Did you play in this game Bridgey, or know someone who did? I was on the Customers team.

Saints/Pompey rivalry: A recent history
channonwindmill replied to Papa Shango's topic in The Saints
Good read Papa. My first derby was the Carling Cup game in 2003. The minute's silence that night had a special significance for me as my dad had died just a couple of weeks before. My dad followed Saints religiously in the 50s and 60s and he took me to my first game at the Dell in 1986 when I was 12 (bench seats, under West Stand). From my point of view that minute's silence was as much for him as it was for Ted Bates, and I'll never forget or forgive the Skates that disrespected it. I realise that it was only a very small minority that did it, and I appreciate that there were many Pompey fans who were as abhorred by it as we were, but emotion magnifies the significance of these things and I was deeply personally aggrieved by it. While I'll (obviously) never hold any kind of affection for Pompey, like others on here I don't want to see them disappear because I'd miss the derbies, the atmosphere that is starting to build for me already this week, and the chances to put them back in their place. The only time I've been to FP was for the 4-1 Amarillo fiasco and like all the other Saints fans there that day I need to see those memories exorcised. -
A career in sports punditry beckons, methinks.

I understand what you're saying with this - I've seen plenty of bands at the Guildhall over the years and thought on many occasions that the sound left a lot to be desired. However I think its worth pointing out that the Guildhall was designed (acoustically) for classical and choral performances and that no-one in the 1930s could reasonably have been expected to be able to predict what direction 'popular' music would take in the years to come. For what it's worth, a number of people have told me that classical concerts in the Guildhall sound fantastic and I'm sure they do. Also I think the experience of a band's sound man makes a huge difference in all this - I saw Goldfrapp there a couple of years ago and the sound was great. I guess some are just better at dealing with awkward acoustics than others. Overall though I have to concur that Southampton should really have a decent modern concert venue.

Don't know what made me think of him, but Djamel Belmadi is now coaching in Qatar, FWIW... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djamel_Belmadi

Yeah, he did. I just have very strong memories of one particular game when Monkou didn't let him have a kick all afternoon and he (Wright) got very frustrated and arsey.

Standing on the Milton up at the back near a guy called Dennis (I think) who always used to bring his little boy along who stood on a beer crate up against one of the railings. MLT's two wonder goals against Newcastle. MlT's penalty miss against Forest, but the incredible goal he also scored in that game. Beating Ipswich 4-3 with 3 goals in the last ten (or so) minutes. Ken Monkou marking Ian Wright out of the game and making him look extremely ordinary. Ronnie Ekelund Grobelaar's penalty save against Shearer I could go on...

Ok.

I find myself feeling somewhat embarassed... Ahem. -

Where does Mike O'Callaghan fit into all this (if at all)? Another fairly regular Echo contributor. Example here: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/8360829.Pardew_s_sacking_a__crazy_decision_/ -
Much like the Echo. They make a good team.

I can certainly believe that KK would use the back exit. As to the rest, I'm not so sure.

When I worked at Tyrell & Green the manager of the carpet department was called Les Reed. This may or may not be significant.

Looks like I'm making an exception in this case...

I'm not one to point the finger at individuals, but Puncheon was diabolical.

I find myself agreeing with this.

Any team which is proverbially 'there or thereabouts' at the end of the season will have, at some point, lost one and drawn one from any two selected games. We just happen to have done it in our first two games, that's all.

Markus Liebherr RIP. All tributes here please.
channonwindmill replied to camdijk's topic in Golden Posts
When my little boy had his first birthday in July last year, the circumstances at our club were such that I was genuinely concerned I'd never have the pleasure of taking him to see Saints with me in years to come. The fact that this is now something I assuredly look forward to is entirely due to Markus, and for this gift I cannot thank him enough. RIP my friend. -

Damn straight. Case ran that team, and I never forgave Branfoot for letting him go.

The seventh game (if I remember rightly) was against Forest who were virtually already down and we lost 2-1 - MLT missed a penalty but scored a sublime goal at the Milton end.
