benjii Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 Some media outlets (including Saints' official Twitter - which, by the way, has rubbished the Hart rumours again) are suggesting that Barnard was booked for the tackle and then booked again for his reaction to it. Solent thought the ref just ****ed up by getting his yellow out instead of his red. I would like to hear what other people thought. If anyone would like to recreate the incident using Subboteo/cartoons/chocolate coated raisins or nuts, and post the photos on here to help explain then I would be overcome with emotion. Thanks. Gemmel Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 Dean Wilkins came out and said that the refs cards were stuck together and whilst it looked like he was sent off for two yellow cards, the second one was a straight red

So that will be a three-matcher. That's annoying.

The9 Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 I couldn't really see the tackle due to the bodies in the way (thoguh what I could see of it didn't look too bad, but that was only the sliding bit!), and had assumed from 70 yards away the first (yellow) card was for a Swindon player retaliating to Barnard. Hatch Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 It's not clear. He was shown a yellow, then squared up to one of the Swindon players. So maybe he was shown a straight red for something he did/said after the tackle. But we saw the ref was colour blind at other occasions in the match, so anything is possible. saintsub Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 It was a staright red but Ref screwed up (again) and showed yellow by mistake - 3 match ban. It was a bad tackle and there is no getting away from the fact he deserved the red.
saintsub Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 Btw Barnard's attitude was that of an angry young man from the moment he came on (had a go at Guly and young OC (who btw had a very good game)- perhaps the actions of a young man annoyed his boss had been undeservedly sacked and a two fingered salute to NC - just a thought? Golden Balls Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 I thought it looked like a bit of a lunge but one footed and won the ball. Very harsh from where I was.
Whitey Grandad Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 I thought it looked like a bit of a lunge but one footed and won the ball. Very harsh from where I was. Exactly what I saw. The referee went straight to his back pocket after the whistle which usually means a straight red (some use their breast pocket.

Funny you say that, I thought he looked a bit too wound up in the last home game, nothing serious happened but when over on my side of the pitch he didn't look like he was enjoying himself out there! I know he gets stuck in and chases down but I remember thinking he was pushing the boundaries.
