  1. I think Block 42 being the answer to "life the universe and everything" is a general concept that should be explored. Though not necessarily for this match.
  2. Don't go changing my posts...
  3. On viewing this, and the other pedantry thread, I'm pretty sure there are a few people with broken irony detectors. Or "whoosh", as we like to say around these parts.
  4. You'd expect it to be difficult for any foreigner who doesn't speak the language. Judging by Lee's interpreter we've got a handle on some of the issues, but who knows how far our integration processes go and how successful they are ? I think this is one area where clubs can do SO much more generally. When you fork out millions for an asset and want it to perform as well as possible, you should be ensuring the optimum conditions for its performance on and off the field, which includes mental state as much as physical. No point having the body of a worldbeater if you don't feel like running because you can't get refried beans at the local supermarket and you can't understand anything on telly and no-one's sorting it out for you. Having said that, anyone know what Saints do for integration (beyond making everyone sing a song..!)?
  5. If he thinks that's bad he should try playing for a Russian club. Less money unless you're a megastar and a ton of racism on top, plus literally nowhere to hide off the pitch as, in some cases, the only black person for thousands of miles. And then there are the African players with potential who get shipped over to eastern European clubs in their teens as prospects for trials and just left there if it doesn't work out for them, as their agents no longer give a toss about them. At least Pericard got to play for a biit despite being a lot of shart and has something to fall back on. If he's depressed, it's got nothing to do with football.
  6. Getting back to the point, yes Bilbao were excellent and Bielsa's probably my favourite "head coach" at the moment. Chile were great to watch during the World Cup as well. How they're only 7th in La Liga, who knows ? Probably because that level of energy and pressing is REALLY difficult to maintain for 90 minutes. Great kit as well (except the horrible European patch on the back) - let's hope we all get to whinge about that rule in the near future again too.
  7. I believe a competent education (which includes the ability to spell so you don't look like a thicky and might get taken seriously) is a fundamental part of "growing up". Getting the name of the manager right MIGHT just enhance the credibility of the poster. Looks like the pedants are revolting.
  8. It'll be right up there with having "sha la la la la la la la la" sung at us for an hour or so. Which seemed fairly effective at the time.
  9. Just one thing to mention, the Football League don't count players who have no first team appearances in the squad numbers - that's why they're not picking the U-19s - as soon as they do, they count towards the total and reduce their chance of getting another loan in. But then they're only allowed to have 5 loans in a match day squad and 4 on the pitch at once anyway, so they're running out of wiggle room.
  10. To be fair to Aussiedog, he hasn't said anything about the terrible spelling, only the request for names. It's the rest of us (well, certainly me) having a pop at the unprofessional communication from the club, by which I mean the lack of correct spelling, rather than the overall sentiment of the message, which I think is reasonable.
  11. I mentioned him a few weeks ago - certainly the KIND of player we should be looking at, and in that position. I wasn't all that impressed with him last time around, though his energy was good, he moved the ball on quickly and injecting tempo into the game, and his passing accuracy seems to have improved.
  12. Not really, because the team we're playing at the end of that week have a day less rest than Saints do before travelling to play us. LOL @Reading having to play us, West Ham, Birmingham and Brighton away. Then again, Hull, Blackpool and Middlesbrough... We all have Peterborough Away as well, strange.
  13. I wouldn't bother asking, I know of at least 4 others who've already nicked it...
  14. One last thing, is the lack of pedantry-based threads like this one in comparison to the plethora of those on Saints Forever and Saints Web down to a resignation on the part of the pedants (aka "pendants" from the S4E days ) simply because everyone now accepts that the internet is full of this kind of rubbish and you're never going to stop it ? Because there are more mistakes, but definitely fewer people picking up on them. Personally, I don't bother any more because at some point in the future I will rule the world with my correct spelling and passable grammar, so any attempt at correcting and educating the plebs will hamper that goal. On the other hand, it might just be because people hate being told they're wrong, and/or thick, so all you get is abuse even when you're trying to help. Which I have to admit I'm not, on this occasion. Maybe I could use the Blog section as a FAQ or something ?
