I take quite a lot of hope from the London hospital admissions data which does seem to be on decent decline and has been for a while. Indeed, I imagine it will tick up again tomorrow - but Monday on Monday we are well down so feels hopeful.

449 increase today which is the lowest for a good couple of weeks. Strange times when 449 deaths can be seen as "good" or positive news but it does suggest that we are past this peak.

I love the idea you think you are asking me some clever "gotcha" question, when absolutely nothing I have written on this topic could be summarised they way you have in your "do you honestly believe...." routine. No, I don't "honestly believe that" because nothing I have written suggests that I think that. The fact that you still think we are on course for 500k deaths (or more) shows your fundamental misunderstanding of the issue, compounded by your muddling up of the information that is available as demonstratedby yesterdays 80% humiliation. You don't understand what's happening. We get it, and we are all trying to help you.

I honestly think you don't understand anything about this issue.

Capitals and underlined words and bold fonts and everything. Well done. The 80% and the 500k are linked, one creates the other and they are both created by the "do-nothing" scenario. There's no "time will tell" on it because action has been taken now, we are no longer on that trajectory and haven't been since March. It's very odd how little you understand about the basics of the information that has been provided.

So just to recap you are simultaneously holding the view that the government have done/are doing everything as correctly as possible and defending everything they have done but you still think that 500,000 are going to die from Coronavirus in the UK this year. Clear.

I don't think it was donated by China - it's just where they make that stuff. (And when I say stuff I mean China make everything). So the government being disingenuous in their rebuttal there. Ventilators story here:

It's a thorough rebuttal, I'll give them that. I'd like to see their rebuttal to the ventilators story.
  13. I know what you mean. I buy The Times on a Saturday every week and then the Sunday Times most weeks (especially now there's not much else to do). Always plenty to read and some excellent reporting and opinion/analysis. I'm one of a dying breed of people who like to hold a paper in their hands, and I will miss them when they're gone. Was a Guardian buyer for 20 odd years and used to love the Observer but as you say they became too smug and infuriating and too London centric. Still read digitally now, though so I remain forever Guardian reader - the smug elements are easy to avoid that way. Beyond that there are no other papers I would buy - the only point of disagreement would be to lump the Express and Mail together. The Express is drivel, just re-heated press releases, PA copy and churnalism headlines. The Mail has its unsavoury and horrible, hateful elements but does still invest in journalism and actual original content and always has. Let's not talk about Mail online which is horrific and I cannot defend. Like you I am a long time Private Eye subscriber and it's great. Another thing about British newspapers is (cont. p94)

So you catch Covid-19 through over-working now? Going with that angle weakens his little rant quite early on. A lot of The Sunday Times article is all about a lack of preparedness for pandemics in general so all the WHO-bashing guff not really that relevant. Although the ST investigation is a good piece of work, I would say yesterday's Financial Times report on the utter sh itshow that was the government's ventilator strategy is a much more damning piece and much more indicative of the toxic behaviours in action in our current leadership. There will be plenty on that in the public inquiry.

Well he has been given a significant advance by a publisher to write it, so on my planet that's work. He was never doing it as a fu cking hobby.

The "working" he was doing then, as reported by some, was his biography of William Shakespeare.
  18. The virus looks like it is accelerating the inevitable death of the newspaper industry but I don't see how that is particularly positive. Personally I am looking forward to buying a Sunday Times this morning as their investigation into the government's early (non) response to the virus sounds like a great story. Literally "the first draft of history".
  19. If anyone wants to feel nauseous or feverish today, there are glimpses of Ian Branfoot on BBC1 right now as part of the coaching team for Palace versus Liverpool in the 1990 FA Cup semi final.

  21. https://www.politicshome.com/news/article/labour-staff-no-longer-confident-partys-general-secretary-as-their-safety-as-her-top-priority-after-leaking-of-antisemitism-report Nice to see the actual workers in the Labour Party striking out at the despicable behaviour of the abhorrent Jennie Formby. Her and Uncle Len (with Seamus and Communist Andrew Murray) thought they had the party sewn up in their image but thankfully the membership had other ideas, and it's fantastic that the workers are now fighting back too.

We're only a few weeks away from it going full-on Poppy-mas levels of "look how much I care" one upmanship across the nation. We've painted our entire house like a rainbow etc etc. I don't get why it needs to be every week, especially as it feels like every week it is escalating (various reports of fireworks being set off as well as the images of it becoming like a mini street party in some places). The NHS want the correct equipment and, when thIs is over maybe a bloody pay rise. I am sure people mean well but the clapping is making a virtue of and distracting from the low pay and a decade of chronic under funding in the sector.

Just about to post the same thing. Hasn't taken long for the whole clapping thing to get out of control.
  24. I think there are other slightly more important news stories happening in the UK right this minute, champ. But we know you love being in a cult so good for you.
