Rut Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/8635544.Saints_fans_keep_up_remarkable_away_following/ 1,000+ at each game is good going - how many if we'd been doing really well? A lot of us are there in spirit. Have a beer on the train for us.
dune Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 Our away support now is remarkable. During our Premier League days we never used to take that many to places like Blackburn and Middlesbrough.
John B Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 Our away support now is remarkable. During our Premier League days we never used to take that many to places like Blackburn and Middlesbrough. We are a big city compared with most in League 1 So I would expect our away support would be pretty high. I would rather go to Hartlepool and Oldham to see us win than go to Blackburn and Middlesbrough to see us lose and probably pay more for the priviledge. View From The Top Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 It does seem that as we've fallen through the leagues our support away from home has increased. We take 2.5k to a place like Walsall when we struggled to take 1.5k to Villa. Guess I'd better get ready for trip up the M6 to Carlisle.

I too would rather go to away games with a better chance of winning, and actually prefer smaller towns unless it's a weekender. Norwich and Ipswich have always been my favourite away trips because they're both nice cities mainly populated with people I can relate to. There's just a nice feel about these cities as they haven't yet gone down the pan like the majority have.
70's Mike Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 away support is directly related to the chance of seeing a win, during the last promotion season in the late 70's are away support was great.
benjii Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 I just wish we were as loyal and passionate as the Portsmouth fans. They are truly amazing.
Badger Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 away support is directly related to the chance of seeing a win' date=' during the last promotion season in the late 70's are away support was great.[/quote'] I certainly recall the trip to Craven Cottage on a Friday night, and the midweek promotion clincher at Orient. I think about 5/6,000 made the trip to both, possibly more at Orient. My only regret that season was not being part of the reported 10,000 at Luton. Badger Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 I just wish we were as loyal and passionate as the Portsmouth fans. They are truly amazing. I too wish we had some cretin with a bell,a bugle, tatoos, and chef's trousers and a wig to follow us. Perhaps we do have such a fan,who would be our best fan in the world,if he did not spend so much time in a treatment room.

sfc1976 Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 Following on from the Luton game mentioned, another bit of nostalgia - remember Wimbledon away when we won 2-0 to pretty much make us safe? Matty scored from a corner I think. Must have taken up all the Arthur Waite (sp?) stand! Great day.