  15. I would imagine the people outside with their (that's THEIR : "belonging to them") list of names of corporate attendees who are checking you're (that's YOU ARE) all out of the building will be the ones (no apostrophe, it's a plural) checking names. I would also imagine that as the corporate guests are (that's ARE, not OUR) part of the office building, rather than part of the match-attending crowd in the stadium bowl, they are subject to different rules. So that's nearly everything put to bed. They're (that's THEY ARE) asking because of Health & Safety regulations, as stated. The only outstanding question now is "what happened to the teaching of English in England ?".
  16. As I mentioned elsewhere, standing in Block 41, all it needs is... CHEATS --> Maybe someone in Block 1 could have one with on it too ? Also, someone in the centre of the Itchen, just towards the Northam, behind the subs' bench : CHEATS ... \ .....\ ......v
  17. Probably because they'd figured out they were going to get away with it again.
  18. He's almost certainly a Skate, from Stubbington and worked as a recruitment consultant at Matchtech in Whiteley according to his LinkedIn. Independent wrestling organisation "IPW:UK" runs out of Portsmouth and he works for them. His alias is "Ricky Hype", though I'd never heard of him until this - so he's achieved his goal. He's now up there with equally Z-list IPW:UK indie wrestlers Rockstar Spud who was on Snog, Marry, Avoid ? a year or so ago and Marty Scurll who was on this series of Take Me Out. Big whoop. He's not even on their website, only Wikipedia.
  19. And if it turns out in 4-5 years time we're bottom of the Championship in admin because we can't afford to pay any of our players due to only getting 20k to matches and paying them up to £80k a week with no owner to sustain that, we'll happily accept you're right.
  20. Newport's situation in 1988/89 tells me that it's perfectly possible to register a club provisionally for a League without having to follow it through. The season after being expunged from the Conference, Jerry Sherman, who was in charge of Newport County when they got wound up, tried to register them - the original club - for the Isthmian League (he also succeeded in getting their constitution changed to include "London, the Home Counties... and South Wales" to do so) at the same time as the new club, Newport AFC, were registering with the Hellenic League to get into the Southern League pyramid. Only the AFC club (now renamed Newport County AFC) started the following season. In addition, AFC Wimbledon and FCUM are both new clubs from a single set of fans which began even though the old club continued. Of course the difference here is that for some reason all these disillusioned Skates have decided AFCP won't need to exist if PFC somehow manage to continue, basket case or not. They have nothing like the level of commitment that the fans of FCUM and AFC Wimbledon have, both setting up new clubs because they weren't going to stand by and have the still-existing club run in the way it was. Even if PFC somehow survive the summer, there should still be an AFCP if they're serious - or is the real issue that without the "ten thousand" fans (!) they won't have even the most tenuous claim to reforming at the TOP of the pyramid, rather than at the bottom where they should be ?
  21. I absolutely disagree. I was also there, and it's great to hear it and not think about that match, but instead think about them getting it shoved back in their faces.
  22. "We request from the guest to send there names of there guests" I'd sack them based on this sentence alone. I am also more bothered by that than any corporate H&S requests. For the record, they also have a table plan as you walk in, so having names on that makes the whole thing slightly more pleasant.
  23. I'm quite pleased with my contributions, still think it was fair comment at the time that Schneiderlin sees a pass and should have been in behind the strikers, but his heading (slightly) and his tackling and workrate have improved a lot, lending him to the DM position. He's matured and got used to his role (now he has one) in English football. Happy to say now that I'm still not convinced Schneiderlin will be a regular if we go up though, but he's stepped up his game to the level we're at so far, so who knows? Not quite so sure about Gasmi or Pekhart with hindsight, what are they doing now ? I know McGoldrick is still gash though. Not sure why anyone would be so bothered about bumping old threads, I think it's a great idea. At least I will until someone finds the ones where I'm slagging off Lambert for being slow and immobile and limited... whistles...
  24. Fine to discuss it as a joke on here, but I hope it never actually permeates real life - it was SO pathetically small and a bit desperate when Brighton were playing those Nigel songs last season (and made our win all the better), and I'd like to think we're above that kind of club-sponsored pettiness. Let's leave the mockery to the fans, much less awkward and we're better at it anyway.
