I said to the missus when it was announced yesterday at the press conference that "that system will crash by 9am tomorrow". All too predictable Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Think you're correct, and maybe this roll out of testing is politically motivated more than actually being massively useful at this point in the journey. Really we should be testing everyone that works in every care home regardless of symptoms as part of a track, isolate and trace plan. Might actually save lives in a very immediate way. Not self selecting those with symptoms. Either way, the actually useful test is the "have you had it/are you immune" which allows people to get back to work with confidence. Slightly annoying that the BBC and others are still parrotting the line that it is a "demand" issue. When there are only a handful of sites for the entire country to go and get a test I would call that supply issue. It's not just the testing kits that one needs to supply, it's the facility to administer them. So an availability issue, a logistics issue, in summary issues on the supply side. Sorry just ranting at the sloppy journalism on TV this morning. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

  5. Hojberg is basically Glenn Cockerill without the goals. Think how Morgan flopped after his big move, and he was universally admired and infinitely better than Pierre. I'm sure he will be sold, they all are, but I can't see him doing anything at Spurs or Arsenal or (more likely) Everton or Leicester. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

The government ones or the one about how McCain chips/Vodafone/the Co-Op/every flipping corporate you can think of are all on your side during this difficult time? If it's the second one I agree. But you have to marvel at the resilience of the UK marketing industry. Capitalism always wins through. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Another 759 dead in hospital today. Urgh. The move away from the peak is going to be a long old schlep. The notion that "20,000 dead would be a good result" is looking way off now. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

https://fullfact.org/online/evidence-network-fake-nhs-tweets/ Full fact have investigated the sock-puppet Twitter account thing. No evidence seen or provided, the guy who started it won't share anything with them. No information on the 127 accounts, no information on the "marketing agency" involved. And on top of that the guy has made false claims before. Nothing to see here except a fantasist crank making up stories because Tories are evil or something. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Don't think it's the government for a minute - the "NHS Susan" account (which is the only one identified despite claims of something like 127 accounts) reads like a wind-up/parody account. I don't think the government are using sock puppet Twitter accounts to stop the 8pm Thursday clapping sessions to be honest, which was one of "Susan's" messages. And the whistle-blower is a conspiracy theory nut-job rather than an actual journalist. However, the general issue is all of this stuff is tiresome noise and agree this is not conducive to effective democracy.

I take quite a lot of hope from the London hospital admissions data which does seem to be on decent decline and has been for a while. Indeed, I imagine it will tick up again tomorrow - but Monday on Monday we are well down so feels hopeful.

449 increase today which is the lowest for a good couple of weeks. Strange times when 449 deaths can be seen as "good" or positive news but it does suggest that we are past this peak.

I love the idea you think you are asking me some clever "gotcha" question, when absolutely nothing I have written on this topic could be summarised they way you have in your "do you honestly believe...." routine. No, I don't "honestly believe that" because nothing I have written suggests that I think that. The fact that you still think we are on course for 500k deaths (or more) shows your fundamental misunderstanding of the issue, compounded by your muddling up of the information that is available as demonstratedby yesterdays 80% humiliation. You don't understand what's happening. We get it, and we are all trying to help you.

I honestly think you don't understand anything about this issue.

Capitals and underlined words and bold fonts and everything. Well done. The 80% and the 500k are linked, one creates the other and they are both created by the "do-nothing" scenario. There's no "time will tell" on it because action has been taken now, we are no longer on that trajectory and haven't been since March. It's very odd how little you understand about the basics of the information that has been provided.

So just to recap you are simultaneously holding the view that the government have done/are doing everything as correctly as possible and defending everything they have done but you still think that 500,000 are going to die from Coronavirus in the UK this year. Clear.

I don't think it was donated by China - it's just where they make that stuff. (And when I say stuff I mean China make everything). So the government being disingenuous in their rebuttal there. Ventilators story here:

It's a thorough rebuttal, I'll give them that. I'd like to see their rebuttal to the ventilators story.
  23. I know what you mean. I buy The Times on a Saturday every week and then the Sunday Times most weeks (especially now there's not much else to do). Always plenty to read and some excellent reporting and opinion/analysis. I'm one of a dying breed of people who like to hold a paper in their hands, and I will miss them when they're gone. Was a Guardian buyer for 20 odd years and used to love the Observer but as you say they became too smug and infuriating and too London centric. Still read digitally now, though so I remain forever Guardian reader - the smug elements are easy to avoid that way. Beyond that there are no other papers I would buy - the only point of disagreement would be to lump the Express and Mail together. The Express is drivel, just re-heated press releases, PA copy and churnalism headlines. The Mail has its unsavoury and horrible, hateful elements but does still invest in journalism and actual original content and always has. Let's not talk about Mail online which is horrific and I cannot defend. Like you I am a long time Private Eye subscriber and it's great. Another thing about British newspapers is (cont. p94)

So you catch Covid-19 through over-working now? Going with that angle weakens his little rant quite early on. A lot of The Sunday Times article is all about a lack of preparedness for pandemics in general so all the WHO-bashing guff not really that relevant. Although the ST investigation is a good piece of work, I would say yesterday's Financial Times report on the utter sh itshow that was the government's ventilator strategy is a much more damning piece and much more indicative of the toxic behaviours in action in our current leadership. There will be plenty on that in the public inquiry.
