Surplus premiership/Championship player loans

I think/hope we will get one or two hot young prospects from the PL with pace and flair this year at SMS.

Does anyone know the date when the Premier League have to unload their squads to comply with rulings on squad size?

Is there such a ruling for Championship?

My gut feeling is that AP has been chatting to some PL managers about who he may borrow for a season from them to toughen them up a bit but he cannot do anything until the PL teams resolve exactly who is staying who is going...domino effect really. ...its only my guess but i think we will maybe BUY one ready quality passing professional at least championship standard (hopefully a CM) but take two younger ones from the PL who can attack and score from wide or central .....and that we may get them like buses....three at the same time......just a guess mind...

You have misunderstood the new rule...

If anything the rule makes clubs want to keep young players at the club rather than loan them.

Premier League clubs need to reduce the number of players over the age of 21. They can play and use as many under the age of 21 as they like on top of the 25 squad.

What Prem CLubs will be doing is selling players over 21 years old that aren't in their top 25 players.

Players under the age of 21 don't have to be registered in the squad of 25. So my guess would be that the NPC sides might get the fringe players from the prem on loan, and then the League 1 teams might get the NPC players that won't get a game.

Although as unlikely as it is, here's hoping that we can grab a prem fringe player on loan

reports are that we are linked to frimpong at arsenal..by all account, it would be a bit of a coup...lets be honest, any young'un coming through that club are going to be very good in league 1..

Can't see Frimpong coming now with Wenger's comments yesterday. He said he won't be signing a new midfielder due to the form of Frimpong and Wilshere.

Being as he started for them against AC Milan I would be utterly astounded if Wenger allowed him to come to us.

at the time of the Transfer deadline. The 25 man squad can then be changed during the January Transfer window up until the window closes.

It applies to all 4 English leagues

Ah...i see....thanks for clearing that up........so its the "over 21years old/older, squad type" players that are the most likely loanees to clubs in the championship and to us rather than the young young ones - mind you the really top clubs are unlikely to play their kids too often - look at walcott- he still barely gets a game every month or so........and thats if the club cannot sell them outright first.....Id say its less likely an older squad player would be happy popping down two leagues to benchwarm in case lambo gets injured or morgan etc but a youngster would be more likely to take it for a season "for experience".....Suggests to me that championship players may be more our potential market place hence looking at the likes of tyson who doesnt start for forest etc..

The younger players will probably get more games than you think. simple maths says 25 over 21 year old players means 2 players for every position with 3 players spare. How many times are clubs unlucky enough to have 2 right backs injured?

add to the fact that if you're not in the 25 man squad you're ruled out of playing first team football from the 1st September to the 31st December, I'd bet a lot of players will be happy to move down 1 or two Leagues. Not to mention the any clubs rescinding players will be happiest loaning to a club with who can get to nearest 100% of any players wages...

I'm a bit confused about this if it is all the way down the divisions...Surely we'll have to submit our '25 players' on the same day In which a club higher up will have to ? Therefore waiting until they have sorted their squad out, we won't be able to play them anyway until the 1st January ? Or am I being stupid in some respect here...

I think if you don't submit 25 over 21 year olds, you can add them until the loan window closes until you get to the 25. Saints for example only have around 19 over 21's the rest fit into the under 21 category.

I'm fairly sure that it doesn't apply down the divisons - a quick Google search suggests that this is just a Premier League rule. I'm pretty sure we would have heard a lot more about it if it affected the Football League as well.

Can anyone find any evidence that this actually applies to us?

England's Football League clubs have agreed new rules on the number of "home-grown" players in their squads.

From next season, clubs will have to name 10 "home-grown" players in a squad restricted to 25 players aged over 21.

To qualify, players must be registered in domestic football for three seasons before turning 21.
