My favourite Papa Waigo moment was when we nearly ran him over near Bedford Place when he walked across the road to the car park without looking.

I've seen you in black, you looked alright. The most expensive one is the longest length and waterproof, I doubt it'll be warmer than the £70 winter all-weather (also waterproof, and shotcan exploding gin and tonic proof on the train last week). I wore it to a Newport County match and broke my golden rule, it was that effective. No scarf or hat needed last Saturday when it was minus one in York. Might be worth checking if the black all weather has the fleece in the hood/collar area and inside the pockets too like the blue winter all weather. Forgot to mention there's also a quilted-looking Saints crest jacket which isn't adidas branded, no hood but looks quite decent as well, without the stripes down the sleeve which made the wife put a coat back because she said she "looked a bit pikey"!

When you're receiving as much more money as Saints will be next season, and know that all of your competitors will also be receiving that much more money, you have to plan and adjust your wage levels or you end up missing out on players you could have got because someone else is paying more. That is still sustainable because the sums received have gone up, and wages ALWAYS end up rising to offset the additional money. But there's an uncertainty about where the new wage level will be that enables Prem clubs with their heads switched on to give new players wage increases compared to their old club, but below the levels their peers will be at in a year or two's time. Basically, everyone's going to be paying more to the players even if the transfer fees don't necessarily go up. If we get in early and commit them to more than they're getting but less than they'll be worth, we can pay less for a bit, then pay more later when everyone decides to renegotiate their wages after seeing what the new signings are getting. The extra money gives us the chance to buy better players for relatively low wages in a window before the overall wage level goes up - that's not just the likes of Austin, it's also just-below top-level European players with good experience who aren't getting as much for their current team. As long as we get the contracts signed before the inevitable wage hikes we'll get good value. Stoke did it in the summer with Shaqiri. In short, we might not actually be paying £100k yet, but a player of that standard will probably expect that much in a year or two anyway, so why not go in just below that now before it becomes expected?

The £90 Training Stadium is a long-length winter coat, think that's only in black. The £70 winter "all weather" jacket is a really warm padded coat (which is more puffy than it looks in the pics). I have this in blue/orange, wore in on Saturday when it was freezing and I was toasty. I'm not sure if the "Winter All Weather" - the blue one is the same as the normal (black) all weather, but I think the winter one might be fleece-lined when the black one is the autumn range and may not be. I'm getting one on Saturday but I think having tried it on that it's not as warm as the winter one. Possibly. The Rain Jacket is basically showerproof and not much more. The black "Anthem jacket" with the grey shoulder bits is a thin weird summer jacket type thing which has only poppers and is probably pretty chilly right now. The "training jacket" seems to be basically a zip-fronted tracksuit top to go over the actual tracksuit top which has a side zip on the collar.

The Academy, how many PL quality players has and how often?
The9 replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
It gives you a list of all of our Academy products over the past 10 years or so - which makes it incredibly easy to work out who came through when. But if you want to be p155y about it, I'll delete the link and you can work it out for yourself. Done. -
Apart from the one on the page you go to for ticket information for this match you mean? http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/tickets-southampton-vs-west-ham-united-08022016-2871446.aspx Please note that, should either Southampton or West Ham require a replay in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup, the date of this fixture will revert to Saturday 6th February, with a kick-off time of 5.30pm.
-
Doesn't show that it's a joke, it shows that they're good at planning. For those who can't be ar5ed to click the link it says "**This fixture will move to 5.30pm Saturday 6 February if either team is involved in an FA Cup replay"

Saints are 'increasingly hopeful' on Victor Wanyana signing a new deal
The9 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Exactly. There's no "hive mind", most people who can be bothered to hold a coherent debate are flexible enough to see both sides of it and even in my criticism I pointed out Wanyama played well against Arsenal (and probably will against Man U), for obvious reasons. What he seems to be missing is that big clubs want to buy proven talent - Schneiderlin upgraded from "probably Spurs" to Man U by playing his guts out for another season, whilst Wanyama is sliding from the "Arsenal zone" into the "Liverpool zone". Obviously on a season by season basis the relative success of the clubs vary, but as a general rule, Man U/Arsenal/Chelsea/Man City = Champions League, Liverpool/Spurs = Europa League. Spurs are on an up at the moment but you wonder if they'd even consider Wanyama and his options are only going to limit further if he's not seen as a 100%er all of the time - plus there's nowhere better to earn lots more money for doing the same thing as the Premier League right now. The teams in the CL bracket there (inc Chelsea) won't even look at him if he's not consistent. Who knows what Liverpool have planned with Klopp's first summer transfer window though. With the Prem tv deal likely to re-baseline Prem wage levels again much higher, we could (maybe) even see him join someone like Stoke or Leicester if he performs well but not at a very top level and it's all about him getting a pay rise, but no-one's going to take a punt on someone not putting it in. -

There's already a long-running and occasionally updated thread about the Academy products. The link to which I have removed. See below. -
Nor had Portsmouth between the 2010 semi-final and the first round this year in November 2015.

