SW11_Saint Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Interesting piece on Leicester City's resurgence under Nigel Pearson. Couple of quotes really stood out (paraphrased from memory): Alan Birchenall (ex-player and club ambassador) - "He has the same presence as Martin O'Neill had here... when he walks in a room he commands respect". Lee Dixon - "interesting what they were saying about him in the dressing room... he's like that when you meet him... he has something about him". What a great appointment for them. Well worth the 'extortionate' wages I am sure.
SP Saint Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Clearly you couldn't have two people like that in the same room though. Rupert and Nigel I mean. Obviously the lesser person had to go.

sadoldgit Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 He has gone, move on. Do you still fret after your first playground love? McMenemy had that presence but is hated at Sunderland. Good luck to Pearson at Leicester but right now we need to get behind Wotte.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 I fear this will go down as Lowe's worst managerial decision ever. Yes SOG he has gone - and we continue to live with the consequences...

Shame to let him slip through our fingers, and embark on another bizarre gamble, still what's another couple of managers paid off eh? I will get behind the team, but reserve judgement on Wotte. From what I have seen has little of the gravitas of Pearson, and none of the humility. We'll see...
skintsaint Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 be interesting to see how Pearson does with Leicester in this league rather than one division down.

Perhaps Leicester and he are made for each other? maybe he would have done well here but on what he acheived in 13 matches I don't see why he is still seen as some lost genious. We need a good English manager not another Dutch reject who even Rupert considered second best to Poorto. I'm afraid Mr Wotte ain't going to be our saviour. But I don't really see what his nationality has to do with it. Plenty of foreign coaches seem to be doing okay in the Premiership don't they? It because he is doing so well at Leicester that many think what could have been here, yes lets see how he will do next season. But judging by reports of him he has some characteristics I would love a Saints manager to have. IMHO is would have been really interesting to see how would have got on at Saints this season. Yes it would have been. By now it would have been a reasonable time to judge him at our club. Whether he could have done better with the resources available to JP and Wotte though we shall never know.

We need a manager who knows something about the teams we're up against and has the necessary contacts and knowledge when it comes to bringing in new players on loan or otherwise (if we make it to next season). My wild guess is that Rupert won't be able to attract any foreign Premeirship coaches here.

There is no reason why a foreign coach can't be successful in the CCC. Let us hope we have found one who can be! People don't work in isolation. At every club there are a team of people who are involved in bringing in new players etc.

I don't think anyone sees him as a "lost genius" - just a genuine, hard working coach with good experience of the English leagues and who, however close, kept us up last year and seemed to have won the fans over and had built the foundation of something potentially promising. Of course, then along comes dear old Rupert - kicks it all away, and inflicts yet another "revolutionary" scheme on us. Ho hum.
