david in sweden Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 (edited) Today we sit in 12th position, The next 5 League fixtures are all against teams ABOVE US in the league. Having knocked over some of the teams at the bottom end of the table, (those that normally lose) ...we are now up against teams at the top end ..who are showing better form. Our next five fixtures look like this ... Dec. 28 away .......Colchester ..currently 4th Jan . 9 home........Hudd'field ..currently 6th Jan 16 away.........Millwall ............. 9th Jan.23 home........Swindon ............ 7th Jan 26 away........ Brentford ............ 11th ----it goes without saving if we continue to win games, it will be 3 points less that these clubs get and move us closer to the top 6. We are only halfway in the season, but the next 5 games are critical if we are to get a play-off place THIS season. Golden Balls Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 January will be massive. Obviously with these tough fixtures and with the transfer window. Who will we bring in? Who will move on? It looks like January will shape how this season goes...

LaptopSaint Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 Three wins and two draws from those five would do me. But if we strengthen in January and keep up current form (including getting three points when not playing all that well) then we should be winning four of those. Colch and Millwall away are both tough but IMO winnable if we have good days. We're seven points of the playoffs and seven points off relegation now. It wasn't that long ago that we were in the bottom four. Gaining seven on the top six is obviously harder than gaining seven on the bottom four. So as OP says January will be critical. But anyone who thinks we don't have a decent shout at the playoffs is either daft or manically depressed. Come.On.You.Saints.

Isn't it bizarre ... at the start of the season I looked at the fixture list and thought how unattractive it looked, but now I'm am positively moist with anticapation

So lets just say we do not lose any of them, and come away with 9 points, (3 draws and two wins) were would we be in the table at the end of Jan? HK_Phoey Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 I think 10 points from these 5 games would be a good return. If we can win our home games and not lose our away games then we will be in good shape these five games are all six pointers. It is getting exciting but realistically we started the season 10 points off the play of places and it has taken us 23 games to get it down to 7 points but still think we will make the play offs COYR

Rather depends on how everyone else around us does however 0 points from 5 games is just above the average point per game return for the sides in 4th to 11th so we should move up at least 3 places! Lets B Avenue Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 The Swindon game is the weekend of the FA Cup 4th rd and I hope and pray we will be involved in that instead.

david in sweden Posted 28 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 December, 2009 I am not a fan of this thread title. well it's factual info. and I tried to keep it accurate and " hysteria-free" I didn't see it myself until I'd taken a long look at the fixture list... ..what would you have chosen as an alternative.?
