  1. Basically Eddie Howe does not fit the job spec. as far as I'm concerned. No European experience, no experience at the higher end of the top flights of European domestic football, no track record across multiple clubs. This is out best ever chance to appoint a genuine blue-chip manager. Don't throw it away Saints, don't throw it away.
  2. Yesterday's final two shortlist for Bolton job across all media including the BBC: Clotteril and Adkins. Moral of the story: shortlist schmortlist.
  3. No. It's a lovely myth that gets peddled out but at the time the Chancellor of the Exchequer and by extension the treasury were never convinced, therefore the government weren't convinced and it was never proposed to the country or to parliament.
  4. Great story.
  5. Bruce Arena?
  6. I'm writing him off now. Terrible.
  7. Such lovely hair.
  8. It's not really dragging on - he'll come back from holiday all ready to do the scarf over the head photograph and press conference at Goodison.
  9. I'm crossing to the dark side if we appoint him.
  10. No it was Rudi. Prompted me to Wikipedia him and then formally approve his appointment as Southampton manager.
  11. Please not Howe. Surprised to hear AVB and RDB are way down the list behind Howe and Pelligrini, they seem much more natural fits than those two. There's not going to be an appointment for at least a fortnight is there?
  12. The asset stripping begins.
  13. Like the home kit a lot (except I'd have white socks with red trim). Nice one.
  14. Not sure we know for sure do we? If RK was already on £2.5m then £3m would be what I'd expect was the ballpark for his extension and any replacement. The most interesting thing about that article is the what Lazio can offer - shows the power of the new TV deal for middling English clubs vs Italian and Spanish equivalents.
  15. I'm convinced Leave will win. If it rains everywhere on the day, they will definitely win.
  16. I believe he could link up very well with Matt Piper.
  17. The same sponsor as Sheffield Wednesday was quite frankly unforgivable.
  18. Unspectacular but would be a fine appointment - as cast iron a guarantee against relegation as you could get as a minimum (ie someone like De Boer could crash and burn) and would lead us comfortably into mid table or better - he has delivered top six-ish consistently. Perfect for a management redemption story. I wouldn't complain if we did appoint him - especially if it was between him or Eddie Howe.
  19. "Saints" has too broad a term, like Spurs. It means the club, the players, the fans, a brand. It's simultaneously singular and plural and nothing actually belongs to it. Southampton's new manager: fine. Tottenham Hotspur's new manager: fine. Saints' / Spurs' / Saints's / Spurs's new manager: weird.
  20. Debatable whether one is needed, especially as Saints' and Saints's new manager is needlessly awkward. "New Manager" is fine - I think we can safely assume which football club we are talking about on this forum.
  21. If we leave the EU Cameron and all his rich buddies will continue to get richer.
  22. You're saying that like you are surprised - Leicester were 5,000-1 shots for a reason. It's probably 30 years away from happening again.
  23. Please can we keep to the standard forum football transfer measurement of Shlongs.
