Finally made 214. Seemingly the toss is décisive in these September conditions. A couple of our early outs did nothing wrong really but the first 10 overs or so are tough going, even with dobbers like Holland, if it's straight and does a bit off the wicket batting becomes a lottery. Then it gets much easier. 1

A couple of fairly adjacent looking lbw décisions didn't go our way and the bowlers concerned looked a bit discouraged after. But those decisions are impossible to tell without the video. Can’t see the side being competitive in any competition for a good few years.

Lost so many top category players with Dawse white ball only, Turner retirement and the OOCs, we should be able to sign a lot of new players and chance for the owners to show their mettle. And FFS, get two genuinely good overseas players. Not second string Saffer crap or middle aged Kiwis who weren’t any good in the first place and not charged with serious offences. Lower-middle order at best and he’ll be a tail ender in a couple of years. Not much difference to if they kept Felix Organ who isn’t FC standard either but at least used to be able to bowl a few more overs of filth. Hants don’t need more glorified tail enders who can bowl a few overs. Knock yourself out v New Milton etc in the Southern League. Need several genuine top and middle order players please and we should have the scope and budget to do so with all of the retirements and out of contract. Prest, Organ, Gubbins et all, out of contract, move on from them all. I’d have said Ben Brown too had Giles White not been a dickhead and given him a new contract. The likes of Mayes is worth a gamble in D2 in a side with more experience and quality by batting lower, learn his trade at #7 or #8. Well I have absolutely no idea of exactly what will happen but I really doubt that Gubbins will be released. In my view he'll either open with Patel or return to #3 next season. Might even bé captain if they décide on change.
