John B's comments about violence were in response to StuRomseySaint saying "the only bad point was that nobody gave him [storrie] a slap", nothing to do with what the report said.

Not disputing the strike story being a myth, but "scummers" specifically is unique to them. Unsurprising as it is a bit grammatically dubious. That doesn't mean the strike point is wrong though.

There will be loads of tickets (at least 40,000) and quite a few spares due to the method of allocation, plus people always get left hanging by part-timers who they've bought a ticket for, book the flights.

IIRC we sang "you're supposed to be at home" and "shiiit ground no fans".

Dad, if we played like that every week......

They're hardly likely to catch us with 3 late counterattacks if we're already 3 goals up and not pushing forward in numbers with 3 at the back... -
Which we'd been saying for about a month before, even when they weren't there. Hence "wind up Pompey" or just the simple "fck off" would have been preferable. Hopefully the cash waving every time they did it was also captured onscreen.

Norwich in the Prem (and to a slightly lesser extent in the JPT!!), much much louder than yesterday. Pahars' goal against them in 2003/4 was up there too.

I was singing "one team insolvent" in response.

Got to keep bumping this one, catchy, easy to learn and God dammit I have had 5 years of hating that since Fratton. Also utterly independent of activities on the pitch.

In which case they have 5 days to get that commitment or it'll be too late. The PL operates for the benefit of it's member clubs, they have nothing to gain by throwing cash at a black hole for the sole purpose of appearances. If the PL suddenly becomes an "owner" of Portsmouth then they're setting a hell of a precedent for supporting appalling money management. They will not do that.

It's in the first post of the build up thread. Poo-lis is too, and Aaron Martin

Forgot the classic... Dry Your Eyes Skate I know it's hard to take but you are going bankrupt Plenty more fish in the sea...

I didn't wear anything blue to the 2 home league games or 2 cup games against them at St Mary's so far. Didn't work at Fratton, but that won't matter on Saturday. Black Jeans Quest is on..!

Only 29,483 last time we played them in the FA Cup in 2005, we didn't sell out so can't judge what effect segregation will have on attendance. Actually we got more watching Liverpool the week before, and I seem to recall the segregation last time was quite narrow, less than usual because of the police presence and need to maximise the reduced away allocation.

I thought Thomas was unlucky to get booked for the first incident as he played the ball and the man was incidental, though it was a sliding tackle from behind (which actually if it's a foul is an automatic red anyway as per the 1994 directive on tackling from behind). He then in another incident clattered through the back of their player milliseconds after play was dead for a free-kick to Saints already, and then ran the width of the penalty area to shove the MK Dons player in the last incident - I thought he'd seen an elbow used or something. Lewington and Wilbraham were mouthing off to the ref in one incident alone far more than Thomas did all match, and it was obvious to me he wasn't going to get a second yellow for the push as soon the ref called captain Hammond over to talk to him. "Talking to his captain" was the ref's get out for not showing a second yellow to Thomas - if he hadn't already been booked he'd have definitely got one for that, but basically the ref bottled it, which is just as well really. I think that's the first time I've seen him lose it, and even then he was pretty in control.

Basically I'm totally convinced that if we lose to them we will be eliminated full stop. If they subsequently go bust the team they draw in the 6th round will get a bye. However, if we go to a replay and they go bust first, then the FA will give us the bye as we won't have been eliminated. There is practically no possibility of a losing side being reinstated unless the team they are playing is in breach of a specific rule on the occasion of the match (eg fielding 12 players, ineligible players etc).

Actually Accrington Stanley chose to resign from the league because they knew they couldn't afford it, rather than being wound up or closed by creditors : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accrington_Stanley_F.C._(1891) Scarborough were in Conference North when wound up, so that opens a can of worms to include numerous other clubs. I have to mention them (esp after stuffing Eastleigh 4-1 last night) but Newport County probably would have gone bust as a football league club too, but instead finished bottom of Div 3, Div 4 and were bottom of the Conference by the time they were finally wound up. FWIW from the figures heard at the court yesterday I think it's 85% that they will cease to exist next week.
-
I am 99% sure that is not going to be the case. It will cost the League and their teams loads in losing the revenue of a Play-Off Final. Given that the Prem will already be promoting the right number of teams to get them back to 20 next season if the Skates go under, the Football League will either leave the CCC a team short for 2010/11 and change the promotion numbers NEXT season, or they'll shoehorn an extra promotion place into Lge 1 and Lge 2 this season, with all the playoff places moving down a slot. There is also the possibility of just relegating one fewer team from CCC / L1 / L2. Either way, the Conference/Blue Sq Prem could then add another side for promotion as well, filling the one team vacancy in the FL.

I think you're probably right - Cardiff and Southend both have finances and agreements in place to pay off the outstanding money, and they've been given 28 days more, so HMRC are not too worried about that, and must have confidence in their ability to pay - Southend's debt is only a couple of hundred thousand and Cardiff about a million. The Skates owe over TEN TIMES that amount, and HMRC claim they're insolvent. That's a different argument. "Come and see us in a week" says "we don't believe you". Oh, and for those who say "they'd have parachute payments due", well Newport County had a future Premier League defender (Darren Peacoc'k), who was subsequently transferred for £2.5m from Hereford to Newcastle) on their books when they were wound up for the sake of £400k back in 1989. It's all about cashflow, and by the time those *staggered* payments over two years come through, they'll owe far more (probably in loan interest alone) than those payments would cover.

Paul Allen's boat could be in the car park outside their "stadium" for all it would be worth, he now owns Seattle Sounders in MLS so wouldn't be able to own another club under FIFA rules.
-
I think it's more a matter of people wanting to get as many in as possible than making sure people can actually get tickets. Frankly I'm telling anyone who hasn't been all season and is barely a fan that I can get them one for about £100, but given the prices last year that won't be much of a mark-up for some seats ! Obviously this is just to discourage them from hassling me, the right person can have my spare, though most of them were there last night anyway.

I checked this after the Norwich game. JPT games, shockingly, are not on the preferred list of Club Wembley events. It is a straight out "full capacity minus a few FL reps" situation. There will be nearly 90k tickets available between the two clubs - provided they get the segregation right. As Carlisle have already played in the JPT Final they'll have a good idea of how many they'll bring, we should get the rest, pending segregation - and as a new stadium there should be plenty of capacity splitting options. Last season's allocation was 50/50 and sold in batches, with the lower tier filling up before the middle then the top - it would depend on pricing of course - but from what I read, Luton didn't sell out their half (top tier) anyway, with a couple of blocks of the top tier seats left - so God knows why they were whining about Scvnthorpe not filling the place. I can see us getting 50k seats. PS I'd like to take this time to say to the bloke in the corcourse who didn't believe me about no away goals and pens in the JPT Area Final... "trust me"

We'll wear the usual kit, and why wouldn't we? It's only the bloody JPT, Wembley or not !
