Foxstone Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 I cannot see that this has been posted before (apologies if it has), but I had no idea that our stadium was listed as a potential 2018 world cup stadium. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBgQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.2018england.co.uk%2F2018-stadiums.html&ei=QPhzTP2aI4yOjAeE2a3yCA&usg=AFQjCNHbYdEVSsOkU6YJXhuGcZcvbIlFtA Can't see any real competition to us in the South of England and FA money to help increase the capacity and update the fixtures and fittings will be no bad thing either
The Kraken Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 It wasn't included in the formal bid.
Colinjb Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 It wasn't included in the formal bid. This. If that is a formal list then it'll certainly come as a surprise to the people of Coventry, Plymouth, Derby and Nottingham.
Foxstone Posted 24 August, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 August, 2010 Understand that, but it seems that should our bid be successful then they will be looking at various suitable provincial stadiums to host knockout games - And we seem to be high on the list for a stadium south of London. Certainly we have overtaken the aspirations of the crew at Krap Nottarf

We are not in it, the Skates are not in it, Reading are not in it. 'Tis done and dusted. http://www.england2018bid.com/hostcity/

Whitey Grandad Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 The FIFA officials looked at all 16 of those stadiums yesterday. Blimey! They must have moved quickly. I don't think I could manage more than 3 or 4 in one day.
krissyboy31 Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 I believe we were put on a reserve list, which means if any of the chosen venues fail to materialise, we could step in.

I didnt pay much attention but there was a map of the world with a load of places on it including places all over the country. I was suprised to see Pompy as one of the places on the map along with Plymouth and everywhere else north of london. If it was the places they are visiting then why are they visiting Pompy? Perhaps showing them an example of how 'powerful' their vetting process is.
Barry the Badger Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 If it was the places they are visiting then why are they visiting Pompy? Perhaps as an example of one of the poorest, scankiest areas of the country which would benefit from the "FIFA TM WORLD CUP Copyright TM". "FIFA TM copyright all rights reserved" love all that ****e. The Kraken Posted 24 August, 2010 Share Posted 24 August, 2010 Think I saw on the news, they went to Wembley, then Downing Street for a meeting with Nick Clegg followed by a stay at The Dorchester. Then a helicopter trip up to see Newcastle & Sunderland (I'm assuming via more bid city locations), culminating in Manchester.

With Russian oil money available to grease the wheels of the FIFA kickback operation, I tend to agree. Allegedly.
