Toadhall Saint Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Looking forward to today! Hopefully 3/3 with Middlesex playing last night so us being a day fresher. I’d CV like to see Vince get a few after the last couple of “knocks”.

Window Cleaner Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Middlesex are absolutely rubbish. Probably only need to make 100 or so. 1
Lighthouse Posted May 31 Posted May 31 It didn’t really cost us anything but f**k me, that ‘run out’ was one of the worst bits of umpiring I’ve ever seen. The batter might as well have been at the ice cream van he was that far out. 2
Gloucester Saint Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Decent start at 10 an over, can’t see that total causing us undue issues. Should be finished early and get down the M3.

I watched Warks v Northants (latter won after a marvellous 115 no from former Hants overseas batter Lynn). Surrey were undone by Jake Lintott who took 4 wickets for very few runs (ex-Hants and Brave, bowls Chinaman eg left arm leggie). Warks let him go, have brought in Pakistan mystery spinner Usman Tariq and blooded a youngster but are also on a terrible run having lost the ability to take wickets in the middle overs.
Lighthouse Posted May 31 Posted May 31 It’s a shame Tuesdays forecast is guaranteed rain, as Sussex really are nothing to write home about.

Their line up does but the scores don’t. Sibley has far more shots than he used to have, and if he batted through at just over a run a ball others could slog around him. But not using him in the Blast so far.

Lighthouse Posted Tuesday at 15:48 Posted Tuesday at 15:48 Not rained for a couple of hours now, with a fair bit of direct sunshine to help dry the pitch and not much of anything heading this way on the radar. Hopefully we get our full 40 overs in and don’t end up getting screwed by DLS in some way.
Window Cleaner Posted Tuesday at 18:33 Author Posted Tuesday at 18:33 Game started, batting first, Albert out first over I think.

Gloucester Saint Posted Tuesday at 19:36 Posted Tuesday at 19:36 135/5 with 4 to go. Dawson 52 no. 10 an over the aim = 175. Could be competitive.
Window Cleaner Posted Tuesday at 20:26 Author Posted Tuesday at 20:26 If we do not stop bowling short we may well lose.
Gloucester Saint Posted Tuesday at 21:08 Posted Tuesday at 21:08 41 minutes ago, Window Cleaner said: If we do not stop bowling short we may well lose. Should be ok from here, Wood decent, Manny slightly short, Currie and Fuller crap, Dawse very good, on for MOTM with his 50.
Lighthouse Posted Tuesday at 22:51 Posted Tuesday at 22:51 Well, if you showed me the two power play scores and asked me who was going to win, I’d have lost money. After their openers fell they had nothing. If we hadn’t dropped their tenth wicket partnership a couple of times, they could’ve been done for even less. 1
Picard Posted Wednesday at 05:02 Posted Wednesday at 05:02 Albert has renewed his contract for two more years. I think Prest is also in last year of his contract - not so sure it will be renewed. 1

Tom Prest is incredibly frustrating - at least was getting starts earlier in this season but not even getting those in white ball. Had plenty of opportunities too. Might get one year on squad wages which might be the kick up the backside he needs. Or start again at one of the smaller East Midlands counties.

When we get relegated having Prest in Div 2 would be good
Gloucester Saint Posted Wednesday at 17:56 Posted Wednesday at 17:56 7 minutes ago, John B said: When we get relegated having Prest in Div 2 would be good Tom Prest is an interesting case. He’s a bit loose outside 5th stump at times, as Vince and Zak Crawley were at test level. But his technique overall is quite compact and he has the shots as he showed when he first broke into the One Day Cup side a few years ago with aplomb. I can only comment on what I see, someone at the club must know why he’s plateaued then gone backwards. Early season in red ball the start 30s and 40s were there, then he’d find a really daft way to get out. Few of the dismissals were genuinely good balls unlike some of the ones Gubbins and Dawson got. Now he’s not even getting those in T20 and it’s a cruel format if he gets stuck in a rut. Sports psychologist may be another option 1-1. Rod said in pre-season that the club felt he was on the ‘Bethell fast track’ a couple of years ago and they were hoping Domingo might understand better how to get him out of a stagnation and signs of what indeed have proved to be a decline. I wouldn’t release him but offer a contract with a few levels/markers within it to help get the momentum back.
Window Cleaner Posted Friday at 17:31 Author Posted Friday at 17:31 No Vince or Prest. Orr and Lehmann replace them Batting first.
Window Cleaner Posted Friday at 19:05 Author Posted Friday at 19:05 How bad is Surrey's bowling! What happened to Worrall and the West Indian they had?
badgerx16 Posted Friday at 20:46 Posted Friday at 20:46 (edited) After the first 2 balls of Lumsden's last over I thought we had blown it, but he came back well and held his nerve. Evening Major. Edited Friday at 20:46 by badgerx16 1
Hodgey Posted Friday at 20:46 Posted Friday at 20:46 What a game that was. Lumsden will learn a lot from that, I guess Wood didn’t really have a choice given lack of other bowlers but I felt he rotated them well. Currie again excellent and Dawson got a massive wicket in Jacks. Puts us in a great place at the halfway point. Good balance in the team at the moment. Next - championship game against Surrey - not that confident there. 1

Gloucester Saint Posted Friday at 22:05 Posted Friday at 22:05 Evening Major! Watched the Roses T20 in the pub and Yorkshire hammered Lancashire by over 100 runs which in this format is a massacre. Fair to say the Headingley crowd enjoyed themselves!

Gloucester Saint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Hampshire won the toss and bowling at an overcast Oval. The teams https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/e-233517 Not too bad a side with Lehmann, Orr back in at 3, Prest at 5 which isn’t so promising but hopefully this is the game he emerges from his slump. Batting fairly deep with Organ at 8 and Fuller at 9. Could find it hard to get 20 wickets but at least England released Baker to play (and Fisher for Surrey).
Gloucester Saint Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 3 down for just over 100 at lunch. Probably slightly sub-par with how green the pitch was but behaving better with more consistent bounce than the pitch at Lord’s albeit quite a bit of sideways movement on offer.
Hodgey Posted 57 minutes ago Posted 57 minutes ago Oval is a decent batting pitch, but our lack of genuine accurate pace (yes Baker could be this but he’s very green) or mystery spin means once a ball is worn and batsman in, it’s all similar fare. Our spinning dept is extremely weak without Dawson. I’d expect a Surrey score of 400 plus here, we need to actually bat well for once in the first innings to have any hope here. At least we are decent in the slug fests !! Taking a step back I’m just not sure where Hampshire go from here. As it stands they look like a Div2 make up the numbers kind of team. Might be best for all concerned to take the hit this year with a total rebuild next. Albert doesn’t look like a 4 day opener to me, Prest may make it as a one day player but not in 4 day, Organ definitely isn’t a front line spinner (appreciate they may have been caught out with Dawson retirement - but surely they saw this coming), we don’t seem to know what to do with Orr, Middleton has been totally exposed this season and most of last, Abbot can’t last forever - what is the succession plan etc etc. Then again, with the lack of money in 4 day do Hampshire really care ?.
