woodsaint Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 Has been receiving rave reviews on match of the day for his recent performances for Blackpool. Could have ended up at us after we were tracking him when he was at Wycombe last season. One that got away maybe....
Saints foreva Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 I think I remember people on this forum moaning when he was linked, something about us not having much ambition if we're interested in signing a Wycombe player...
SuperMikey Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 Was reading the Blackpool board on 606 earlier to see if they were talking about the FA Cup game (they're not) and stumbled across a thread on MP, they love him! From what i've seen of him from watching MOTD and Blackpool playing live on the telly he would have torn this league up as an impact sub. However, if he can learn to hold his own in the Prem now against teams like Arsenal, United etc it would be of more benefit than playing Dag&Red and Yeovil. Chez Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 as I recall he was one of the players many Saimts fans suggested as a possible signing and most were dissapointed when he got a better offer. How many of those had actually seen him play and not jumped on the paper speculation I don't know, but I'm glad there are some Saints fans that can differentiate between elbow and arse. Brilliant that Blackpool are doing well. I hope we can follw their lead in due course.
woodsaint Posted 30 December, 2010 Author Share Posted 30 December, 2010 One that got away because he chose the top flight rather than division 3. Are we really going to stress about that? Not really stressing about it, and i believe we were linked with him well before blackpool came in and made the signing, we maybe tried to wait it out and it cost us
Chez Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 we maybe tried to wait it out and it cost usgive it a week or two and this pure speculation will be used to beat Pardew or Cortese with.

So you think a player currently playing premier league football and a big favourite at his club would only get into our squad as an impact sub? SuperMikey Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 So you think a player currently playing premier league football and a big favourite at his club would only get into our squad as an impact sub? Not necessarily, but he's being used as an impact sub at Blackpool, and if here were to be used in a similar role in L1 he would excel. I don't think anyone is guaranteed a berth in the starting XI in our squad.

But Cortese refused to sanction the deal and only offered a meagre £50k. Wycombe were asking £250k When Wycombe refused to discuss that 'derisory' offer, it was increased to £55k.. This was at a time Cortese was steadfastly refusing to back Pardew. Wycombe broke off all discussion and refused to answer the phone to our chairman. It was 3 WEEKS LATER Blackpool got him.. Another victim of the Cortese/Pardew spat, as was Ward from Coventry. Edited 30 December, 2010 by patred44
