Why so many rumours about our best players leaving?
Chez replied to jasoneuelllfanclub's topic in The Saints
it might be worth waiting until after the summer transfer window to see how committed players are to the new regime, but IMO if you keep paying the players enough wedge they will be more than happy to stay. There is a lot of chat about players wanting champions league football, but it didn't seem to worry Rooney and he's not alone. Pay top dollar and you keep the vultures at arms length. That's how Moyes kept many players at Everton - he paid them more than the going rate as we found out when Mikel Arteta left for Arsenal and had to take a wage drop supposedly. -
would the club have made a £900,000 profit if KL hadn't gifted the club £30m?

without enough local support I don't think it will necessarily go through. After all the local people are the customers and if they say they don't need/want it, then I am not sure their plea can be ignored. My knowledge is limited to the BBC TV show The Planners, but these things seem to all end up going to an appeal. I suspect there are one or two nutjobs on here that can outline exactly how this process will play out? I'm also interested to know what result you all want.

doesn't the new Tesco leave room for the hahaha impending £10m redevelopment of the North Stand?
-
I note there is a comment suggesting 18k Pompey fans want the deal to go through. I am not sure if that is necessarily true. Just how reliant are they on the money they will receive if they build goes through? How much is it and when will they get it? If I am honest I don't think anyone living in that area actually wants the new Tesco. It's not needed. The island already has two large Morrisons, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Lidl, numerous Tesco and Sainsbury's express and countless COOPs. In fact a new Kwiki Mart has recently opened on Goldsmith avenue, pretty much opposite **** park. Not to mention the huge Tesco at Port Solent and Sainsburys at Farlington servicing those entering the island. Other than supplying PFC with a handout I don't see a genuine reason for this Tesco at all. Not that the Island needs any more flats or houses, but shouldn't a brownfield site like this be used for housing? We keep being told how desperately short of housing we are...

Not so sure Adam and Ramirez play well together. They eat each others space a bit.

Ever get the feeling they are just making it too easy for us http://www.portsmouthguildhall.org.uk/events-in-the-south/new-theatre-royals-comedy-record-event-at-fratton-park

I honestly will be bitterly disappointed if we let him go for less than £30m. I realise that's pretty much a world record fee for a left back, crazy money, and he might not be the best left back in the world, but in today's (Premiership) market that is the kind of money that should be required to get prise him from us. I know two transfers are never equal, but James Milner signed for City for £28.5m and that was 4 years ago. It won't be long before Shaw starts scoring goals and he will become a real game changer. He already is pretty much our bets attacking threat, Lallana apart and when is not in our side we really struggle to create chances. He's that important. When he leaves our team will be weakened. The squad might benefit, but the team won't. Man United are desperate for a left back, as are Chelsea. Man City could seriously do with an upgrade in that position IMO, so that makes him the hottest property out there.

if his contract was running out this summer then maybe I might wonder what was going on, but he has, what, 14 or 15 months to agree to another one? So it's not exactly a big worry.

you should have seen her earlier efforts

I've watched him quite a few times and IMO he's crap. He has some pace, but has no actual talent to take advantage of it.
-
Alan Blayney? Maybe Keith Granger before that, but goal keeper seems to be a position we have struggled to develop for many many years
-
are you Laurie Madden in disguise? I wish him luck. Hopefully he is just the man to squeeze every last penny out of sponsorship deals and TV money to prevent ticket prices rising out of reach.

Fourth worst goal difference.

Northampton five points adrift with a game in hand. Keeps it interesting. Not much to interest the ever so slightly smaller skate crowd...

Can't stand matter face, but have to admit he does do his research and he is surprisingly fair with saints despite covering the skates for so long. I like Carlise, but he is terrible. He tells you nothing that you haven't just seen. He's just starting so perhaps he will improve.

Still don't understand why MP totally ignored him at the start of the season and played the likes of Prowse ahead of him. He was tremendous the previous season, so it just didn't add up for me. I imagine that is exactly how Jack felt too, so little wonder he considered his options. If Wanyama continues to be selected ahead of him without the form to justify it, then Cork is bound to look elsewhere. Perhaps then the timing of the injury has done us a big favour in that MP won't now have to make a decision between them for the rest of the season and we can pin Cork down to a longer contract.

17k is a very good attendance. Credit where it is due. Should help to pay the surviving Kanu what he is owed. I would imagine every saint would like to wish him all the best in his recovery.

Or even a born on the island XI but got a better offer like Stokes, Ward-Prowse, Chamberlain, Steve Foster, Jack Hobbs, Mark Blake, Claridge, Ray Lewington, Liam Daish, Steve Mills and Paul Moody

I can see that post being like a shot of adrenalin to this thread..

Barker has a point about contracts needing incentives in them, but obviously he doesn't think players being settled and having firm foundations to allow them to concentrate on their football (rather than where there next contract is coming from) is a good thing. Perhaps the two or three players with multi year contracts are the ones he wants rid of. I'm sure they know who they are and are now fully motivated to perform for their manager.
