In the TalkSport interview the Italian said he knew little about football and recruited Pardew because he was an available good candidate - he had no particular vision at point.
Therefore it is pretty easy to surmise that the signing of top drawer lower league proven performers - Lambert, Fonte, Hammond - was jack sh it to do with an Italian lawyer. His football "vision" came later. I wonder, really really wonder, who was the single biggest influence on that....?
