The few players that HAVE put in enough effort

....need to realise that we appreciate it on Saturday.

Imo, Kelvin, Size, Perry, James (?) and Gillet (if he was playing) deserve a good reception on Saturday for actually playing with some pride.

If they have the guts to do a lap of honour at the end of the game, then everyone should just treat it as a "lap of Kelvin appreciation"

We've not ended up here because our players haven't run about enough , we are were we are (ignoring off the field matters for a moment) because many of them just weren't that good in the first place - or more succiently they lack the strength of character necessary to perform under pressure . Mark Wotte's apparent failure to get them up for it is also a significant factor .

Good choice Scott. I believe the rest just got fed up with being told to run around in ever decreasing circles to no effect by different guv'nors.

I know the current fashion is to knock our players at every opportunity, and most of them deserve it. But let's hear it for Chris Perry. Our best outfield player this season by a long way IMHO, always given 100% effort. To put in the amount of hard work he has done, at his age, and on a wage that must be a pittance compared to his Spurs/Charlton days, is a testament to his fitness and passion for the game.

Its not just about the players though. Its about the system they're being asked to play. It's not worked consistently from day one. OK, we've had a couple of good wins, but it's not enough against teams that change to suit the opposition...i.e. not good enough against teams that have strong management and coaching staffs. Look at the difference between JP and Wotte - same squad, but Wotte decided to put 2 up front and hey presto we start scoring and winning some games. It was the same last year when Pearson came in and turned a crap squad into an OK squad. Water under the bridge now, but if only Wotte had had the balls to change the midfield too when needed, we might not have suffered some of the awful loses this season.

you people make me laugh, effort doesn't make up for skill, which we have lacked all season.

if a brain surgeon let you give him a hand, you could try all you liked, but would be useless.

99% of players try, look at davis, our own fans booing him, now its super kelv, two faced or what??

oh yes and matt was called lazy, but was arguably our greatest player

Good point. I wish none of them bothered trying at all

As we'll be League 1 next season whatever the outcome of a (possible) appeal over the 10-point deduction - I'm already looking at a few faces that should do well in that division next season.

Leaving aside any new manager & whoever he brings in of course (in the way of fresh players - if any) - the likes of James, Gillet, Mills, McLaggon & Jake Thomson should do well as long as they have a couple of experienced old heads around them. That's assuming that A. they want to stay - and B. no-one puts offers in for them in the summer of course.

I'm very worried about starting with minus 10 points though. A 'big ask' to bounce straight back up ala Foxes style with such a handicap. Still - I'm just a fan of the club I've supported for 38 years now & I'll be happy to just have the club still functioning!

The only players in the team who deserve to wear red and white next season for me are:

KD

Perry

Size (as a sub)

Gillett

DMG... rescued his reputation at the end.

Maybe Holmes and James as a bench player.

The rest? Cheerio.

Saga, Skacel, Surman I'm love to keep in League 1 but no chance, they're off and prostituting themselves already.

The Coach Wotte... must never grace SMS again.

Well, for a start, next season hopefully the players will have a proper pre-season, where they actually get fitness and stamina work, instead of the bollix philosophy of getting 'fitness with the ball'.

Three things we have been lacking this season is pace (the only player we have with any pace is on loan at Swansea), fitness (see above) and confidence (most of that was shattered early season by flooding the team with players that were not ready). I don't actually buy, the lack of effort, nor the lack of talent (at this level), IMO we have been crap because of what we have lacked (as listed) and extremely bad management.

If it came down to limited finances I would certainly keep what we had and spend every penny we had on replacements for those who have to leave and most of all on a MANAGER.

I agree that a decent manager may turn the defeated kids around. Still prefer a full clear out though.

Soon as possible!

actually professor adrian i know about football ta, i've read your rantings before, but i bet i saw mat play more times than you, at all levels. i didn't say he should have worked harder, he was a fantastic player without the headless chicken bit. the thread is about effort ffs, read my letter again please, after all we are saints fans , i rarely post, but you are quite argumentative aren't you, then insulting, no need for it at all is there.

if someone says something you don't like, just reply in a normal way, not in an insulting way, after all i just gave my opinion, which i value, maybe you don't.

Bobby Robson said there are two basic mentalities of footballer, and in the ideal outfield team you need five of each.

Type 1 are passive, taking up positions, waiting for a pass, marking space and using their head. These we have loads of.

Type 2 are aggressive, charging into tackles, making things happen. These we have very few of.

The point is that type 2 are not inherently better than type 1it's just that the ratio has been way off.
