I've just started HIIT, high intensity interval training. Famous for giving Andrew Marr a stroke and I can see why.

It gets easier, well, then you have to go harder but put it this way you are gonna get a massive hit out of 30 mins. Anyone who spends regularly more than a hour a day working out is wasting their time. (That includes weights)

Increase the protein levels in your diet, lessen your carbs, lower your fat content, stop thinking of losing weight think more of losing fat - Job done.

Also, some sort of exercise will help such as running, HIIT, crossfit or generally something you'll enjoy such as a martial art or something similar and ignore broscience (and don't waste your money on stuff you have to pay thru the nose for like a ton of Insanity DVD's).

Print off a copy of insanity work out calendar and follow the programme on YouTube. Simple ;)

That might work but I'd still recommend the OP lost the required body fat doing something they enjoy, this way they wont get bored and stop doing it....football is always a good suggestion.

Its not all that difficult as long as you're will to make a few sacrifices. I wouldn't worry too much about going on a specific diet. You know what you should and shouldn't be eating, cut out the crap and exchange it with fruit and veg.

Also exercise will help you lose weight much quicker than simply dieting. I do a few boxing/thai boxing classes a week and try to swing a kettlebell at least 5 times a week. I also do a parkrun (http://www.parkrun.org.uk) on a Saturday morning (5k run) which gives me something to work towards, helps to keep the interest up. I also hear that squash gives you a really good workout, but its not for me...

Really? I know guys who work out on weights all the time, are you saying they are wasting their time doing more than an hour a day?

I play football once a week sometimes two, walk the dog for an hour everyday, ride my bike 15-20 miles a week, not much but enough for me, odd weight session as have gym in garage, just cut out the **** but make sure to have one bad meal a week as a reward, dont punish yourself, Christ some people do this so they live longer, all they are doing is prolonging an agonizing life.

Do whats fun for you but a little bit healthy, it should be fun not hell on earth.

I happen to think you are very wrong, I know body builders who do 3 hours in/break and then another, you think just an hour a day would get them into the shape they are in?

Whilst Aerobic exercise can be done for a few hours and that's fine, it's a question as to whether you believe that after an hour your testosterone levels decrease and your cortisol levels rise AND, in an ideal world, yes, you should only weight train for a maximum of 1 hour at a time....but personally, I think if you are enjoying what you're doing and it doesn't cause a level of tiredness that affects you for several days later, there shouldn't be a problem.

I think the OP was talking about losing weight, not a desire to make yourself out of proportion due to fully inflexible and unfunctionable muscle.

Besides, I have been reading a fair amount of evidence which points to the fact that after around an hour you are wasting your time and lets face it the majority of time spent by BBs in the gym is looking in the mirror and talking !

So Ill agree to disagree, anything other then specific training (BB/marathon) then you are wasting your time over an hour

I take that as a stepdown then, one hour a day at a gym for a bodybuilder is not ebough, to lose weight is questionable whether the gym is any good at all, the gym is for muscle, cardio and fitness not neccessarily weight loss, a good diet is the main thing.

Well that is certainly bull, HIIT training is v v good for weight loss, of course if your still eating like a fatboy bloater then you are probably going to struggle but if you bash out around a 6-700 calorie session then thats effectively a meal you have eradicated.

As per Bodybuilding, I am really not so sure, there is only so much new muscle your body can build at a time, and there are things I have read over the course of the past year or two that point to the fact anything over an hour and your gains severely deteriorate. Therefore IMO you are far better off finding an hour of your life and work hard in it.

Step down ? Not really. You could have used the marathon training analogy where you have to train for hours but thats entirely different.

If your trying to lose weight, just dieting IMO is v hard

Its easy - you need to get into a routine of being in calorie deficit, not too much though or you'll flake out. There are loads of calorie calculators out there to tell you what you need to do.

As it happens I've lost about 2 stone this year 14st down to 12st, I did the Insanity program and loved it, got out of bed at 5.30 and straight at it for 2 months. The first day I ended up being sick, and by the end of it I was jumping about all over the place.

Food intake is the key, if you can top it off by introducing some form of exercise then it takes the pressure of the food intake. You don't have to be anal about it either, after a couple of weeks you start to realise roughly how many calories you are taking in.

Good luck.

Totally agree with this. Although I like to focus more on fat loss rather than weight loss (since muscle is denser than fat) but I've read a fair old bit about the insanity regimine and even though I'm at a reasonable weight and body fat % I'm certainly considering giving it a go (I'd like to see if it's as crazy as some martial arts warm-ups I've done (a good hour of burpees, hindu dands, press ups and running for example).

Hi Junction9. Not seen you about on here for a while. How you doing? You still fixing dishwashers? I might have some work for you. Give me a call or PM.
