lordswoodsaints Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 at the start of the season up until a few weeks ago we were playing some nice football, even though the results were not great we were still passing the ball nicely and it was good to watch.i know this doesnt count for much if we lose but now it seems we are not even playing decent football. dont get me wrong i wasnt enjoying losing, but at least we were getting something out of going to watch week in week out ,now we are not even getting decent footie just a load of disjointed sh1te,players not knowing their jobs and players buckling under the slightest bit of pressure. trousers Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 Said this before but this season has the hallmarks of Lowe wanting to manouvre the club into administration so that he can either (a) make the club more attractive to an investor at the post-administration end of the tunnel ] or (b) acquire the whole club himself for a song Why else would he be overseeing such a malaise and decline with seemingly no worries about what is happening...? 2+2=? sadoldgit Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 They are only human. The pressure must be getting to them and the confidence not so much ebbing way as pouring away. Charlton are another club going through the same stuff and they were riding a lot higher than us until recently. It happens to teams every year and it is happening to us right now. If we had picked up a couple of wins before the Palace game who knows, things might be different now. Lose several games on the trot and fear and doubt creep in, people lose their heads and rows break out. That is exactly why people need to pull together now and regroup and support each other rather than point fingers and lay blame. But we are so much better at the latter. sadoldgit Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 There is so much to be said for a winning and tough mentality. We don't have that yet and it is hard to see where it is going to come from. What price a Jimmy Case right now?

Where SoG does that much needed belief and confidence come from? We have seen all this before. These kids do not have what it takes yet to dig deep because they do not have the reserves on which to call. They (unbelievably at this club) are not used to losing... Excuses, have their uses, but now they're all used up, all used © Martn Fry I presume we must be the unfortunate Club as we are the only team who has to play on Boxing Day and then on the following Sunday:rolleyes::rolleyes: Bern, start up a petition to lobby the Championship about this unfair rule which we only suffer from. Oh dear, here we go again. Do Premiership teams play on Saturday then on SKY the following Monday night??? No we are not the only team to have to do this this time but we were when we played Palace a few weeks ago. When you are down the bottom and struggling with a young and inexperienced side do you think it is helpful having to play two games in two days?? Still you are always up for a pop Steve and never disappoint do you? I am sure you can remember the good old days when teams had at least three days rest between games? A couple of bew players would help but it is hard to see that happening unless we can ship others out. Sadly it will probably have to come from within, which is why I am saying there needs to be a change of attitude by many who see that the current regime are only here to destroy the club. Like him or loathe him, we are stuck with Lowe right now and if we do not support the club as a whole, the infighting will tear the club apart. Churchill made an alliance with Stalin for a greater good, we need to get through this season in one piece and worry about the Chairman in the close season. Otherwise we shall certainly still be *****ing over Lowe whilst in the third tier.

Lighten up, SOG, we can all see the irony for what is is... As for experience, there's no substitute for playing real games. Many of us can remember when they played 3 games over Easter and Alan Ball (God bless him) won the world cup and was back playing in the league less than two weeeks later. Let's not start looking for excuses where there are none.
um pahars Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 Do Premiership teams play on Saturday then on SKY the following Monday night??? Whooooooossssssssssshhhhhhhhhh No we are not the only team to have to do this this time but we were when we played Palace a few weeks ago. I doubt we were, or else Palace wouldn't have turned up (they played Derby on the Saturday). Then again, I still think we would have only managed a 0-0 draw. And I'm sure that wasn't the only Monday night game, which of course means other teams have had to play two games in three days. When you are down the bottom and struggling with a young and inexperienced side do you think it is helpful having to play two games in two days?? Jan seems to think it was an ideal opportunity to bounce back. Some people might liken it to falling off a bike and getting straight back on. If you were top of the table and had some niggly injuries you too might want a break, but at the end of the day them the rules and they're the same for everybody. Using it as an excuse is scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel. The fixture list is the same for every team in this division, if we can't handle that fixture list, then it just shows that under Lowe and Poortvliet we can't handle this division. I am sure you can remember the good old days when teams had at least three days rest between games? I can remember QPR on Xmas Eve & Luton Town on Boxing Day. Excuses have their uses, but now they're all used up, all used.
sadoldgit Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 Easter was a one off. Cup competions are one offs. The CCC teams play an awful of of midweek games compared to a few years back. Go and watch that film of the 1966 final again and see how many players are strolling aroung the pitch with their hands on their hips having a breather. Premiership clubs have much bigger squads now because they can't get 13 players through one season.
sadoldgit Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 I think there was only one more game that night, a prem game, and I don't believe that either team played on Saturday. Otherwise we shall certainly still be *****ing over Lowe whilst in the third tier. I don't think me arguing or otherwise with you will make the blindest difference to whether Adam Lallana has any belief in his abilities... I supported Poortvliet and I still like him immensely. But it seems we have hit what we were always going to hit - the young players' enthusiam and willingness which worked in flashes at the start of the season is now starting to be found out. You are right - this group of players are tired. Most are in their first season and have NEVER played this many games in a full season - let alone in three/four months!!! That means we need to rotate them better - to mix in more experience more often and to forget playing great football. We need to grind out points. We need work from front to back on better defensive strategy. It doesn't mean we can't hit teams on the break. YES - we have no money. BUT that does not mean we HAVE to rely on youth alone. We could have brought in players from lower leagues with better experience, older players on lower wages - maybe with the offer of a coaching role? I hate that idea, but maybe it's actually what we needed. Look at what Allerdyce did with Bolton. In recent weeks something has changed where we have stopped even playing good football and losing!!! Change is essential unless you ascribe the current situation to a slump - and then you need to tell me how we will get out of it? The truth is you and me can do nothing but support. um pahars Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 I think there was only one more game that night, a prem game, Indeed, we were the only Championship game on that night, BUT on other Monday nights other teams have played when we have sat it out. A couple of weeks before us, Burnley played Barnsley on a Monday night, having both played on the Saturday two days earlier. We are not the only ones who have played games in quick succession, nor will we be the only ones going forward,so it's a pathetic excuse, but something I expect from you, who continues to rattle out half truths and errors. and I don't believe that either team played on Saturday. Saturday, 06 December 2008 The Coca-Cola Football League Championship Derby1-2 (HT 1-1) Crystal PalaceVarney 41 McCarthy 3 Kuqi 61 Monday, 08 December 2008 The Coca-Cola Football League Championship Crystal Palace3-0 (HT 2-0) SouthamptonKuqi 9 Beattie 15 Ifill 75 Bookings: Hill 43 Bookings: Perry 87 And we played Sheff Weds on the Saturday before the Palace game!!!! Still Steve, as ever, if it doesn't fit with your agenda have a pop and carry on.... My only agenda is to be fair, consistent and wherever possible factually correct (something you would do well to heed).

Only one other explanation... arrogance in his own (lack of) ability. I think you're on to something there and that worries me. I can see Lowe having the ruthlessness to do this. Afterall he has hated the people whom administration and further relegation would mean the most for their pride, passion and optimism... the fans. derry Posted 27 December, 2008 Share Posted 27 December, 2008 This business of games close together is rubbish, at one time games were played on consecutive days and sometimes as many as 3 in 5 days. With a heavy ball and on mudheap pitches. If they were winning they wouldn't be tired. The team is set up all wrong, the published system is not being played anyway, the players are playing off the cuff and the management haven't got a clue. Whilst I'm sure it needs a few new players to push for the top spots the team as it is should not be floundering on the relegation zone. The coaching / management / motivation / tactics / whatever are clearly not working.
