Arizona Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 There are strong arguments for both IMO. On the one hand we have about as much bite as a shoal of jellyfish up front. On the other hand Rudi has been very reliable in defence and we look likely to concede more goals if someone less experienced was playing there. For me it would be in the hole in Jan's current formation, playing just in behind Saganowski.
NickG Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 would try in hole.
Saint Bones Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 If this new lad is half solid at the LB position, it would be good to mix Surman and Rudi between left wing and 'in the hole' places. See which plays better. Mind you - we'd all love to see rudi pull out th eperformaces of a few season back prior to signing him

Saint Bones Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Errr. Holmes? Indeed. Damn injuries cloud my thinking... Prob one of our 'betters' this year. Nice dilema I guess..
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 As long as we have a competent LB, we should put Rudi in the hole to see if he can create and score some goals.
Arizona Posted 5 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Forward line of: - - Surman - Anderton - - Lallana - Skacel - Holmes - - - - Saganowski - - - - would do it for me. Sadly that doesn't include McGoalkick, so it wont happen.
krissyboy31 Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Seems to be more sensible ideas on selection and team formation on here, than are coming from the management team.

lordswoodsaints Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 if the new lad gets his chance i would like to see rudi playing left midfield with surman playing centre left midfield (his prefered position) the one he played yesterday. slickmick Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 I'd play him off the striker every time. Seems few others can strike a ball cleanly. He'd pick up a few goals and create more.. Lallana can play right, Holmes left. With Saga up front that's suddenly a very good front 4. Tenner says DMG will start the next game.
saint-ross Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Am i the only one who thinks Rudi needs a kick up the a**e. He seems to be becoming more and more lazy as time passes. Did anyone see on sunday where one of our lads (cant remember who tbh) dribbled almost straight into him as he just stood there, didnt find a supporting position or show any desire for the ball or to create anything. In the game against palace when our second goal was conceded, skacel could be seen marking no one, then shouting at one of our nippers to pick the man up, by which time it was too late. Skacel saw the danger he should have just dealt with it, not pass the buck. Just a couple of examples, but as one of the higher paid players he should be providing better service to the club. People talk about his potential and how we dont get the best from him. I think its his attitude more than anything else. Kelvin Davis can be quoted as naming him the laziest player in training also. Not the only one as I agree, a number of times this season I have found myself calling him a tired c* nt, 4 or 5 times yesterday, his simple inside balls left alot to be desired, putting our guys under pressure as they had to stretch to get the ball under their control
Chez Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Twenty says he starts the next 2. McGoldrick is the only striker on the books available isn't he?
aintforever Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Complete waste as a left back at a time when we can't buy a goal. He scored for fun in the Scottish Prem, always had alot of assists for us when in midfield. Any decent manager would have brought in a left back on loan or from the lower leagues for peanuts freeing up Surman and Skacel for the midfield but our donkey has wasted both of those as left backs this season. Chez Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 he doesn't look fit/sharp/mobile to me. His body language sucks and even his passing was poor yesterday.
Chez Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Saganowski, Euell and BWP are all available. You are quite right. Stinking cold is clouding my memory. I still do not understand why we are not starting with BWP up front.
Chez Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 What do people think of McLaggon? Looks more lively and pacey than DMG to me too. he has the pace, yet to find out if he has any composure in front of goal. Is he a winger rather than a striker? Andy_Porter Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 -------- Saga Holmes Skacel Surman - Schneiderlin Gillett Surman is too lighteight to play in the centre for me so i'd play him from the right and let him drift inside. Gillett isn't the best player but he's one of our few players who will do the dirty work so he's essential imo. Also it depends on how good the new LB is, if he's not as good as or better than Skacel then i'd play Skacel LB with McGoldrick, Lallana or Patterson upfront. krissyboy31 Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 What do people think of McLaggon? Looks more lively and pacey than DMG to me too. Similar to BWP maybe in style, but hopefully more composed. Saga has to play. There are a few options it seems. I thought he gave the Man U defence more problems in the short time he was on than DMG (and before him, Paterson) did the rest of the match.
