Not strictly Hampshire related but Vince has had an absolute mare in the Hundred this year.  Most innings he hasn't even got into double figures.

He’s been rubbish tbh. Pity really as my nipper thinks he’s the bees knees.

was sat in front of a couple of people discussing the one day result yesterday and they thought it wasn’t on bringing Daws and Fuller back in for the 50 over game - not in the spirit of things.

Well, those people are entitled to their opinion but without Daws,Fuller  we wouldn't have won yesterday as likely as not. Hundred players who've finished their stint or aren't required are available according to the rules. I would stop at just playing them in the final though but if they've played in the campaign then they've earned their place. What is more we're really a bit short of players without them.  Vince on sunday, doubt it don't think he's contracted for anything but the T20 with us.

But I expect Albert and Dawson to play on sunday, must be a toss up between Fuller and Barker though.

For me, the side for sunday is: Orr,Gubbins,Middleton,Albert, Dawson, Brown (or Fuller) Mayes,Barker;Abbott,Neal and Jack.

Fuller played a couple of the group stage games, so there's nothing untoward with him being picked IMO. Dawson is a little bit more on the sly side, but if he's available and willing, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. Bit unfortunate for whoever misses out to fit him in, but it's a squad game these days.

Anyway they have to fit Dawson in somewhere with all the games he's missing on international duty. I think he would even miss the one day final on Sep 20 if Hants qualify.

Totally agree with all of that especially if they have played prior to 100 duties.

Just seen today's team. Seems very reliant on the openers, if they should go early and cheaply, the dynamic batting looks on the short side. Still dense on the bowling. We're batting first I think. Toss lost.

Brown proving once again that he's not a one-day batter if the bowling is anywhere near decent. Doesn't have the shots to score quickly enough. Out trying to hoik a straight one to the leg side. I might even have gone with Prest instead if Albert isn't available.

Middleton puts himself and the side under too much pressure,he faces far too many dot balls for a number 3 batter. I do get that someone has the sheet anchor role to play.

Well perhaps, but to be perfectly fair to the player, I don't think him batting at 3 was in the initial plan for this competition. Should be Prest after Tilly left but he's hopelessly out of form and Weatherly has a broken arm so he's a non-starter as well. We probably counted on Albert being more available as well and at the end of the day perhaps not changing a winning side came into play as well.

At the end of the day we've been heavily reliant on the openers, didn't happen today.

What a stunning innings from Dawson, brilliant.

This sort of total looked way out of reach earlier

Good effort from Currie as well, haven't seen him bat much before.

That said York's bowling seemed to degrade a fair bit. Perhaps the conditions or the balls or just getting tonked by Mayes,Dawson and Currie.

130 in 13 overs between Dawson and Currie, the last 5 overs were mental. Daws stepping wide of off stump and playing over fine leg for successive boundaries and scoring at 2 per ball in the partnership..

Well that was exceptional from the brilliant Liam Dawson and Scott Currie. Think the game is nw 50/50,the small boundaries and the terrible outfield will make it tough. Would love to eat more humble pie,but I doubt whether the most ardent Hants supporter thought we would end up with 304,after being 78 for 4  off 20 overs.

Risk losing this on D/L because Yorks are playing for that. They probably wouldn't match our total but we're not taking the wickets we need to boost our chances.

We have now, 213/8, 41 needed with 14 balls to go. If Imam was still there, might have still had a chance but not now. Barring a miracle we should be in the final v Worcs.

Tight bowling early on helped and Yorks didn’t have the Mayes and Currie contributions around Imam that we had around Dawson. People moan about the 💯 but look at how Currie’s game has come on and a lot of innovation by Dawson as well.

Dawson’s knock has to go do down as one of the great Hampshire innings surely? Brilliant to watch him, Mayes then Currie.

Get the fuck in

Dawson is a monster, so important

Still I hope they give the MoM to Currie. Good knock, bowled well, backed up to run out Ul Haq.

Think the second rain delay helped us, reduced their overs and upped the strike rate, went from 7 to over 8.

Fantastic win, maybe for once as Scott Currie said, D/L favoured us, but who the hell cares. As for LD, one of the best one day knocks that I have ever seen, especially coming in at 53 for 3,with the top 3 batsmen already out.

Sonny Baker's bowling getting murdered by Aiden Markram in the ODI.

Unsurprising, he's been erratic for Hants, good sometimes and awful on other occasions.

Shouldn't pick players on cartoon cricket performance cos a mish-mash of county players is no comparison to South Africa' s XI.

Think England haven't treated him that well in this.  He's played very little first class cricket, has been known to be erratic, yet they pick him to play against a top international side and ask him to open the bowling - in the power play - after the England batters had been skittled....

He should be debuting against Ireland if they have to fast track him...  Not against SA

Well up to a point. But as there was no way that England were going to win this match it made sort of sense to let him keep plugging away to see if there were any possible grounds to select him at any time in the near future.

There are far better and more consistent bowlers available than Baker and I doubt he'll be bowling much in the near future for England, well not against any serious batting side anyway.

This was just an old school tie, maybe selection.

On a different note, weather at Durham tomorrow doesn't look too bad, bit nippy in the evening perhaps.

Baker is not ready to play international cricket by a long chalk, however he was thrown under the bus by Harry Brook.    On a different topic great to see that Kyle Abbott has signed on for next year.

Just looked at the BBC score page to see if we'd bowled them out yet. Not only have we bowled them out, we're now seven down in our second innings. I can only assume they've had the rotivator on the wicket instead of the roller.
