Doble goes on loan

I always thought Paterson looked out of his depth for Saints, the only time I've seen him put in a decent performance was up at Farnborough pre-season (2008?) when he showed the kind of finishing he didn't have for Saints - though you could see he was always giving his best. Actually thought Southend in League Two would suit him, but clearly Sturrock didn't agree.

Stockport may be his level - hopefully Doble being a mate of his (and a better player IMHO) they'll both get a few goals.

Paterson scored Saints first goal in the Liebherr/Cortese reign

It's seems a long time ago now

I think he's a confidence player. He's never going to be world class, but if he's playing in a team regularly and feels wanted, he may surprise some people.

Stockport might be the perfect club for him

Absolutely spot on guys. I work with loads of Southend and Charlton fans, they all rate him! One minute the lad is number one striker about to start the season, next he's dropped to the bench and Mr Sturrock brings in son Master Sturrock and Paterson doesn't get a look in. The Shrimpers fans think he's been shafted, firstly to come to Southend in the first place (Pardew gave him an ultimatium re Barnard) and secondly he has scored something like 4 or 5 goals in six or seven games whilst 'son' has got 4/5 in about twenty five games!

The lad is liked, just had a real hard time, I remember his goal away to Ipswich - quality. Best of luck to him, hope he gets a few more at Stockport and his career takes off.

If Pulis can get a goal there, Doble will get a few. Lets hope he comes back after his time there, invigorated by Saints being Any Good in comparison.

STOCKPORT !........what was the line in that song .." if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere ..."

This exactly what our Academy lads need. Nice job Doddsy - was it 14 wins in a row ..or more ?

but if they are that good at Academy level - get them out playing some real football - even if it is Conference sides.

A lot of Conference sides have youngsters in their line-up and it's a good test at a higher level.

Get some first / second year scholars in at U18/ U21 level and let them have a few games, it will help to improve everyone.

Who cares if the U18s lose a few games without them, we already know it's a good squad and if the better lads are getting some experience they'll progress quicker. They may not all be in the Walcott / Bale / AOC class, but it'll give us extra options if they do well out on loan.

Older fans will recall that even legends like Channon, Shearer and MLT took 1-2 seasons to get a regular place on the bench.

They had to learn and these loanees will too.
