I'm guessing 50k means the difference between going into liquidation on 4th May or the 11th at the moment. While we're searching for a buyer that could be all the difference in the world!

If it goes to a tribunal to set the compensation, we will be lucky to see the money before next season though.

That money will probably go to Bournemouth for the Matt Patterson debt

AFAIK, transfer fees don't work that way. All the money goes via the Football League for transfers where both parties are in the Football Leagues. That's why I'm confused as to why Bournemouth have not received their money. Maybe it's to do with their status rather than ours.

I doubt that we owe Notts County 250K.If we did the FC would now be in deep

sh*t.If in fact we owe 2 clubs 300K as stated the FL would have already docked us points because the FC is obviously not solvent.

This is the article on the web i found about the money owed to Notts County

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/sport/Notts-McGoldrick-Best-cash/article-867113-detail/article.html

NOTTS County will still get all of the cash they are owed by Southampton, said chairman John Armstrong-Holmes today.

The Saints are in financial meltdown in the wake of their holding company going into administration.

The Magpies are still owed money by the Championship club from the transfer of David McGoldrick in 2005.

They were due a six-figure sum at the start of February because of an appearances clause in the 21-year-old's contract when he left Meadow Lane for St Mary's.

Notts are also still owed a final five-figure sum from the south coast club for Leon Best, as part of a sell-on clause in the Coventry City striker's contract when he joined the south coast club in July 2004.

Armstrong-Holmes said the Magpies' money is protected.

He said: "It is ring-fenced by the Football League so we will get every penny.

"I don't know when we will get it but we will.

"The problems at Southampton will have no effect at all.

"The Football League is due to distribute money to every club in the League this month and they will take money out of Southampton's share and give it to parties they owe money to.

"It's far from ideal that we didn't get the money when it was due but we are managing without it as best we can."

Also the Nottingham Evening Post ran an article on this.

Yes I've already seen that, used in a quote yesterday when I was posting about how Bournemouth were to get money owed by us direct from the league. 6 figures is anywhere between 100K and 999K999

I don't question the existence of the debt just the amount.

Title is slightly wrong.

Interesting to see how that draft thing works over there, I assume it's every American player without a contract who is entered.

yes and i believe the worst teams get the first picks of the youth pool so to speak.

I actually think it's a good idea, keeps things interesting instead of the big 4 snatching up all the decent players.

They'd still get the best players, they'd just get a better look at their true ability if the most promising youngsters were playing first team football for a couple of years.

Yeah but i wouldn't disagree with that in the slightest. IMO if we had something like the american draft we would probably see a better standard of youth players coming out of the leagues.

It would allow them to stay and get some first team football under their belts and not stifle development.

It's part of the 'collegiate' system. They don't have academy's as such, the players go to college and play for the college untill they complete their course or want to go into the draft. I'm guessing all other americans out of contract go into the draft aswell.

20 and no first team games doesn't look good. But then Cranie and Mills were overlooked too.

Interesting to see if he makes it over there. Good luck to him.

mmm, but the other lads in the draft will be about 21 or more as underclassmen

are rare in US collegiate drafts. There are exceptions but to enter before having complete senior year you have to have "redshirted" which means you started later than the others in order to be able to participate for longer.

It's a very complex system.

I'd like to say "why would we not have offered him a new deal if was all that" but the quality members of the youth set up (Prost et al) are long gone so this concerns me. Letting Baseya get anywhere near the end of his contract without offering a new one puts more than enough doubt in my mind that we do not have the right staff in place.

Cool - will have to make a point of watching the MLS next time Real Salt Lake play and see if Southampton gets a mention.

At present I don't think there are any Saints related players at all in the MLS. Anyone know of any?
