  1. but without those smoking caused deaths unemployment would be higher so that would cost the government. Without those ciggy breaks perhaps worker moral would reduce, reducing output. Without those breaks maybe worker eyesight/health would be affected by staring at a PC continuously - that added health care is going to cost. Many smokers replace fags with food and become overweight adding to health costs. Cigs reduce stress, stress is a killer and must cost the country in terms of absenteeism and health. Smoking is an industry. If that industry was removed would that not add to unemployment placing a further burden on the government in terms of benefits? People living longer costs the government a fortune in pensions and health care. I'm just making these up as I go along, but those figures don't show the cost of removing cigs from the equation.
  2. I smoked a packet a day for over ten years and enjoyed them a great deal. I gave up ten years ago. Since then I've always missed it, but have managed to to stay off them despite having the odd urge. Seeing the price go through the roof makes me thankful I managed it. That said, recently I've thought about starting again. I feel as though I'm denying myself one of life's pleasures and wonder why I am bothering. We are all going to die and as far as I can see the last 10-20 years are pretty crap and will be even crappier by the time I get there. When it comes to executing smokers that sounds like a cunning plan. What do we hope to achieve here as perhaps there are other groups we can add to that list.
  3. I'm was confused, but perhaps your post explains everything. Chanrai put a bid in and it was accepted by the creditors yonks ago. Chanrai later pulled out. Chanrai back in, but this time Birch says bid unacceptable. Was the bid lower than before? Is that why it was not accepted. But `unacceptable' to who? Birch? How long can he stall for?
  4. Better watch out for jesus driving an audi...
  5. PST are going to have to shout a little louder if they want the ice cream man to hear them
  6. so how much does Chinny get back from this buyout?
  7. Excellent news, for him. Since signing the 5 year deal the club has not looked back and now he get the recognition he deserves, all be it probably not a run out. Does England recognition really help or hinder? I guess it shows you can play for England if you play for Saints, but the last time I said that on here Bridge ****ed off five minutes later to Chelsea.
  8. Except for the fact it was not the firsr time of asking it was the third season in the championship that we failed to cut back our cloth.
  9. Unless the lad is in the squad to stay then I don't want him anywhere near it. I know you have to start somewhere, but a days training and 45 minutes is not enough to get the best out of Ricky. Also I seem to recall BT's confidence suffered massively after his England call up so I'm not sure I ever want to see him get the call.
  10. who decides if the stadium goes for the £2.75m the PST has offered, Birch or Chinny?
  11. My guess is they've just taken £2.1m out of their annual budget and will pay it over 4 years rather than the £2m over 1 year they had planned. Can they buy the club and the golden share without the stadium?
  12. he didn't, but unlike some he did actually want to play football (which he wouldn't at SFC) and thankfully Forest have been interested for yonks and had the reddies to pay enough of his wages for it to be worthwhile us letting him out on loan.
  13. you can only move players if there are suitors
  14. nope. the value of the decision will be if the other strikers at SFC score goals. If they don't then we may as well have stuck with Sharp. We all know he will score a few in the Championship, but this is the premiership.
  15. if we'd signed only defenders and goalkeepers the same `unhappy' people would be pointing to the lack of investment in creativity. We have signed a lot of good players including a right back, centre back and a keeper. All areas of the park including the defence were addressed.
  16. the EPP academy that PST plan t scrap if they gain control. Birch planning ahead nicely for Chanrai to take the helm...
  17. not a fan of Gazzinga then? If we had signed Butland instead would you describe our options in the same way?
  18. are they? Why do you say that? The way Adkins talked up Ramirez it didn't sound as though it was a player imposed upon him. I thought there was a group that worked on signings?
  19. The Tipnor development has already started with trees removed on the east side of the M275 and some old buildings being demolished in preparation for the new exit. However, this development project, that includes houses and shops, certainly is not going to be economically viable if an unfunded football stadium is thrown into the mix. The council is having to find £10m just to supplement the cost of the junction so they aren't going to fund it (as we have seen with their recent loan offer). Planning and consultation does continue, so who knows, the club might be bought and the new owner could take advantage of this long term development, but the stadium will have to come out of the owners pocket not the developer.
  20. actually Danny, Ray and Rod were all at Southampton a long time before being offered YTS apprentichip. Bob Higgins ran the the youth development and was responsible for unearthing and bringing through Shearer, Banger, Kenna, the Wallace brothers, KP and many others as associate schoolboys. He handed these players to Dave Merrington, who completed there footballing education. The youth development scheme at that time was second to none, but it fell apart when Higgins left under a cloud (taking Darren Eadie and Jamie Cureton with him I might add) only returning to former glories when Lowe invested heavily in it.
  21. Massive over exaggeration IMO.
  22. I certainly am and I am not bothered at all about Sharp going out in loan.
  23. 0-1 down at that point and the game was still lost as the attack had done **** all to draw level and could have played all night before scoring. Lambert much more to blame for that defeat. He was poor, but much easier to jump on the bandwagon and blame Fonte for everything. Thank god for Guly or he'd be the target for the boo boys.
  24. I doubt he thought you were a knob. I bet he was chuffed that you took the trouble. I'd do the same I think.
  25. are you lot active posters on POL?
