  1. Kind of supports the argument that the clubs making the most money from attendances are the ones not keen to restrict prices as they're the ones who'd lose the most. Except West Ham, who presumably plan on putting the away fans in the most expensive part of the Olympic Stadium.
  2. Indeed. Would also have conceded a penalty had Clattenburg not bottled it. Van Dijk negating Carroll at the end was probably the most significant thing. Thought Byram did well actually, but he had loads of space as we lined up something akin to 3-4-2/3-5-1/5-2-2 with nothing in front of the full-backs in the hope we could make play predictable and they'd launch crosses from deep which we could deal with. Bringing Carroll on basically played into this.
  3. Just glad Clattenburg was also crap when it came to giving the absolutely bolted on penalty against Yoshida for tripping the West Ham striker near the goal-line in the first half. And also didn't give the penalty for handball they appealed for late on, too. Didn't think it was a red, stupid tackle, probably a yellow, the rolling over and 3 West Ham players running up to him caused it as much as the tackle.
  4. Having said that, there were periods early on where they looked as likely to play the ball from the back as we did in the second half against Liverpool in the League Cup. West Ham just didn't pressurise enough up there.
  5. West Ham had 2 shots on target. The defence is doing brilliantly, that's only 5 shots on target in 4 matches aside from Arsenal away. Romeu/Clasie (preferably with 9 other players on the park) is the future.
  6. But anyway... I found 2015. and So now those stats ARE on this thread...
  7. 1. My mistake: it's this (similar content, same stats relevant) thread - should have said "currently on the board" or similar, as opposed to the "thread": http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?55984-It-keeps-on-getting-more-difficult#.VrVGOFiLTIU 2. I just meant that as there are actual figures, you could use those for a better illustration. 3. The figures are pretty consistent for matchday revenue in relation to total revenues, and actually not that much has changed since 2014, so no, they are absolutely relevant as an overview. Plus I just found a 2015 version which proves that. Having said that, the only stats available for match prices are complex enough to dissuade anyone from breaking them down even using estimated prices and capacities, and your point wasn't dependent on them anyway, so ok, I shall just wind my neck in here.
  8. Here's a dig though: - Fulham’s Craven Cottage was the most popular ground in The Football League for away fans to visit (2,788 visiting fans on average). Milton Keynes Dons was most visited by away fans in Sky Bet League 1 (average of 980 visitors per match) and Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium the most popular away trip in Sky Bet League 2 (an average of 948 visiting fans per match) Read more at http://www.football-league.co.uk/news/article/2015/football-league-attendance-analysis-2598261.aspx#LALtJIeVotlYvwcR.99 Obviously not the Cup Final they thought they were?
  9. They're also 28th/72 for travelling fans (pure numbers) in the FL, but bless 'em they ARE top of L2 for this, right there with the 21st ranked Championship side (Cardiff), and behind the 7th best away attendance in League One (Preston). http://www.football-league.co.uk/documents/travelling-fans-highest549-2598181.pdf
  10. Ah well, this will have to do. Travelling fans as a percentage of home fans. They're 59th of 72 for last season. No figures for Prem sides listed. Rochdale are top with an impressive 20%-ish of all their fans travelling. This was certainly my experience of them in Newport when I was on my way to Swansea v Saints (the sausages and masks game) in 2013/14, though they did get promoted that day so a bit of a blip. http://www.football-league.co.uk/documents/travelling-fans-as-percentage-of-home-fans549-2598187.pdf
  11. Generally disgraceful conduct unbecoming of a member of... oh wait, he's only a councillor. Just a stupid bastard then. Still absolutely the kind of person I wouldn't want making decisions for the benefit of the majority, even the majority of Portsmouth.
  12. First thing was that I said it was skewed mid-season to begin with. Second thing, I already agreed that point about bigger grounds was valid, and did already say they've been publishing away attendances for a while and I'll be surprised if no-one has compiled them. I thought there was one out there, I also thought someone other than me might go and track it down, but I briefly forgot that I'm the only one who does that kind of stuff.
  13. Just responding to an over-reaching of apple's importance in smartphone development, don't get all Shurlocky about it.
