The club were.

However "utterly shit" we were last season, we finished eleven places higher in the league than Middlesbrough, we bought one of their best players and spent lots of money on others.

I don't get why they get to be considered for promotion and we don't.

I think this is why Will is on thin ice now. Going to take a sudden clicking of the new players and a run of wins to keep his job which I cannot see for the life of me.

If you look at the top 6, half of them have managers who are on the same number of games as Still.

So you can't really use the "Rome wasn't built in a day" stuff when the likes of Bristol City and Middlesbrough are doing OK in the same time frame.

I think you do have to take into consideration the amount of change though, we did change up a lot and lost a lot - most in the last few weeks of the window as well. And the guys we've been left with, Downes, THB, Stephens, Manning etc are seemingly carrying some horrendous hangovers from last year. Downes and THB in particular look totally shot.

Boro/Bristol City are somewhat stable squad wise, they know what they've got and the manager has been able to go in and work with that.  And their managers haven't come into a club on the back of such an abomination of a season.

To be fair to Still, he spent most of the summer with no real idea of what his squad would look like and it's been chop and change since.

He now has a squad that's somewhat stable, but it's only been here 3 or so weeks really (and an international break bolted in the middle). Let's see where we are come end of October/start of Nov for a much fairer view IMO.

That's where I'm sitting right now.

Didn’t seem that fussed post-match either similar to Redknapp considering he just got a hiding at a team heavily tipped for relegation. Was on slightly thin ice after the no-show at home to Pompey and much thinner again after today. I think he’ll just put it down to Saints being a basket case needing new owners who know what they’re doing and get another job by November probably overseas again.

The usual meaningless drivel from Stephens at the other end of the spectrum. Fair play to anyone who is willing to build their weekend around watching these jokers. Turkish and his son are probably in the image somewhere hopefully giving a range of wanker, v-signs or middle fingers at him.

He fucking does say it all the time - the last 20 away games at the very least. He might as well just send it to the press via ChatGPT.

Not sure but we're only 6 games in and only 2 games in with 4 new signings who were signed to be starters. Personally, given how utterly shit we were last season I would give him all of this season regardless, I'm not expecting to be promoted.

We've got one of the best squads in the division, and more spending power than most, so why would that logically lead anyone to not expect us to be promoted?

The bookies had us down for automatic promotion, the club's stated aim was to go straight back up, most fans (both Saints and non-Saints) expected us to be promotion candidates, Uncle Tom Cobbly expected us to be promoted...

Doesn't matter who’s next, but if he know that Captain Jack isn’t a footballer, then he is the right one. Haven’t seen someone like that in years.

Throw in that he immediately recognises that Baz isn't a goalkeeper and he'll be perfect.

Agree the club should act now to avoid another miserable season and salvage some credibility. No more left field appointments with potential. Someone who has won promotion to the premier league like Dyche, Jakanovic or Bilic, or has come close like Mark Robins. Rohl and Carrick have Championship experience but haven't got close enough to promotion.

He also wouldn’t have his assistant manager with him (current Sheff Weds manager) who according to some of their fans was the brains behind the operation.

Isn't that what people said about Ralph while Rohl was his assistant manager? And indeed Erwin about Ronnie! Maybe we need to be focusing more on assistant manager recruitment

He sums up everything that is wrong with us.

Rewarding failure and accepting mediocrity. It's no wonder we are 20th in the second tier.

For a captain and someone who is 'good around the place', he seems to have a pretty crap ability to 'galvanize' the group in game or out of game. He's worthless as a player and even less influential as a Captain.

Up with Bazunu, these two inclusions are club decisions and they stink.

I was very drunk last night and trying to play down my disappointment. I do expect us to be challenging for promotion, but at the same time I believe in what I've seen and heard from Will Still and would be willing to give him next season if we didn't go up, depending on how the rest of this season goes. More than anything I just want some stability and consistency for once.

Out of interest, what have you seen from Still to give him that level of trust? He talks a good game for sure but he’s been average at best in our good games and abject in the bad. I am really struggling to see what he is even trying to do, everything seems panicked and ill thought out in my view.

I'm going by what I've seen from his other teams as well. From what I've seen here, the players letting us down are the ones that have been shit for us for a few years. With that in mind I'd be more than willing to give him next season and another transfer window to replace the likes of Bazunu, Stephens, Manning, Downes, THB etc.

To play devil’s advocate, those are reasons that justify Still not being very good so far and I agree with those.

Personally I haven’t seen anything from Will Still himself that suggests he is going to be good for us based on the games he’s managed. He might be, but if he is it will be a complete departure from how he’s managed us so far.
