Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 for L1! All this talk about signing new players & resting players to help our promotion push...... Point is we should already have enough. We have some very good players (for L1) currently playing average - will signing other good players help? On paper we have one of the best teams in L1 - no question. GKs: Bart & Davis (more than good enough for L1) DEF: James, Mills, Harding, Trottman, Murty, Jaidi, Perry & Thomas (Should be good enough for L1) MID: Hammond, Lallana, Schneiderlin, Wotton, Holmes, Gobern, Antonio (more than good enough for L1) Att: Connolly, Lambert, Papa Waigo, Saga & Patterson (more than good enough for L1)

CLOTH EARS Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 I have a feeling that Trotman may stay till the end of the season and Antonio will be going back Melis already has gone back to Chelsea. krissyboy31 Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Antonio and Papa? You wont find many teams with pace throughout Papa's not particularly quick. He's ok (pace wise) in the same way Connolly is. Antonio is quick, in a headless chicken type of way but we lack pace in the centre of midfield and along the back four. INFLUENCED.COM Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Nothing wrong at all with wanting to strengthen our squad and who says we are not good enough for league 1 ? the point is we are trying to build a squad to gain promotion, its just that promotion may not happen this year

Without the -10 we would be squeezing into the playoffs by virtue of goal difference - still a poor return considering the team/squad we have. Perhaps I expect too much, or you've become content with 2nd best? Edited 28 December, 2009 by Glasgow_Saint

Perhaps I expect too much, or you've become content with 2nd best? I just dont think we are as good as a lot of people think we are. When we go up we need to be able to compete with teams in the CCC and stay there - I dont think many of this team are quality CCC players

I think Papa has improved as a player since he's been here, he is certainly worth keeping in my opinion. I agree with you about Antonio, he is quick, but he is erratic. He has had a few really good games such as MK dons at home and Bristol Rovers away in the FA Cup, but in my opinion he comes up a little short in terms of quality. Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Absolutely. A win against Huddersfield and there'll be a completely different perspective (AGAIN). No razor blades here - I just expected more. Started the season 10 points off the playoffs - 24 games and big money spent later and we are still 10 points behind! Started the season 10 points off top spot - 24 games and big money spent later and we are now 28 points behind!

Started the season 10 points off top spot - 24 games and big money spent later and we are now 28 points behind! This is all true but the start we made meant that the most we could realistically expect was to make the play-offs in 5th or 6th position and that IMO that is still on. Leeds, Charlton, Norwich and Colchester are not catchable but the rest most certainly are, with the team we have plus one or two tweaks here and there. 70's Mike Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Agree Mike, can't put my finger on it but I think our problem stems from midfield. Dunc i think the wide two players of the midfield 4 are to inconsistent, Lallana , Antonio, Papa, OFFER lots going forward but are very unreliable when under the cosh. Hence why i have stood up for Lloyd James when he has played at right back because the support he gets is poor, Dan Harding has had the same problem but gets by because of his experience. S-Clarke Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Agree Mike, can't put my finger on it but I think our problem stems from midfield. i think we lack natural out-and-out width, especially on the left and at times play from our midfield is either lopsided or very central and crowded. Our midfield needs to learn how to spread the play more often - too often at the moment we are just launching it from midfield into blind alleys, or straight down a strikers throat in a central position. Games are often won by getting in behind a full back and crossing the ball. We won lots and lots of games when we had Antionio doing that...but he's kind of been sussed out in many ways, so we look less effective. I'd love us to sign a real pacey out and out winger in January...