  14. Southampton sit in 7th position, one position and five points behind West ham. Where do you think you will realistically finish this season? 8th Which three teams do you tip for relegation this season? Villa, Sunderland, Norwich How do you rate Slaven Bilic first season as a manager in the Premier league? Less obviously dislikeable than Allardyce, team doing well, he's doing a decent job. West Ham sit in sixth place after 24 games having briefly occupied the third spot but what league position can West Ham realistically achieve this season under Bilic? 6th. If you could have any current West Ham player in your team who would you choose? Payet is miles ahead of anyone else you have in terms of importance Do you understand what the 'West Ham way is' and what it means to Hammers fans? There's never been anything I'd remotely consider a "West Ham style" that wasn't primarily Allardyce's doing, nothing anyone did in 1966 had any relevance to anything John Lyall's teams, or Redknapp, or anyone since has done, and I'm fairly sure the rest of football thinks it's a myth too. It's not like you've got a well-established tradition of a well drilled defence grinding out successful 1-0 wins, or nowadays trying too hard to walk the ball in, like some London clubs we could mention Which Saints player should we include in our Fantasy dream team? Forster seems to be correlating nicely with clean sheets so far. Which Saints player should West Ham players fear on Saturday 2nd Feb? Hopefully Charlie Austin might have something to prove about his dodgy knee or wages, or something. 14 Supporters' Trusts came together to petition the Government for a public inquiry about West Ham's occupancy of the Olympic Stadium. Does the fact that West Ham got a good deal bother you personally as a football fan? Not really, I suspect we'd take a similar handout if offered, and at least it's a new ground for next season... How do you rate Ronald Koeman's season? Solid B, not as good as last time round, looked to have made a few strange decisions around the Europa League exit and early on, lots more people questioning his choices after getting thrashed by Liverpool in the Capital One Cup, but recent tactical tweaks seem to have been successful and who knows if we've got a chance of getting back at last season's level if we can avoid another collapse month. How do you expect the Saints to set-up against West Ham on Saturday Team/formation prediction? Targett's out we so might not go 3-5-2 which we have been a bit recently. I wonder if we might try a 4-4-2 if two of Long/Austin/Pelle are fit. Failing that, variations on the 4-2-3-1 with Clasie alongside Wanyama if we're "attacking" and Romeu there if we're more defensive have been de rigeur, which some people will argue are 4-3-3. What is your score prediction for the Saturday? Neither team to score more than 2, we should edge it as we're at home.
  15. They don't, I just checked. I just assumed they did based on you suggesting they did. "We offer Concessionary tickets for those supporters aged 65 and over and Young Adults aged 17-to-21, as well as Under-17 and Under-11 tickets. Read more at http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/tickets/ticket-information/index.aspx#U0jXXHQsgXsmrzFk.99 They did used to offer discounted tickets to the Southampton University Student Union but that was back in the pre-admin Championship days and I don't plan on wading through student information to see if they still do, though obviously there's been partnership in other areas with the Chimpstitute since.
  16. LOL, have you seen the hundreds of other articles on the site dealing with teams all the way down to L2 across the past 3 years?
  17. I assume the correlation between people on low incomes and criminal behaviour compared to other income levels is what is being implied. Along with the ones about thickoes not retaining any sense of perspective and thinking they know how to support better than anyone else. Just speculating though. It's the flipside of the "clubs want well-behaved people with lots of disposable income to watch matches" argument. Quite why there's such a belief that people who do alright and are living comfortably aren't able to yell their support just as well as anyone else, who knows?
  18. They're not, they're discussing European permutations, not even referencing Saints at all in most cases.
  19. Saturday 5th Feb 2011, and judging by the after-7pm start time on the OP, it was an early evening kick-off in the same tv slot as this weekend's match back when (I think) the Football League was the only place you'd see 5pm-ish kick offs on a Saturday evening. I spent most of the afternoon on a barge turned into a pub not far from the ground. All I remember of the match was knowing there would be a ton of goals beforehand because of Peterborough's open games, the terrace behind the goal, and thinking the last minute penalty was garbage, but it was a great game to watch even so. For some context, that season Peterborough Won games 4-1 (four times), 5-2, 5-4, 4-0, 5-3, 5-0 (twice), 6-0 and 3-0 (four times) Drew 4-4 and 3-3 Lost games 5-1 (twice), 4-1 (to us) and 6-2.
  20. As he says, "Please note that, as an American, I find it easier to talk about rosters than squads. I hope everyone can live with that." :hunt:
  21. Thought the assumption we won't keep Stekelenburg then being followed by "not sure we have enough depth with an U21 to cover for Gazzaniga" was a bit weird. One easily solves the other just by holding Gazzaniga in the Dev squad. Great article though, lots of useful information. Vague annoyance that Gazzaniga came to the UK 6 months too late to qualify as Association Trained.
  22. Amused by the reference to "referring to rosters not squads" after the beyatching on here last time this came up.
  23. I'm fairly sure they're wise to that stunt since the infamous "40% concessions" game at Wigan in 2012/13 which stevegrant occasionally mentions. Good luck when getting the phone call which asks why you've bought a student ticket on an adult customer number which they've been doing this season with kid tickets, etc. And no-one's going to have 6+ aways on a fake account with the club sporadically checking that stuff... are they? Of course if you're actually a student that point is moot, but then it's just the amount you'd expect to pay plus £6 postage anyway.
  24. Might get a better reception if you didn't tip us to lose.
  25. There are actual Saints and Man U matchday revenue figures on this thread from 2014 already, you know!
