Decent sounding budget so far.

Completely agree. A lot for business and entrepreneurs in there as well, although will need to read it more detail. Should stop some brain drain though.

My MP, although useless and doesn't live near here, is also doing her best comedy routine as Deputy Speaker.

Can’t see the obvious angle that the Mail and Telegraph will be wailing about. Our resident half-wit will probably be waiting for a Lowe tweet before he chimes in as most measures will be far too complex for his wee brain to comprehend. No doubt Healey is a Marxist

I think they'll go down Kemi's route on borrowing/benefits, but not sure that's what they should hit them with.

This is difficult for the Tories, as from a business side it's quite a "right" budget.

I'm always amazed at the total amnesia exhibited by the opposition when bemoaning such things as the level of defence spending, given their abject failure to address this when in power

Yep. Markets don't mind it either -FTSE up, 10 year bond yields down.

I think it was pretty cautious, but given what he's got to work with, it was better than I expected.

With the current uncertainty I would be kicking the can down the road until next year to see where we are then, whilst improving some of the business environment in the time-being.

Making sweeping changes with the world as it is now is madness.

I haven’t done the ‘how the budget impacts you calculator’ so yet to see which way I am £1.17 better or worse off.  Glad they canned fucking around with the ISA limits

Agreed, and that's pretty much what it was. The little raid on the banks was well balanced imo, although the blanket energy gift wasn't the best way to use the money.  I'd liked to have seen something on fuel duty instead.

Yep, that was pointless. People would have used short term money market funds as a workaround so binning it makes sense.

I thought this was easy to get and half the population were claiming?

Terminally ill mum who can't talk, walk or dress herself refused Pip payment https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckqxndjqdddro

I was going to post similar. I don't know anyone who gets PiP who wasn't refused initially, then on review, and only got it on appeal. All meritorious claims. In my experience it's nonsense to suggest that it's easy to claim.

The issue for me is that it isn't means tested - nuts that people get it on health entitlement but don't need the money - and shove the money into a SIPP or ISA.

Has anyone looked at investing in UK gilts?

Looked at, yes, but not yet. I want to build a bond ladder but won't at the moment. I diverted some stock a few weeks ago to short term money market, GEAR funds, and Cat bonds. Glad I did.

He’s rowed back on a couple of Reeves badly thought plans which is good news. Bit of a non event budget but a little help for some small businesses is welcome.
