Looking to do a couple of weeks in Sri Lanka with the wife and kids next March/April - I was wondering if any of you have done it and any tips?

We're planning on doing Galle > Yala > Ella > Kandy > Negombo and try to use private drivers/trains for travelling between areas.

Good shout Farmer, I'm also looking to do Sri Lanka in the next couple of years so will interesting to see the responses. I'd like to see a bit of the wildlife in Sri Lanka, the safari we did last year makes me want to see more wildlife.

Where did you go for a safari? Nothing like seeing animals in their natural environments IMO. We did Kenya and Tanzania a long time ago, it was fantastic.

Tanzania, absolutely loved it, highlight was a Cheetah jumping on the back of the vehicle about a metre from me. Would love to see Gorillas in the wild one day.

I was under the impression that Sri Lanka was a bit of a no-go country at the moment, or have things calmed down a bit there now? Was always on our short list but got demoted because of supposed travel risks....

I've got a mate who works there, and comes back periodically. He doesn't have a bad word to say about it.

fabulous mate. We did 7 days through Kenya and Tanzania, went to Tsavo East and west, Serengenti, Ngorgoro Crater which was amazing. Saw all the big 5 did a hot air balloon ride in the Serengeti, it was the best holiday i've ever done by some distance.

Cheers.... Good to know.... I think this info on the government travel advice website is probably what I had in my head... But those 'troubles' date back to 2022...

Was there in February, had a fabulous holiday however it's suffering at the moment from the situation in the gulf.

Maybe give it a while until the orange man - baby has finished his stuff.

Still in contact with the tour guide that we had. According to him there's fuel shortages leading to a reduced working week for many locals enforced by the government. He's done one other tour since we returned in early Feb and has had no work since then due to reduced tourism.

Not sure if the tourist reduction is due to the shortages or air travel though the gulf region. Hope it all works out for you as it's a fantastic place full of genuine friendly people.

Cheers - interesting info and sad to hear that, as always, it's the poor countries that always get fucked over first.

Fingers crossed as we'll be going nearly a year from now that won't be an issue.
