eelpie Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/7953616.stm Not really Saints related I know, but it is of general interest to know that the caravan will remain in-situ. I have good and bad memories of being there. The best was the 'inflatable haddocks'. The worst was Killer's injury that afternoon, and the defeat that imo began our slide out of the Premiership. Any stories?
SFKA South Woodford Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 Yes, I remember those cruel b*stards, playing 'Show me the way to amarillo' over and over again on the tannoy to all of us locked inside that dump for over an hour, after the game in the relegation season. I think we should all get together and bring a civil action against the skates for intolerable cruelty.

wild-saint Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 About the 6th thread on this in the last 2 days... Long way to go to beat the number of threads in a day on whose to blame for the mess that saints are in.

Any stories? We were sliding out of the PL before that defeat. I just cannot decide if it dawned on me that afternoon we werent going to survive, or the Boro or Villa matches at home... 70's Mike Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 worst moment as a saints fan for me in 49 years of support, locked in listening to them take the p*ss. Had to tell my 2 sons it was character building and they would appreciate the good days when they return , thing is i lied the good days have not returned
SaintRobbie Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 Best bit that day was the inflatable skates we got and the row of fans who had one letter per inflatable with: 'Y O U S K A T E B A S T A R D S !' Brilliant! The other one was the banner we unveiled behind the goal with 'Pompey full of sailors and *****rs in the streets!' Whenever the highlights were on afterwards (well lowlights!) the camera panned around it so you couldnt see it! Song of the day was 'Oh Matthew Taylor - he used to **** the sailors but its Will Young now' Bad loss - good day!

Spudders Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 I lol'd at the old man shouting abuse from has balcony at us all as we were marched past his flat on our way to the ground, at which point his was showered with abuse and coins Bit of a bummer hearing the first goal go in before we'd even made it to the ground. Also remember the old bill videoing us all on our way in, but then getting the arse with someone who was filming them back!

But the fans were great and at least there was a little hope when Camara scored and the Skates went quiet! Worst player that day for me was Niemi - he was ****ting himself. It wasnt Niemi that lost us that game .Claus was ****ting himself so much he had to go on a bender for two days before that Game.We were let down big time by our captain. One reason i did not attend his testimonial. He spent most of that year in Jacks in Leisure world and he really needed the toilet a lot.

sidthesquid Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 It was all my fault - I'd been to every Fartton Park game since 74 or 75 (whenever we first met them in Div 2) & saw us win every time, but didn't go in 2005. Can't remember why. Best memory was Moran scoring right in front of us with about a minute to go in 84 & walking back through the sh~*tty streets of Fratton to the coaches as the Sk8tes tried to get through the police who had blocked off every street. Scary but fun

I do have a deep-suppressed recollection of the Skates singing "a version" of it at us for a large chunk of the second half, and the song is still banned in my presence for that reason alone, but the only songs heard after the match were Saints fans singing stuff like "you're supposed to be at home" to the empty stands to entertain ourselves on a day that couldn't have been much worse. I didn't see the abuse or coins as I was running to the turnstile (and got in JUST before the penalty, we must have been on the same train/slow moving convoy), but I did hear a chorus of "Oh Teddy Teddy, Teddy Teddy Teddy Teddy Sheringham" with a lot of pointing at the old geezer in his window when we were stuck in the street afterwards !
