I'm thinking of starting a thread called "CB Fry makes snap judgements on European football managers based entirely on a 15 second skim of their Wikipedia page and how their hair looks on Google images".

Good candidates all I think. I wasn't really aware of Rudi Garcia as I don't follow much European football but he is Crab Lungs preferred candidate so I looked him up: record looks excellent and another good fit. Also available. Advantage over De Boer that he managed multiple clubs in more than one country. Rapidly going off the idea of FDB with so many other available options out there.

"The media" don't hate him. He will be Southampton manager, "the media" will barely give him a thought. If he's top six with us come Christmas then it's a beautiful little story. If he's bottom six it's just another struggling club story. That's about it.

Not really - he was never going to be allowed just to run his contract down, and if we had done that you'd have been the first to moan, probably for an entire season. When people, and plenty do, say about players and managers 'why didn't we tie him down earlier' - well this is what that can look like. That said, no one is forcing him to sign for Everton - he had a contract on the table from us.

I agree with this - being popular with all the players all the time is not particularly important. In fact if a manager is generally popular then it's likely he is a pushover and will fail. Bit of a red herring really. Some players will hate the new guy too.

More points than Poch got. His availability - he's a free agent - as much as his track record means he is a compelling candidate. Although you can see him here, can't you? One of the main reasons I really don't want Howe is because of this very thing. SFC will be the best job Eddie Howe will ever get. He ain't stepping stoning nowhere. I want our next manager to use us a stepping stone to a bigger club - because that means he'll be bloody good and if he ends up at a bigger club for loads more money it means he's done a brilliant job.
