Minsk Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Great article on the OS - http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11169 - well, it made me lol anyway. It says how Ryan Smith is one of the few Saints players to have played against ManUre before (as a sub for the Arse in a 1-0 loss Carling Cup match) and then goes on to state his 'Giant Killing' exploits. To save anyone who doesn't want to read the entire thing the bother of following the link: he played 89 minutes for Leicester against Spuds, when the Foxes scored a 90th minute goal to record a 1-0 win in the cup 2 years ago. In other words, Leceister scored the only goal of the game just after he was subbed off. Still, here's hoping he and the other 'kids' can do the business tomorrow. Minsk Posted 3 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 3 January, 2009 But it is from our "big" signing so it must mean a lot:smt078 Yep, it means if it is 0-0 with a minute to go we should take him off and then we might get a last minute winner. St. Jason Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Yep, it means if it is 0-0 with a minute to go we should take him off and then we might get a last minute winner. To be fair just push Smith on to the inside and thats end of his game. Watched him against Reading, playing down the right, being left footed he had to keep cutting back in, if we're going to play him, play him on the left. Wouldn't it be lovely to see a player get to the bye-line and cut it back!

Mole Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 The OS really has gone down hill. Every article should start "and now a party political broadcast by the Lowe Party".

It's not just that though - when Smith went off and BWP came on, Bradley played on the left (right footed) and Holmes moved over to the right (left footed). F*cking madness. Funniest line from the OS in months! Be fair Offix. There is huge pressure on the Mancs not to slip up. And I can see that pressure lasting for much (if not all) of the first few minutes of the game...

Hate to be a pedant ... but the Leicester cup game was a 3-2 win. They came back from 2-0 down. Ive no idea how well or badly smith played though! sidthesquid Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Why are people constantly surprised that the OS pushes the party line. That is their job, regardless of who is in the boardroom. There cannot surely be a single football club or any other business in the world whose website does differently. It's what it is there for. If you want independent news try this site or the Echo or any other independent website, but not the official website for the club.

Smith sets up a goal with a decent cross from the left wing (please note Jan that's the left wing).
Saint in Paradise Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Perhaps Jan confuses his left and right as he now has a car with a steering wheel on the right and not the left which he was used to ?

If you want independent news try this site or the Echo or any other independent website, but not the official website for the club. Oh please! Have you read the OS recently? It would make Pravda's editor blush. There are websites which are club's corporate mouthpiece....and then there is our site, which has only just stopped short of telling us that being second bottom of the league is actually a good thing because it's the bottom three who are promoted. Our site is a joke; often factually inaccurate, riddled with spelling errors and driven by one man who wants to make us all believe (yes, he thinks we are that gullible) that everything at SFC is sweetness and light. The articles are a joke, and the match 'verdicts' are just the game reports with a poorly written introductory paragraph. Graham Hiley would be ashamed to put his name to them. ulstersaint Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Smith's comments on the OS are absolute tosh! ManUre are under no pressure at all and will stroll this game. BTW can anyone tell me why Dyer was given a contract and then loaned out to 2 clubs this season when clearly he is better than Smith (ie he scored a good goal for SheffU recently and at least can get to the byeline and cross a ball)? As we're tight for money it'd pay to order a 5 seater cab and load it with lowe, Wilde, Wotte and Cowen too!

The9 Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 i think this post should be highlighted, turned in bold type, font enlarged and sent to every and anyone that cares about Saints as a reason to remove JP from his post! Or alternatively you might want to consider that JP wanted his wide players to cut inside and shoot rather than crossing the ball, hence putting them on opposite wings to their stronger foot. It didn't work, but then crossing the thing to McGoldrick hasn't done much either. The real issue here is the constant selection of McGoldrick, though as we only had him and the improving Patterson left for the Reading game AND McG actually scored, now's probably not the time to be raising that issue. Of course, Smith is one footed and cack nevertheless and I think most Sunday sides would be able to negate him due to his one-footedness, but the "everything Poortvliet does is wrong" viewpoint is tedious nonsense, just as the "everything Lowe does is wrong" one is. Feel free to consider his reasons for picking the players in the positions he does rather than just dismissing it as "wrong" because it's not conventional thinking. Fortunately the glimpse of McLaggon suggested he's at least as competent as Dyer so far, as with Thomson, who does most of what Dyer provides and can also defend. Of course this appraisal is based on only a small amount of match time at the moment but they certainly have potential to be better, whilst Dyer has flattered to deceive for a couple of seasons now. Seeing as due to his age we'll almost certainly be letting Dyer go at the end of his current contract (and getting compensation or a fee if anyone else wants him) it makes perfect sense to give him the chance to impress somewhere else. FWIW, my biggest concern at the moment (now Cork has gone) is that we are AGAIN loading the squad with signings that don't improve the team, just like we did when we got relegated from the Prem. That seems to be a lesson Lowe hasn't learned, unlike the one about keeping a low profile. Pulis and Smith add nothing to the squad, never mind the team. I'm not just criticising Lowe and JP for the sake of it, i just don't believe in their tactics, even at the end of you post your criticising their transfer policy! Sorry I just don't see what they are doing right! Its all well and good saying Dyer is poor, but again I'd say that Lowe & JP were WRONG for signing him, not forgetting if he See's out his contract there will probably be no compensation as Dyer would be over the threshold age!! Just like Chelsea and Liverpool were under no pressure and strolled against Barnsley last season? Just like Chelsea strolled against Southend yesterday? Just like Man City were going to stroll against Forest at home yesterday? Just like Stoke strolled yesterday? Is this the first time coverage of the FA Cup has reached Northern Ireland or something? The OS can be guilty of stupid propaganda but a young player for the underdog team saying "the pressure isn't on us it's on the big club" is hardly crime of the century and certainly not "tosh". He's right. Saints aren't under any pressure whatsoever today. If we lost four nil no one will bat an eyelid.
