Exeter City

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Exeter on their back-to-back promotions, which will mean next season -assuming Saints still exist - we'll be playing them next season.

Paul Tisdale has done a great job there and, having spoken to some of the players, he is a very talented manager. Somebody that will soon be at a much higher level, I'm sure.

I would also like to congratulate another former Saint, in the form of Steve Basham. After the game he was almost in tears and, assuming he gets offered a new deal, is looking forward to playing against us next season. Top guy and deserves every success.

Fair play to Exeter and good luck to them.

All of these teams from the lower leagues seem to be doing ok.

At this rate i reckon Eastleigh will be higher than us in a couple of seasons.

Lol not if they play as they did this afternoon, a performance right out of the southampton fc book of defending "comfortable" leads!

As much as I want to say congratulations the more I feel depressed. Next season (if we exist) we playing against a team who I never could imagine we would be in the same division......... seriously depressing.

with the rise of Hull and the demise of likes of Notts F/Leeds get less precious about opponents now!

You reporting on the game down there fella? I think it's even worse that we're playing Carlisle next season....Gravesend wasn't that long ago.

Shame about Carlisle and Hartlepool staying up

With Northampton, Cheltenham & Hereford going down, we've missed out on some fairly short away trips

Yeah mate, I was. Been Rotherham United reporter for the past season for a paper up here and have seen the boys we'll be up against next season first hand. (Gravesend was a hell of a game, weren't it? The mighty Karl Hawley!)

Anyway, all the sides we'll be playing next season are beatable. Assuming we have any players.

Exeter are a very fluid side. Move forward well, play nice short passes but have a weak defence that, on another day, would have been punished heavily.

Wycombe aren't good. They have a couple of quality players who have dragged the rest of the team along with them. Hence their dip of form towards the end of the season.

Brentford are a decent side but lack depth. Scott's a good manager though so I'm sure they'll do well.

They get worse the lower down the leagues you go, Aldershot's, well, it was a gutter.

I'm thrilled for Exeter, since they were destroyed by a guy - Mike Lewis - who nearly destroyed Swansea City a year earlier. As fate would have it, either Exeter or Swansea would be relegated from the Football League exactly 6 years ago today - 3 May 2003.

The days leading up to both teams' final games, and the games themselves, were covered by a Dutch TV crew. I keep a copy of the program here.

It is non-partisan, and the music really makes it. About 50 minutes long. Don't worry that the first 1 1/2 minutes is in Dutch. It is all English afterwards.

I watch it twice a year, just to keep me grounded. So I can appreciate the good times for what they are.

"One fan told me that hitting rock bottom and starting over again was the best thing that could have happened. You could hear the pride in his voice and there is definitely a real sense of togetherness and community at Exeter City"

I think we can take heart from this!

As well as Tisdale surely Fleetwood (on loan from Charlton) is worth looking at?

I don't think he is. Having seen him he was quick and had a good touch, granted, but he was too greedy. There were at least three times when he took it on himself rather than producing an easy pass. There are lots of other strikers that'd be better suited to League One.
