when he arrived we were told he paid his own compensation of £60K (75K EUROS) to his former club helmond sport.

im not sure what his current salary is?? i can only guess it wouldnt be much more than £100k so if he stays for a year, something he has done at 3 of his last 4 clubs (that he has managed) then effectively he has only earnt maybe £40k for the year.

perhaps he wants his money back before he decides to jack?

unless of course it was all lies and the club paid the compensation?

Isn't he on a low wage (£50K?) with big bonuses for promotion and progress in the FA cup?

When they were appointed, the OS made great play of the fact that both Poortvliet and Wotte had remuneration packages which were based on a relatively low basic rate, with large performance bonuses. There was no mention, of course, of what the basic rates might be; in fact, there wasn't even a hint at it.

However, do you really believe that Poortvliet left Helmond to take a lower-paid job? Or that he paid a year's worth of the higher salary (gross, at that) in order to take it? Would he really have felt so confident of success here that he'd have done all that? None of it adds up as far as I'm concerned. So I reckon that either (a) the club paid him for the compensation to Helmond; or (b) his basic salary's high enough to make it worth his while moving here and paying off Helmond.

It should have rung alarm bells in every fans head when it was announced he was prepared to pay his own compenation! It tells you that he knew he was on to a winner with saints and couldn't believe his luck that a team with more than a couple of thousand capacity wanted him! when rosey cheeks came a calling it must have been like winning the lottery ;)

...and when he's had tax and NI deducted he probably takes home (his English home) not much more than 25K. The real ****er is going to be when he gets sacked and finds out that when he changes it into Euros he can't afford a cab home (his dutch home) from the airport such is the exchange rate.:(