Interesting-ish, but already a thread elsewhere on the Forum which gets bumped every so often and definitely not needed in this particular thread, which is all killer and no filler absolutely definitely f'sure, and this is in no way sarcasm. EDIT: found it thanks to a search on "Holder-Spooner" : http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?50894-Random-Ex-Academy-Player-Transfer-News-no-one-will-care-about&highlight=holder-spooner

Glad you appreciate the feedback, that'll hold you in good stead.

Basically I think there are only a few models: source content online, add a load of non-time critical historical articles and interviews, and present it with a rapid turnaround of current news and opinion that's nearly as immediate as online - and that makes it a nightmare logistically in terms of printing and circulation. The days of people buying a fanzine to find out what someone thought about the last match, or reading 2 month old match reports, are gone - we already know because we see it here immediately, and it's at least a week old by the time you can possibly publish it and sell it. You'll also need to make a decision about quality - I'm not paying £2 for a fanzine unless it looks professional. Hypothetically, if there was a fanzine on sale with Charlie Austin on the cover last Saturday I'd have been impressed and bought one, and you only get that split second to impress. The other option is you go low quality and ignore the immediate, but offer a massive amount of content so people don't mind shelling out because they know there will be SOMETHING different in there. Or you offer unique stuff like cartoons (good luck with the effort and lead times for doing that). A few Saints fan-site people and bloggers, etc might want the chance to "be published" and share their stuff with a bit of free publicity for their URL. I guess you could also focus on local business advertising and adopt the Evening Standard/Metro "free" model too. Why yes, I have thought about doing this before.

Saints are 'increasingly hopeful' on Victor Wanyana signing a new deal
The9 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Defensive midfielders who don't track players and show tangible signs of not being bothered to run back in any great haste are showing signs of disinterest whether they occasionally outmuscle people in challenges they're already near to or not. Watch him for Sturridge's goal in the 1-6 when Van Dijk wins a header on the edge of the centre circle, in the Saints half. We lose the ball with Wanyama in the Liverpool half on the other edge of the centre circle, and Liverpool play it forward. Clasie rapidly gets over as he tries to close down Can but gets turned because he overshoots, and Can then runs into the 20 yards of space in front of our defence with Lallana in support as he's run past Wanyama who's still in the centre circle, jogging back. Can has all the space and time he needs to play an unpressured pass to Sturridge, who scores their second. He completely lost my support after that one, and the more I've been watching him since, in every match he's played except against Arsenal, the more noticeable it's been. Worth noting that I didn't go on Saturday, so don't know what he was like then. -
I'm fairly sure he's growing his beard until he scores. Going to have a nest in it soon at that rate. I'm also quite glad he's going through his inevitable end of career downturn elsewhere, on lots more money.
-
Done, but I hate your "how much would you pay" question so much for overlapping the ranges. 50p-£1 or £1-£2? A quid. So which button is that?
-
Saints will be offering £100m a week just like everyone else pretty quickly. It's inevitable that most of the new tv deal will end up in the bank accounts of the players, it always does. The overall standard of the Prem will rise, better players than ever will come to clubs that previously couldn't afford them, players in the Prem will end up with more money as a result, will be interesting to see what happens to the parachutes and Championship clubs, as we've recently gone through a spell of parity where sides have been able to come up and compete and often bounce back due to the ability to retain players on big money from the parachutes. Whether that continues when there's less incentive than ever to stay with relegated clubs remains to be seen.

How about Kevin Phillips? Scored against us for Sunderland twice at Stadium of Light in the Prem in Dec 99 (and again in the return game at St Mary's April 2000) Didn't score any own goals in 2003-05(!) Scored for West Brom in Feb 2007 in a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns in Championship Scored for Birmingham in Championship in 2-1 defeat in August 2008 at St Mary's in Championship Somehow didn't score for the likes of Leicester, Blackpool or Palace against us though - but 3 teams, 2 divisions, 5 goals.
-
Only... For Preston in a 3-1 win against us in March 2007 For Leicester in a 2-0 win in Jan 2012. He didn't play in the FA Cup game for the Skates, and he was at Leicester when we played them in 2011.
-
How's Marcus Bent doing in this equation? Players with lots of teams are going to have a better chance, and it's not like anyone's going to forget the killer for Everton in the relegation season. EDIT: Ha, that was his only goal against us, despite him playing for 15 teams and about 10 of them being in the same division as Saints. Well, there goes that theory.
-
Deathly accurate though. He might also be the only person that read the whole thing.
-
It'll be interesting to see if Hodgson decides to use 4-4-2 to counter all those 4-2-3-1s or whether it only works in the Prem due to the lower ball retention rates. Vardy was pretty decent against Saints on the wing at the King Power last season.

Saints are 'increasingly hopeful' on Victor Wanyana signing a new deal
The9 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Every team needs the unpredictable to keep the opposition having to react rather than always being able to manage the situation. He offers some kind of threat even on his worst days, and his unpredictability often opens up space for others from defenders breaking ranks to close him down. On Wanyama, I'm with Steve. Not a patch on last season, we already have a more consistent replacement in Romeu in a position where consistency and predictability IS an asset, and if I'm a potential buyer I'm wondering if he's a flash in the pan, if Schneiderlin made him look better than he was, or if he's just going to perform when he wants a move from his new club too. I can't believe for a second we will get him to sign a new deal unless it adds a release clause and more money - he's already proven that he thinks Europa League qualifiers are below his level.
