papa Waigo than you, because I do think he has more to his game than just pace. He's a goal poacher, having the ability to know where to be at the right time. And he's strong enough to shake off defenders.

BTW, found a song written about him. Anyone brave enough to sing it..? :)

I completely agree with you. My point was the fact that neither are getting a long enough run in the side to gain confidence and fulfill their potential. Impossible to accomodate both in the team unless one is used as an out and out striker.

I rate Antonio a lot higher than Papa Waigo, vital attributes of a winger is crossing and I've rarely seen him put a good ball. Papa Waigo needs to be sent back to Italy sharpish, how he has played international football is beyond me.

Go home, papa runs past players cuts in and pulls of some amazing passes to set up people.

Are you papa? You seem to have very unrealistic views/opinions on this guy - imo he's distinctly average, inconsistent and still has alot to prove.

You on the other hand seem to think he's Ronaldo!?

How many times have you actually witnessed Papa play or are they based on radio and reports? I'd guess at because your from Glasgow you don't seem him too often.

So do shut up and realise that if this is the case and you don't seem him play, that your opinion counts for naff all.

It really does baffle me how people can actually think they have an opinion on anything they have not witnessed.

Comments like "Still has alot to prove" are fantastic. He can only prove it to you if you bother turning up.
