dronskisaint Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Southwold... a bit posh but pretty..got a beach and a pier but more importantly - home of Adnams Don't know what you're looking for (with family, kids?) or where you're staying. Let me know and I'll try to help...if you're looking for clubbing, party capitals of the world etc...er - don't come to Suffolk!

anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Another recommend for Southwold. Woodbridge and Aldeburgh are nice. Ipswich is a real ****hole.
Ken Tone Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Another recommend for Southwold. Woodbridge and Aldeburgh are nice. Ipswich is a real ****hole. yep ..Southwold if you want very posh version of traditional popular seaside resort. Aldeburgh if you want a bit quieter with but still with a bit of character, plus a bit of culture since it is the home of much classical music. If you want nightlife and excitement, don't go to Suffolk.

dronskisaint Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 With the wife and kids and staying near Woodbridge - already sourced a local that's showing the Blackpool game Thorpeness Mere that adjoins (virtually) Aldeburgh...my kids loved it...you can hire all sorts of boat and go exploring - I won't say too much more as it's fun finding out...other stuff in the village too. There's pubs overlooking the water if you Easton Farm Park is only a few miles away - not sure of the age range of your kids? Vineyards, all sorts really - can easily fill up a weekend

Golactico Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Had a week just outside Southwold this half-term just gone. A nice part of the world. I agree with others, Southwold and Woodbridge are nice. Ipswich hasn't got much to recommend it, but if you (or your wife) are into shopping then it's the place to head for. The thing that struck me most about Suffolk is how clear the roads are - perhaps we just got lucky? Oh, and the brewery shop at Southwold does small kegs of Adnam's Broadside for about 15 quid. Lovely 6%+ beer.

I lived in North Essex for 7 years in the 90's and can indeed confim that the traffic "up there" is nothing compared to the over-crowded traffic-fest down here.
