So here is Wottes Profile / CV according to the official site.

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/team/?page_id=6587&player_id=157

Mark Wotte was appointed Head Coach on 23rd January 2009, following the resignation of fellow Dutchman Jan Poortvliet. He came tantalisingly close to landing the Saints job in December 2005 when George Burley was appointed instead. He holds a UEFA Pro Licence and played for Feyenoord and ADO The Hague before injury ended his career in 1986. Wotte ran the Dutch Olympic Under 21 side and was a technical director at Feyenoord. He likes to play the traditional Dutch attacking football, building from the back with a neat, technical passing game fired by talented young players who can outrun and outwork the opposition. He has an extensive track record of bringing on youngsters and great experience of organising academy structures.

Fact file

Mark Wotte played for Feyenoord and ADO The Hague before injury ended career in 1986.

Head-Coach: R.K.C. Waalwijk Premier League 2007

Al Ahli Doha Qatar 1st Division 2007-2008

I dont trust this info on the OS and feel it needs to be examined and expanded (sackings, promotions, etc) in detail. His Wikipaedia entry is very lacking, anyone know a better site or maybe we have some Dutch Football experts on here who can help?

Best I can do at this time of night, but looking at Wotte's record at the major clubs - it reads like this

The Eredivsie which the top league in Holland

The Eerstedivisie (now the Jupiler League) which is their 2nd division

91-92 FC Den Haag - Eredivisie 16th out of 18 - relegated

96-97 ADO Den Haag - Eerstedivise 8th out of 18

97-98 ADO Den Haag - Eerstedivisie 5th out of 18

98-99 FC Utrecht - Eredivisie 12th out of 18

99-00 FC Den Bosch - Eredivisie 18th out of 18 - relegated*

02-03 Willem II - Eredivisie 11th out of 18

03-04 Willem II - Eredivisie 7th out of 18

06-07 RKC Waalwijk - Eredivisie 17th out of 18 - relegated

* Wotte was only at Den Bosch for the last few months of the season, but appears couldn't help them

Unfortunately this doesn't bode well, he's had lots of practice at being relegated!!

As Paulsaint points out later - finishing 16th or 17th usually means a playoff for promotion/relegation - 18th is the only place that usually gets straight relegation (if my memory serves me correctly)

Found this:

"At the end of the season 2006/07, RKC Waalwijk were relegated from the Eredivisie after a defeat in play-offs against VVV-Venlo."

Please tell me that Wotte wasnt responsible for this too! Why the hell did Lowe want Wotte before turning to Burley- His record is Crap!

Found in an old Echo Archive:

"Alan Ball told the Daily Echo that Lowe would be "gambling with Saints' future" if he appointed Wotte as the club's ninth manager in eight years.

Wotte, meanwhile, has revealed that he was recommended to Saints by a former England Under-21 coach, believed to be former head coach and head of youth Steve Wigley, who is now the reserve team manager at Manchester City."

We are as they say Fooked!

Also found this, also not listed on his OS Profile?

"It had been a strange season for Roda JC. They sacked Belgian boss Georges Leekins early in the season despite that fact that he had seen them to European football for the last two seasons and appointed Mark Wotte who had recently resigned from his role at Vitesse Arnheim. This hadn’t been the most astute move by the Roda board and they were now battling to avoid relegation. "

Omission No. 1?????

His time at Den Bosch circa 2000 ending in relegation and financial meltdown.

Saint Martini, maybe you can throw some light on Wotte's involvement just prior to when Vloet/Poortvliet came in.

That CV actually looks ok, the thing at Den Bosch I think was that the club went into admin and couldn't afford Wotte anymore (or he didn't want to wreck his "reputation") and he left after which Poortvliet took over and got Den Bosch promoted.

The thing with Wotte is that he never manages to stay anywhere long and even though he has held higher profile jobs then Poortvliet I don't think he's a better manager. He just comes over a bit more sophisticated and has more smooth talk. It might work on the short term but I can guarantee you he will be gone with 1.5 years.

Wotte recommended by Wigley - two Rupert Lowe disasters for the price of one.

And to think we giggled at the club down the road when they appointed Alain Perrain and brought in 5' tall Japanese 'keeper.

We have the Dutch Duo and Ant Pulis!!

Didnt we also giggle when they appointed Adams from within after Recrap left. Just like us with Gray & Wigley I thought, it wont work. Lowe then does it again - I now believe that Lowe has a mental health issue or he wants us to go bust so he can buy us for 37p & a pack of Polo's?

To be fair, Wotte does have a lot more experience of coaching at the highest level then Wigley. I'm not sure if this is the same thing.

I understand that Wotte took over at Den Bosch in the middle of the season when they were in the top division.

By the end of that season, they were relegated and they had gone into administration.

Just hope lightning doesn't strike twice!!!!!!!!!

(I find it rather ironic that Jan's temporary role in stepping in for Vloet and earning promotion was bigged up on the OS, yet there is absolutely no mention of Wotte's role in relegation and administration the season prior).

Correct. All this talk about "his experience at a high level" refers to some of his past jobs, not his successes (there are none, which is why he is never anywhere long)
