Would we have won the league with Ramsdale and Onuachu?

The PL is better than the Turkish top flight. No shit. How does the Championship compare with the Super Lig?

I hated the signing at the time and was glad when he left, but it doesn't mean he wouldn't have scored a few goals in the championship if he had stayed. Not sure I can blame him for departing. It's not as though we [the managers after Jones had been sacked] made him terribly welcome

Juric tried building the team around him and Sulemana btw. How does it compare? Not sure, never watched it. But I did watch Onuachu play for Saints, in a Saints shirt, at St Mary’s, against opposition that Saints played, in competitions Saints played in so I do have a fairly good grasp of how that would go and don’t need to hypothetically dream up situations in which Onuachu is playing for Saints, in a Saints shirt, at St Mary’s against opposition that Saints played in competitions Saints play in to work out how he’d get on.

None of those 40 games in the Championship

None of his 18 goals in 21 games this season have been in the Championship either, have they?

The entire thread is hypothetical and the counter argument is that Armstrong looked shite in a Saints shirt at SMS against PL opposition, while he looked pretty good in a Saints shirt at SMS in the championship.

that said, I'm inclined to agree with you. Terrible first touch, slow, no stamina, shit in the air...I really wanted to be watching someone else other than him lead our attack and was glad he departed and we could try again.

Nope, and I didn't say they were. I was simply pointing out his record in the PL isn't relevant to how he'd do in the Championship.

Well done for getting the point so quickly.

We may have had better, but not many. I think fans undervalued him last season because we still conceded a shit load of goals. In my opinion he looked a top class keeper. A lot better than McCarthy and Forster. His speed off his line was impressive, as were his reactions. He made some mistakes, but he faced a barrage at times, with a clueless pathetic defence in front of him.

Hard to say on the points front. Our poor start was more of a collective issue, not just down to the keeper, but you can only play 11, and if one or two are not pulling their weight, it has an impact. The fact is, he was never going to play in the championship, he's too good for this level, so the discussion is a bit futile.

TBF confidence comes into it and it was low for everyone, perhaps he never had a chance. I understand your view, but personally was very disappointed.

I remember Shilton and how he added to our points with his individual brilliance and maybe expected an England international keeper to do the same.

I would rate, just quick gut feeling, Shilton, Niemi, Forster (in his peak for us but not always), Flowers as keepers who really made a difference - more than he did.

Did he do any better than Boruc, Jones and Beasant did for us? Probably not

I watched that too, and I remember him scoring 4 goals and getting an assist while Juric was here in 8 starts and 4 short sub appearances, ending up as our (admittedly disappointing) top scorer for the season. Imagine how many he'd have got if we'd built the team around him all season, eh?

How well Larin has done has only reinforced my view that Onuachu would have been massively effective for us in this league and ended up with over 20 goals. People are forgetting this is the league that players like Ade Akinbiyi got 39 goals in and Steve Howard got 29 goals in.

Don't even need to look beyond us to compare Armstrong's record between championship and prem.
