Seems like we are just using our status and resources to help the group’s lesser clubs increase in value. Can’t believe some fans think this is a great thing .. it’s very unlikely to benefit us football wise and imo the key goal is just to increase the value of the other clubs to benefit the owners

Benefits of being part of the Sports Republic multi club model?

None thus far for Southampton FC.
the complete opposite it seems.

We've had three players out on loan to sister clubs this season. Gaining experience and value to benefit Saints. Plus allows us to get work permits for players that may struggle otherwise to get. Plus signed a very promising player from a sister club.

Did Juan need to go on loan to get a permit, MLG?  I can’t recall.

That's all been happening whilst we've endured the worst season we've ever had.

I'll reserve judgement if this is any good for us, at the moment it isn't and that's proven quite strongly by the two relegations and being one of the worst ever teams in Top Flight history.

At least Gotzepe did ok in the league though.

The point is to have a bigger pool of players who are able to generate value/profit.

If Juan turns into a player who can be sold for £5m its £5m extra on the books, which in the PSR world is massive. If Matsuki ends up playing for us next season its saved on paying a fee for someone. If neither happens we have barely lost a penny as they were cheap to acquire.

We see these days mid table sides buying young talents for £20m+ and loaning them out to develop. The idea is to find these players for less, sign them earlier and have somewhere to put them whilst their value increases or they meet WP criteria.

At this stage there has only really been one year of the model - since Goztepe got promoted.

Once Valenciennes make it back to Ligue 2 it will give another useful option - it all takes time to realise a benefit.

Nowadays its is so hard to make profits on academy players because the ones good enough to make a PL career tend to be poached before they make a debut (Gomes, Miles, Alleyne etc) and instead the poachers like City and Chelsea are the ones that profit.

This is our way of trying to compete. Whether it works or not who knows, but its too early to judge after basically one season of it in operation.

@S-Clarke its good Goztepe did well as means they stay playing at a decent level which clearly benefits the above. The fact we got relegated has zero to do with anything related to Goztepe.

It didn't cause our shit season. It is very little money and they've all increased in value.

So the real, tangible, clear benefits are ... ?

With all the money we have been pissing down the drain signing the likes of bazunu squad players  overpaying for archer and downes and many more I find it hard to celebrate some poxy profit here .chances of these guys coming to us and tearing it up seem unlikely too .. happy to be proved wrong though

Well, it didn't help it did it?

They've been in charge of us since 2021. Since then, we've been relegated twice, signed loads of absolute bloody garbage, and endured the worst season ever seen.

What we have given to Gozepte hasn't helped us a single iota, increasing in value is a moot point when all we want ourselves are good players as our squad it's self is horrific. I get the frustration from fans when they see us aiding the squad depth and quality of other teams, yet having to watch us with BBD lumbering down the wing.

One of the benefits I potentially saw from the model is being able to get first dibs on the 'star' players from those clubs, and give them a platform. But we can't even do that, as we've been relegated so their best players won't even join us.

Southampton loaned us their worst player on paper, Göztepe benefited from nothing, Göztepe could have directly bought Juan for 800 thousand euros. The benefit you imagine is very utopian.

Don't worry, we've got worse players on grass - you can have them next.

Try looking longer term than only the current season. All 4 of Traoré, Kayi Sanda, Juan and Matsuki have all gained experience and value. For relatively little outlay. Sure it didn't help us stay up this season, but nor is it the reason we went down. It may help us stay up next time to have players like them closer to readiness for the 1st team.

Or are you suggesting we never do anything for the medium or long term?
