Gator Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 Can't play this interview due to being 'out of the territory'. Can anyone give me an insight to his thoughts? Thanks! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8597859.stm

SuperMikey Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 'This item has now expired' IIRC I did see this particular clip, and I think he was comparing them as two different types of player but two players who could easily play above the level they're at now. I think he said that of the two, Lambert would make a better Premier League player.

Ponty Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 Yeah but I was busy watching Pearce's masterclass on commentary, which popped up when I gave the expired video linked a click of the mouse. That accounts for the missing 5 minutes or so and explains why I didn't realise anyone else had replied. I would've been the first if I hadn't bothered to watch that. P.S. Don't bother to watch it. Junction 9 Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 Neither would do well in the Prem, CCC possibly.

SuperMikey Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 Neither would do well in the Prem, CCC possibly. I agree to an extent, although I think Lambert could do reasonably well in the Prem if he's in a team where he gets lots of chances and support. He's a natural goalscorer, and his 30-odd goals this season and 30-odd last season have proved that imo. Although he is yet to be proved above this level, i've got no doubts that he'd do well in the CCC and could possibly even be a decent player in the Prem, although if Lambert is still here when we eventually get to that point, i'm not sure if he'd be more than a squad player. doddisalegend Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 If Omeriod managed to play in the Premiership I am sure Lambert could! And Fuller when he was with us no one had a good word to say about him now he's an established EPL player.
scotty Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 i seem to remember him saying Lambert has more to his game than Beckford who is just a good predator. Lambert would be my preference fwiw, but I always find it annoying when people moan about goal-poachers/predators etc. "All they ever do is score goals", blablabla, well thats all I want the f*ckers to do!! Malcolm Macdonald scored a shedload in his first England game I think?, was it 5 against Cyprus?? Wasnt good enough of course, after all he's just a poacher...... I'm sure it's a throwback to when your a kid playing footie in the park there's always that one kid who just used to goal hang and get all the glory, but no one liked;) You're right a striker that scores goals is what you want, however if you can get one that scores goals, sets up others in the team and works hard off the ball to create space for others that's even better. St Landrew Posted 27 April, 2010 Share Posted 27 April, 2010 Pearce considered Lambert to be the better player by some margin.
scotty Posted 27 April, 2010 Share Posted 27 April, 2010 The messenger has been shot and critically injured! lol, apologies for that and to dodd the legend, you are correct sir, but it still takes a particular type of talent to stick the ball in the net even if you're always hanging round the penalty area. The beckford goal that dumped manure out of the cup was top-drawer. Doesnt make him a Lambert tho;)
Deano6 Posted 27 April, 2010 Share Posted 27 April, 2010 Just seen the video. Great piece - very informative. Not sure I agree with his conclusiont that Beckford would get more goals. I didn't know that about Lambert's brother either!
